Higher Education Minister Michael Kaingu
Higher Education Minister, Micheal Kaingu has advised United Party for National Development (UPND) president, Hakainde Hichilema not to politicise what was happening at the two highest learning institutions because there were administrative bodies in charge.

This follows Mr Hichilema’s 30 day ultimutum given to Government in which to lift the suspension of students who were protest ringleaders at the University of Zambia (UNZA) and the Copperbelt University (CBU), leading to the closure of the institutions.

Dr Kaingu said Government had nothing to do with decisions made at the two institutions and called on Mr Hichilema to base his political campaigns on something else.

“I would like to advise Mr Hichilema to stop issuing statements on UNZA and CBU and making threats to the Government because it does not interfere with the institutions, they have managements that make decisions on how they are run”, Dr Kaingu said.

Mr Hichilema said if Government failed to lift the suspensions, he would reinstate the students after August elections.

“I am giving the Patriotic Front (PF) Government a 30-day ultimatum in which to lift the suspension of UNZA and CBU students failure to which I will call on the students to boycott class for three months until August when I become president and reinstate the suspended students”, Mr Hichilema said.

Mr Hichilema said the students had done nothing wrong in demanding their meal allowances and that Government should not suspend any student.

  1. THANK YOU HH FOR BRINGING ATTENTION TO THIS INJUSTICE. THESE STUDENTS ARE BEING VICTIMIZED WITHOUT DUE PROCESS. THIS SHOULD SERVE AS A WARNING TO ALL UNZA AND CBU STUDENTS AND FACULTY. THE ONLY WAY TO GET KAINGU OUT AND CONTINUE NORMAL OPERATIONS AT THE TWO INSTITUTIONS IS TO VOTE PF OUT.
    UNO MWAKA VOTE WISE.

    • Kikikikikikiki, yaba! Ati “I will call on the students to boycott class for three months until August when I become president and reinstate the suspended students”………really? Will the students listen from you? Wishful thinking……..pwa ha ha ha ha. I guess HH is feeling guilty over the impending dismissal of students he sponsored to undertake violence at the two institutions. On thís one, I am 100% with government, expel all students who were identified as ring leaders in the riots that rocked the two institutions.

    • THE RING LEADERS MUST BE DISMISSED TO DETER OTHER WOULD-BE PROTESTERS, ESPECIALLY ON PROTESTS WHICH ARE VIOLENT AND WITHOUT HAVING EXHAUSTED ALL CHANNELS OF COMMUNICATIONS AND NEGOTIATIONS. UNIVERSITY STUDENTS SHOULD SHOW INTELLIGENCE AT LEAST, IF THEY CAN’T SHOW WISDOM. NATIONS LOOK TO UNIVERSITY STUDENTS AND GRADUATES FOR WELL INFORMED INTELLECTUAL AND WISE RESEARCH AND FINAL DECISION MAKING. BUT IN THE CASE OF OUR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS- I AM AFRAID THEY DON’T EXHIBIT SUCH QUALITIES. THEY ARE JUST BRIBED AND INCITED EXTERNALLY.

    • HH, you are a drunken dreamer…”When you become president?” Which country?…Not the Zambia that I know! Keep dreaming….and snoring…

  2. HH is really a desperate lost soul. It is unfortunate that the insatiable appetite for power can reach such unfortunate levels. That anarchy we saw, where for the first time in the history of our country students disarmed a security officer, is considered “nothing wrong” in the eyes of HH? Really?

    • Indeed, HH is desperate. This is a man who was at UNZA during Kaunda’s reign. In case he has forgotten, let him be reminded that during Kaunda’s times all students who were involved in riots used to get expelled. Some would come back after five years, but others would not. I remember UNZASU President Chilufya who got expelled and later died of depression.

  3. Kaingu lying as always, everything happening at CBU & UNZA has political fingerprints on them. The meal allowances, the delayed salaries, the land between East Park mall & UNZA which has been sold to an investor, all that has political fingerprints.

  4. BO KAINGU THAT UNZA LAND YOU HAVE SOLD TO BOGUS INVESTORS WILL BE GRABBED. RIGHT NOW YOU THINK YOUR CLEAVER, INSTEAD OF BUILDING MORE HOSTELS YOU SELL THE LAND FORGETINGABOUT YOUR GARNDCHILDREN TO COME. WE SHALL GET IT BACK MARK MY WORDS

    • Yaba ba WATCH. Eastpark mall belongs to HH as major shareholder. So though upnd will not win, i would hv loved to see how u wud hv grabbed that land.
      kkk
Suspend the students. Lets see if the remaining students will listen to HH and boycott classes. He thinks he has some power. Show him Kaingu Ph.D

    • He lost his lodge to a fire now he wants to make up on his loss on his balance sheet by hook or by crook….and his boss who he has no political loyalty to is sitting in State House drinking spirits.

