Frank Bwalya accuse the opposition of planning confusion at Government functions

THE Patriotic Front (PF) has appealed to the police to thoroughly investigate information that a named opposition political party wants to organise its members to cause confusion and incite violence at State functions.

And the PF has unearthed a scam in which an opposition political party is buying mealie-meal and other essential commodities in bulk to create an artificial shortage in the hope that people will rise against Government and President Lungu.

PF deputy spokesperson Frank Bwalya said in an interview here on Monday that the ruling party has information that the named opposition political party will be causing confusion on public holidays such as Youth Day, Labour Day and other days when Government is holding State functions.

“We want the police to investigate this case thoroughly. We believe this is also related to what happened on Youth Day in Lusaka,” Mr Bwalya said.

United Party for National Development and PF cadres clashed during Youth Day commemoration on Saturday.

He also urged the police to investigate people behind the manufacturing of pictures circulating online of injured people.

“Not all of them are false but most of them are, especially those that look really bad. We know that they are being manufactured by a named opposition political party, this is alarming the country,” Mr Bwalya said.

He said the PF is aware of political violence recorded in the recent past but would not want the public to be misled by false pictures.

He said the country cannot develop if there is political instability.

“All Zambians must ensure that they maintain the peace which the country enjoys. In the absence of stability, we cannot develop and the President has reiterated this point,” Mr Bwalya said

And Mr Bwalya said he is aware that a named opposition political party is trying to make the country ungovernable by using all kinds of political gimmicks.

“We are aware that they are buying mealie-meal and other essential commodities in bulk to create an artificial shortage in the hope that people will rise against Government and President Lungu,” he said.

And PF national youth chairperson Stephen Kampyongo urged PF youths to restrain themselves from engaging in violence even when provoked.

Mr Kampyongo said what happened on Youth Day is regrettable as it was a day meant to give the youth a platform but was turned into a violent occasion.

“Whilst we know that there is an opposition leader who has openly declared that he will come for them, they should not fall into his trap. We know him because he was among us,” he said.

  56. By the way talking of shortages it’s reported in the DRC that the price of maize meal in Lubumbashi has doubled from 9,000 francs ($10) to 20,000 francs ($20) in the past few months. The reasons are unclear, although the local authorities reckon it’s because traders are hoarding the commodity and not an export ban in Zambia.
