Kambwili tells Luanshya Mine to up Roan sponsorship

Share

Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili says he will engage China Luanshya Copper Mines (CLM) on the need to increase their funding to Roan United Football Club.

CLM currently gives Division One North side “Stylish” Roan a $10,000 monthly grant.

But Kambwili said the $10,000 monthly grant is failing to sustain the Luanshya outfit.

“The grant is not enough to look at the welfare of players, pay their salaries, rent their houses and fulfil fixtures. We need to engage mine owners so they up the monthly grant to Roan United,” Kambwili said.

“Football has become expensive to run. If you can’t look after players well, pay good salaries, it is impossible to attract good players. Roan can even rot in Division One,” he said.

Roan finished fifth in the 2015 FAZ Division One North campaign with 55 points from 34 matches.

“My appeal to CLM is that help Roan United. This is a big club that has been there since the beginning of organised league football in Zambia. It will be very bad for Roan to continue wallowing in Division One,” he said.

Roan last tested Super Division football in 2014.

    • COME ON YOU GUYS. FOOTBALL IS FAZ’S BABY AND NOT A BUSINESS. THAT’S WHY YOU ARE EVEN CALLING IT A GRANT. THEY ARE NOT OBLIGED TO GIVE THEM THOSE GRANTS. FAZ WITH GOVERNMENT IS SUPPOSED TO BE BUILDING STATE-OF-THE-ART STADIUMS FOR THE CLUBS ALLOVER ZAMBIA AND NOT ONLY IN LUSAKA AND NDOLA. THIS IS PART OF YOUTH DEVELOPMENT.

    • I MEAN THESE STADIUMS SHOULD BE MAKING MONEY TO PAY THE THE PLAYERS AND OTHER SUPPORTIVE WORKERS AS WELL AS PAY FOR MAINTENANCE AND OTHER UTILITY SERVICES. IT IS JUST GOOD GESTURE AND CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY THAT THE MINE COMPANY EXTEND TO A FOOTBALL CLUB. PRETTY SURE THE MINE COMPANY ALSO DOES OTHER COMMUNITY THINGS SUCH AS BUILD SCHOOLS. FAZ MUST BE PAYING ALL THE CLUB PLAYERS AS THEY PAY SUBSCRIPTION FEES AND OTHERS.

    • Chimbwili, ni Luanshya Mine ya anyoko? This mine has just closed its Baluba Mine due to losses being made. Which part of “there’s no money” don’t you understand? Or should I write that in Bemba, you dimwit Silverback!

    • The football associations don’t sponsor clubs all over the world. Their concern is only the national team. They can help subsidise costs if they are wealthy enough

  1. if Abramovich was doing the same to Chelsea he would have gone bankrupt…clubs pay themselves thru gate takings….adverts …kit sponsors etc

    • Yes but that needs organisation and guidance of FAZ, the footballing mother body. But all FAZ do is print up fixtures and empty their coffers paying them selves.

    • The Buffoon is complain about handouts ….really laughable instead of encouraging them to be self sufficient like advertising, partnerships, business investments…he only knows loans which he will never pay back.

    • Abramovich does the same to Chelsea but he owns the club. Gate takings are his because he runs the business. I don’t know who owns Roan United

  2. In these tough economic times, is this guy for real? Let them win some silverware and get additional sponsorship(s).

  3. That is why some Zambians will never be independent. We expect hand outs. Here is Kambwili complaining about a grant and asking for more. Is it a company’s responsibility to maintain a football team? Does this football team belong to CLM? Kambwili needs to understand what a grant entails. The election is fast approaching so Kambwili is working as an MP. Laughable indeed!

  4. Comment:The responsibility of FAZ is to sponsor National teams & not clubs. The minister can also contribute something towards the welfare of the club because he owns companies in Luanshya, For example he can help with transport for the club to fulfill it’s fixtures. Other tycons can also help with camping the players & providing food. We should avoid waiting for these mines to do everything for the clubs. They ‘ve other responsibilities also & not just soccer.