  5. Simple, suspend the criminals, let the 30days pass then arrest HH for inciting civil disobedience in the country.

  6. I feel sad for HH, the waters he is walking on and the poli tics he is playing should have ended with PF, he needed to focus on encouraging the youths to be self innovative and not wait for government. The dependence Syndrome he is promoting will have him overthrown by the same youths he is inciting. One must be blind not to see the rising levels of desperation and that’s a danger for anyone

  7. Hon. Kaingu,

By any chance, are you aware of certain legal principles called “Rules of Natural Justice”?
Please, anything you do as the Minister must be, and it is “political act”, therefore, what the heck you are ranting about?
Universities are not your (Mr. Kaingu) private property where you can do as it pleases you. You did it as the Minister and therfefore it is “political act”which merits “political response”.

  8. If I were a student I wouldn’t listen to hh. Who apart from a Tonga in his right frame of mind can vote for hh. People don’t be cheated that hh can be president. This cretin doesn’t have what it takes to lead a nation. Just listen to his rantings. How can a lead incite violence in a nation. This is $tupidity of the highest order.

  9. How can you not Politicize a Political decision….who closed UNZA and CBU? Why were students protesting? Who pays them allowances? Who U-turned on the issue of allowances? Whose decision is it to announce the opening of these selfsame universities? Really laughable that such caliber of leadership is in charge of such a ministry the oversees higher education.

  10. So HH does not care about the public whose properties were damaged by these salvages in the name of students!

  11. Let us realise that the public properties the student damages belongs to the people who are the tax payers, the same meal allowance the want we contribute. They should find a way of handling their issues. HH will still come and face these students if he think they will spare him.

    • Ba Zed, the solution is simple and one to do with governance; so long as our institutions are not empowered this will forever be the case. Why should the ministry be responsible for paying allowances? Why don’t the leave all this to quasi government institution or trust? The reason is simple and has always been this UNIP: the ruling party use all these incentives as leverage against these educated youth. Why dont you see the same protests in other countries?

  12. @Akamunofu, if gvt had paid the allowances, were you going to talk about those damages? Prevention is better than cure. Kaingu is thick headed. All suspension must be lifted immediately. Even yourself at one point in life you had reacted when your meal on your table was saved late. Education in this case is cardinal.

  13. Am so surprised that such a highly academically endowed individual can have such flaws in his reasoning. Or is it that when a person becomes a politician, he stops reasoning. Better is expected of you, Mr. Kaingu.

  14. The Students at UNZA and CBU should not listen to HH because all his Children are abroad learning in various Universities…but now he wants to delay other people’s children to complete their education because of greedy and wanting to impose himself on the Zambian people who have rejected him several times…Why of sudden is he interested in UNZA and CBU, only danderheads will fail to see that the Supreme Leader HH of the UPND is the one who sponsored those riots by some students…

  15. we have bn telling about yo hh can u plz open yo eyes b4 u put this country on fire! u have bn telling u to hold a convertion bt u refused and u a likely to put our coutry on fire. plz God help us not to b ruled by selfish pipo with satanic motives

  16. If students feel it is their right to receive meal allowances from government, they are wrong. These allowances must be considered as privileges, because these allowances are supposed to help the needy students, who cannot afford the cost of education at the universities. In countries like USA, students pay for their education, and that is one reason there are no such riots! Those who show discipline and commitment to hardworking could get loans and small bursaries, but not the government to pay for their meals, board and tuition. The US Federal government sometimes subsidize all private and state colleges that agree to implement Affirmative Action in employment to allow the students work for the college on part-time jobs to at least raise a few dollars to pay for their tuition.

    What…

    • Come on. Look for more information about education funding the USA. While students pay for their studies in the USA, some students are assisted in various ways. Different states in the USA provide various types of scholarships to deserving students and those who maintain a certain GPA. For instance, in Georgia they have HOPE scholarships. The Federal Government also awards PELL grants to students whose parents fall within a certain income bracket to cover tuition and fees.

    • A privilege transforms into a right once you meet the criteria of the privilege. So, please don’t waste your energy on non issues!

  17. What is the difference between those arrested rioting suspects in xenophobic violence, ritual killers and ring leaders for learning institutions and their followers? Are others criminals and the rest saints when they all involve loss of lives, blood shed, loss of property, panic to society, negative image of the nation?

  18. Do u think HH will end the behaviour of the students,he is actually promoting bad behavior. He thinks is the one to solve zambian problems is just power angry.

  19. Hard Headed …..Playing smart BUT not being Clever. Hard Headed you will rot in your WICKED SINS. You are EXTREMELY DULL. You have NOTHING to offer to Zambia, just concentrate on your few coins and katemba.

  20. What is Hard Headed up now …..Playing smart BUT not being Clever. Hard Headed you will rot in your WICKED SINS. You are EXTREMELY DULL. You have NOTHING to offer to Zambia, just concentrate on your few coins and katemba.
