The Forum Democracy and Development says it is immoral and callous for Republican President Edgar Lungu to increase his salary when his Government has refused effect an upward adjustment for public service workers.

FDD Spokesperson Antonio Mwanza said there is no justification for President Lungu to increase his salary as everything he uses is paid for by tax payers

He accused President Lungu of being selfish and that the motive for increasing his salary was because he was preparing for a fat retirement package as he knows that he is entitled to 80% of his salary when he retires.

“It is immoral and callous for President Edgar Lungu to increase his salary when his Government has refused to effect an upward salary adjustment for public service workers despite the rising cost of living, the depreciation of the Kwacha and high inflation rates.

“There is absolutely no justifiable reason for Mr Lungu to increase his salary because everything that the President uses, from a handkerchief to Jameson is fully paid for by us the taxpayers. There is no expense that the President bores, as every good and service for him and his next of kin is fully paid for by the Zambian people.

“The only motivation behind this very insensitive increment is greed. Mr Lungu has a selfish bambazonke attitude towards national issues. He wants everything for himself and nothing for others. He is preparing a fat retirement package for himself because he knows that he will be entitled to 80% of this salary once he is out of office,” he said.

He added “We strongly beseech the President to listen to his conscience, that is if he has any and immediately annul this immoral increment. He should instead allocate that excess money to other needy areas such as education where primary schools get a paltry ZMW1500 per year as allocation for operations.

“The President has to realise that we hold public office not for self aggrandisement but for public service. We are in politics not to enrich ourselves but to enrich the lives of millions of Zambians in whose trust we preside over the affairs of the State. Those in public office are stewards who should administer public affairs with love, honesty, prudence and personal sacrifice. Let us stop this callous and immoral culture of using power for personal gain.”

  1. …everything from a handkerchief to Jameson… My sides ache. Hopefully ED won’t chase you down next April as it takes him a while to process criticism and conclude it is defamation…

ED should be tightening his belt before asking the nation to do the same.

    • That is the trouble with voting in for a penniless individual such as Lungu, to him its a chance to make money-get rich fast while still in the mix of corridors of power!

HH has already got the money, all he wants is to serve the people and not getting a fat salary from the already empty confers while at the helm.

He says he will donate his presidential salary to charity and yet you still go ahead and vote for an hungry man from Chawama- just, what’s wrong with us Zambians?

  2. ………….. in a maize field is without any morals on distraction because it believes more is available any way. ‘Kulungula nakube’.

  3. Why increase the president’s salary when civil servants had a 2 years wage freeze. Most of their allowances were scrapped off and so are the CBU and UNZA students ‘ meal allowances. Moreover, the president does not buy food for himself, neither does he meet his medical bills. Tax payers do. Any way 11 th August is the only solution for Zambia. We need to remove those who seek office in order to enrich themselves. W need to put in a president who is seeking office in order to serve and not self aggrandizement We need to put in a President and Vice who is already rich. One who , instead of increasing his salary, will sacrifice to reduce it. I cant wait for 11 th August.

  4. So what is the big deal about the President receiving a salary of K47,000 which not been revised since 2013? We the people who put Edgar there in state house, his employers, have decided and we don’t owe you UPND cadres an apology so shut up.
I am certain that when HH comes to power in 2031 he will pay himself Usd47,000 per month, on top of what he swindled government during privatization.

  5. @Wise Head, if you were wise, you would have realized that the president is paid for by everyone not just PF cadres. He is a republican president that is paid through tax from all Zambians including UPND and FDD cadres. If he were paid by PF funds, no one would complain. He is being selfish.

  6. The bid deal is what Hungry Hyena got after giving away our resources to foreigners for free and then BOOM ! Became the richest man in Zambia.
He has to pay back all what he dubiously got
    From Liquidating our Mines

  7. Moba uli khuti, ife tifuna tunwe maningi Jameson bear, khodi simuziwa ndine musogoleli wa dziko ?
