Shepolopolo captain Emeldah Musonda says Zambia is determined to qualify for the 2016 African Women Championship to be hosted by Cameroon later this year.

The Zambia Women National Team on Sunday launched their qualifying campaign with an emphatic 3-1 win over Namibia in the first leg match of the first round played at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

Coach Albert Kachinga’s women are seeking only their second appearance at the African Women Championship.

In an interview, Musonda said it was gratifying that Zambia kicked off the qualifying campaign with a win.

“The win against Namibia was sweet but it is now water under the bridge. We are focusing on the return match and the second round,” she said.

“We are going to Cameroon. We are not just focusing on the first round,” Musonda said.

The Brave Gladiators host Zambia in the 18th March return leg in Windhoek.
