Suspended MMD National Spokesperson Raphael Nakacinda has described as nonsense and ridiculous the olive branch extended to expelled and suspended members by party President.

And Mr Nakacinda says the PF will only sit down with Nevers Mumba to negotiate an alliance with MMD if they are jokers.

Meanwhile MMD National Youth Chairperson Howard Kunda said the forefathers who formed the party must be turning in their graves at what is happening in the MMD.

Speaking when the duo featured on the Hot Seat radio program on Thursday Mr Nakacinda said MMD was not a “ka small kantemba nor Dr Mumba’s house that he should be demanding that people pledge loyalty to him.

He said there was no where in the party constitution were members should sign covenants with an individual if they want to go back to their own party.

He explained that MMD was bigger than individuals and that it was an insult to the people who formed the party that the President of the party wants to personalize the party as if it was his personal company when it was an institution with guidelines and rules.

He said Dr Mumba should not be standing on an ante hill calling for reconciliation and demanding for people to be signing covenants when he is the one who had expelled and suspended everyone.

He said as a matter of principle and dictates of the party constitution they supported the candidature of Dr Mumba when they could have supported former Republican President Rupiah Banda for political expedience in 2015 presidential election and that they will not turn around today and abrogate the same constitution they defended a few months.

He said the party constitution demands that the party goes to a convention every 5 years and that the issue is non negotiable.

On the talks of an alliance with the PF, Mr Nakacinda said if the PF are jokers then they will sit down with Nevers Mumba to discuss an alliance with the MMD because the leadership has lost credibility in the eyes of the general membership.

He said agreeing an alliance with Dr Mumba will be detrimental to any party because which ever party agrees an alliance with the current leadership, the membership will go the opposite.

Meanwhile Howard Kunda said the forefathers of the party including his father invested a lot in the MMD for an individual to try and destroy all the efforts due to personal interests.

He said his father as founder member of the former ruling party continued to stand and talk on behalf of the party even when he was sick because he knew how important the survival of the party was to the nation.

He said it was painful to watch individuals try to destroy something they never suffered for and that MMD should survive beyond 2016 election.

He said President Mumba should not just be thinking about himself while tearing the party apart but that he should think about the young people in the party and the country.

He said as a member of the MMD he has the right to stand for any position in the party and that it can only be done when the party goes to a convention to elect new leaders something he said Nevers Mumba was trying to deny him and many others.

On Wednesday MMD President Neves Mumba extended what he described as an olive branch to suspended and expelled members who were willing to get back to the party on condition they sign a covenant pledging royalty to the party.

And some of the callers who participated on the program said it was important that MMD survives its current challenges and that it will only survive if the leadership followed their constitution.

One of the callers a Mr Mwape said the MMD was the only party in the country which practices intra-party democracy by choosing its leaders at conventions and that party President Nevers Mumba should not destroy those virtues by abrogating the constitution of the party.

  1. Any well meaning Zambian shud support the ousting of this charlatan vNevers Mumba. He is no politician who can turn the fortunes of MMD around. In any multiparty state,a strong opposition is needed for proper checks and balances. And a leader loses his legitimacy even though backed by legal statutes when the masses he is supposed to lead revolt against his rule. This is the position of Mumba. In other countries, they subject their leaders to a vote of no confidence. He shud face that test through calling a convention! Chapwa and secure or lose his leadership

  2. And I quote……”On the talks of an alliance with the PF, Mr Nakacinda said if the PF are jokers then they will sit down with Nevers Mumba to discuss an alliance with the MMD…….” Honestly Mr Nakacinda you still doubt that PF is a party of Jokers who will never be serious at all especially were governance issues are concerned

  3. This is a sticky situation we have goin’ on here. Guess what? We don’t care any more! MMD Loser party eating itself inside out. Too many ambitious nuts challenging party authority.
