United Party for National Development (UPND) has issued a statement categorically stating that their Presidential Candidate Mr Hakainde Hichilema does not own Saturnia Regna Pension Fund, which is at the centre of former BP workers Pretest.

Yesterday 236 former BP workers had given UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema a 7 days ultimatum to pay back the 457-million kwacha owed to them by Saturnia Regna Pension Trust where he is a shareholder.

The former BP workers threatened to take their families to camp at Mr Hichilema’s residence if they are not paid within seven days.

Response to Pension Fund Accusations

We can categorically state that Mr. Hakainde Hichiliema does not own, nor is he a trustee of, Saturnia Regna Pension Fund, as has been reported by various media outlets including ZNBC, the Daily Mail and the Daily Nation.

He has nothing to do with the fund and we find it offensive that individuals appear to be exploiting this case for political advantage in a desperate attempt to divert attention away from the PF’s poor track record in office.

Furthermore, we understand that the trustees of the fund itself will be issuing a statement in due course to clarify their own position.

The public media that reported this story without checking their facts must remember it is their duty to be non-partisan in their reporting.

We are saddened that our opponents would rather talk rumour and gossip than policies and plans and suggest that the PF returns its focus to the billions of kwacha government currently owes unpaid Zambian pensioners as a matter of urgency.

    • If HH had nothing to do with Saturnia Regna Pension Fund and these media reports were false with the intension to smear him, his lawyers would have been running to the courts to sue.
      This statement from the Secretary General is not convincing. More over HH loves press statements, he would have written a 10 paragraph detailed statement categorically denying involvement in any of this.
      You can defend HH all you want, but this man is capable of such.

It is managed by African Life Financial Services and administered by Benefits Consulting Limited.

      The Directors are: Neo Bogatsu, Nyangu Kayamba, Jay Karunaratne, Bryson Hamanzuka

      Senior Staff:

      These can be verified at PACRA.
      No where in this Company Profile does it mention HH as a shareholder, Director or Trustee. So who is misleading these poor souls as former…

    • PF desperation knows no bounds! If the ex-BP workers are stoopid enough to fall into this political trap, then they will never be paid by BP and Puma. The manager just manages the resources that the employer has paid over. In this case the courts have clarified the entitlements of the employees that the employer should have funded. It is now for BP and/or Puma to pay over the additional money to Saturnia Regna who will then pay out to the former employees. And HH is not even the fund manager nor majority shareholder of any of the companies involved.

    • Saturnia Regna and its sister company Africa Life Assurance companies are owned by South African financial group in partnership with Valentine Chilatu, Muna Hantuba and HH (through chain-holding mechanism) and HH is a director on Africa Life. He is responsible for the actions of management and shareholders which he as a director is aware of and condones. PERIOD!
      Sugar-coating and taking refuge behind corporate veil is not going to laundered him. Can he answer how did he morally buy LIMA bank’s house worth over 1 million dollars for under K200,000, when his accounting firm was appointed receiver under him? How did he get chairmanship and shares in Zambezi Sun, Livingstone after chairing and recommending the sale of prime land on Zambezi river, falls front to Sun group?

    • Musakanya the house belonged to Tobacco Board of Zambia. HH bought it after it was advertised. Lima Bank never owned the house.

    • Misapplied Euro bond. Only those who are directly benefiting from the loot of national resources are busy supporting the Proud Failures (PF). We gave them 5 years to improve our economy instead they have spoiled it beyond the level MMD left it, though some MMD guys are supporting them, anyway personal gain at play in such matters and not principle.   13. Pension matters are handled by the Trustees,Management,Board of Directors and the Registrar of Pensions. Lungu and RB are worried about the popularity of HH and UPND. They are worried that their rigging tactics may not give them the winning numbers. Lungu has no message to the voters that is why PF has failed to produce a Manifesto. They are now concetrating on rigging and frustrating HH and UPND campaign movements. By so doing Lungu and PF are actually campaigning for the opposition. The pensions problems are associated with the failure by ZSIC to fully surrender the Fund with associated bonuses to the new managers. Saturnia can only account for remittances post 1995 and not before. They have just decided not to embarrass ZSIC publicly. Now that PF has taken this root, wait and see when Saturnia issues the statement. It will involve many other companies that were once managed by ZSIC. Where does this leave government? Thank God he allows f.ools to first get mad.

    • @Silent Spectator- Shareholder have the veil of incorporation and their names may not appear. HH is a shareholder of Aflife and indeed there is a squabble over those pensions from BP. Be objective in your research. The people you have mentioned are employees except for Munakupya Hantuba who is a co- shareholder along with HH.

  32. Who controls Saturnia?A board of trustees is responsible for running of the Fund. Because these Trustees are not full time employees of the Fund, they have delegated their functionsto Benefits Consulting Services Ltd who are the current Fund Administrators.

  33. UPND, you are only making the situation worse by lying and trying to twist information. You are only listing people in management for African Life as set on the website. But these people work for the shareholders. The latest PACRA records show that the UPND president with NRC No. 128873/72/1 is both shareholder and director in African Life which owns Saturnia Regna. Unless you change this information at PACRA tomorow it is available to the Public. Why do you have to lie.

      At this stage it is for Mr. Hichilema to deny the allegation by suing the concerned media & PACRA as second defendants or PACRA to disown their records as scam on the link above, but both parties have kept quiet since last year, until today when instead UPND have commented. Only courts of law can prove him innocent beyond reasonable doubt but not mere statement of denial like one above from UPND or party cadres denying & fighting what is on public record up to the last insult, panga (sword).

    • Iwe, your kadansa (HH) has been stonewalling for over a decade now. Remember this case started years before PF was even formed. These people (pensioners) have won cases, both in the High and Supreme courts, over this issue. But your “Chuundu Chaitwa” chairman (HH) has been filing appeal after appeal in order to avoid paying these poor people. REMEMBER, THESE PEOPLE WORKED THEIR @SSES OFF AND PAID INTO THIS PENSION FUND—IT IS THEIR MONEY AND NOT FOR HH AND HIS FELLOW CROOKS AT SATURNIA!

      And why is it that HH always finds it difficult to explain his entanglements in all these businesses he is “rumored” to have connections to? The nominal shares of African Life Assurance (Z) Ltd is 5,000,000,000 ordinary shares. I once contributed to satunia Regna, this company is a fraud.when I got my benefits I felt like crying..they are thieves and if possible just close it up and take contributors to NAPSA and it is mainly used by these south African companies who like exploiting workers.i was thinking they were abolished because they are a fraud, our union fought mgt to change them but to no avail until I just resigned becoz with satunia you can work for so many many years but you get nothing and die poor…they are useless…I contributed there and I regreted for wasting my years which can never be recovered

    • I disagree with your opinion. I have more than K1 million (old currency is K1 billion+) right there with Saturnia Regina Pension Trust. It was your choice to leave them as it is my choice is keep my egg nest there.

      I am not sure what level of an employee you were, but as a former top executive who knows what pensions are and how they work I am comfortable with the regulation and oversight of PIA over this, perhaps one of the best Pension Funds. Remember, its our Trustees who run this Pension Fund.
