Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) President Dr. Nevers Sekwila Mumba says leaders of political parties need to show strong leadership within their parties to stop the ugly scourge of violence which seems to be rearing its ugly head time and again in the politics of Zambia.

Dr. Mumba said this as he paid an emergency courtesy visit to youths from the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) who had just come out of a violent clash with fellow youths from the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) during the Youth day celebrations which took place at Heroes’ Stadium yesterday.

Speaking to journalists at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka yesterday, Dr Mumba said there was no place for violence in a democratic society and that since his days as a young man, he has believed and taught that young people should never reach a point where they felt that the only way to express their differences in political opinion was using stones, machetes (pangas) and guns.

He said the New MMD stands against Stone Age politics of thuggery and violence which should be replaced with issue-based modern Politics of the 21st Century.

“As a Christian Nation, we condemn in the strongest of terms this culture of hatred and violence which is fast becoming part of Zambian politics and I wish to remind all of us here that behind that PF, or MMD or UPND regalia, is a Zambian youth”, he said.

    • PF has been working with police to brutalize UPND cadres – thats the modus operandi in Zambia at the moment.

Its not possible to fight back when then whole president, together with heavily armed police and cadres team up to beat and undress cadres. How do you fight back with? a small stick against bullets and tear gas..? You can only fight back through the ballot baba…the majority Zambians are silent but know what to do on August 11.

    • Ba Mumba, you make this statement when you are talking about another coutry. But this is happening in the supposedly Christian Nation. “As a Christian Nation, we condemn in the strongest of terms this culture of hatred and violence which is fast becoming part of Zambian politics…”

I think the Chiluba declaration wass as fake as Lungu’s National Day of Prayer. This mockery of god must stop! Zambia cannot be a Christian Nation. It does not meet the preconditions.

    • Does it mean pf thugs have forged a merger with police, the video on watch dog for thugs who stripped naked that upnd lady, their voices are so audible they were saying teyeni tubombe naba polisi. Work with police in what way? To beat up and strip ladies naked?

    • please be sincere, NO THERE WAS NO PF CASULTIES BECAUSE THE UPND WENT THERE AS YOUTHS OF THEIR PARTY AND GOT ATTACKED BY YOUR PARTY THE PF. GET IT?

  1. Why are we scared to tell the perpetrator of this violence directly.
Pres. EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU H.E. cage your cadres. The buck stops at you. Stop this violence before it consumes you. Your language is what is spurring this violence on. Arresting GBM won’t stop the violence. Disown Bwalya, Kamba, Kamanga, Lusambo & all the thugs leading these young people to commit violence.

  2. @imbecile patriot abroad, you don’t get it do you? It was the PF thugs that has been attacking other innocent youths around the country. They went on a rampage like mad dogs stripping women naked and burning other people’s clothes. This PF does not have any normal thinking. The leader himself is suffering from dementia.

  3. Seriously UPND need to start training it’s youths in defensive tactics, no matter how illegal they will be , we are dealing with neanderthals here. Pf chaps are neanderthals.

  4. The way Nevers Mumba speaks leaves much to be desired – he condemns the violence and not the violators as if violence happened on its own – why not Condemn Lungu and his PF thugs straight – Ba Pastor people expect you to bring the face of Jesus into politics and not this sebana wikute politics.

    • BWALYA? MY SENTIMENTS EXACTLY. BUT YOU SEE NEVAS MUMBA IS IN ALLIANCE WITH PF AND HE CAN SEE ALL THIS, HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE A PASTOR PREACHING PEACE AND UNITY BUT HE CANNOT BITE THE HAND OF THE PF BECAUSE HE HAS GIVEN HIS LOYALTY TO THEM.

  5. PF govt’s conduct is more worse than the colonial govt, even apartheid was better in SA! PF must know that the violence they are perpetrating will backfire on them after 11th August this year!

  6. Patriot abroad, violence is violence be it black or white. Worst still if you are black and being treated by your fellow black in this way because you support an opposing factor; can t you write anything sensible?

  7. Now you see Donald Trump is now copying Zambian politics. Lampooning rivals, teasing ethnic groups, threatening religious freedoms – the works! If we can step back from this non.sense perhaps we can help the American politicians carry out a clean campaign, too!!

  8. @Kubweka
Exactly my man! What this PF govt is doing is, clearly demonstrating that, we Africans can not think beyond the length of our nose though some white thought we cant beyond as long as a year, that was, kind, we cant think beyond a month and the PF govt is a living example! You cant boast of superior power when you only have 5 bullets in your house against 10 people standing around your house!

  9. @Patriot Abroad
Sorry Kubweka I meant @Patriot Abroad
