Taking part in competitions is a game of chance and you never really think you’ll win. Sitting in the driver’s seat of a brand new Renault Duster, Robinson Kabamba will probably tell you otherwise.

The Kabwe resident has won a brand new Renault Duster valued at US$29, 500 in the Total Zambia lubricants promotion. He was picked from the hundreds of entries that were received and drove away with a brand new Renault Duster at an official handover ceremony held at Total Parkway in Lusaka.

And Total Zambia has prioritised promotion of road safety as part of its services across the country and pledged continued investment countrywide through its provision of motoring products and services to its customers.

“Our role as Total goes beyond service stations but provision of motor vehicle lubricants that improve efficiency on our roads and ensure that vehicles remain road worthy and reduce the risk of accidents,” said Total Zambia managing director Damien Ricour-Dumas.

He added that Total’s 50 service stations countrywide provides services to motorists and that the company’s operations in Zambia for 65 years was a demonstration of its commitment to the country and its customers.

The lubricants promotion which ran from 1st October, 2015 to 31st March, 2016 saw customers who purchased of 5-litre container of lubricants from a Total service station fill in an entry ticket and automatically enter into the grand draw. Monthly draws were also conducted which saw a total of 9 winners walk away with various prizes ranging from a Plasma TV, Awango by Total solar lamps and fuel preloaded on a Tomcard (Total fuel card) to branded t-shirts, caps and umbrellas.

In his box fresh showroom vehicle, Mr Kabamba will enjoy world-class safety and security features that ensure he is in complete control even on unfavourable terrains. The Renault Duster also offers brake assist which keeps the driver in control no matter what.

Dual front airbags are designed to absorb heavy impact while the impact sensing door unlock allows a quick exit from the car while the speed sensitive auto door lock intelligently locks the door.

  1. Let him cash it for money and then head to Beforward to buy 6 second hand cars for our raods and put them as taxis..then he will be rich

    • @running mate to muliokela- you twit! There you go! A Zambia always thinking cheap! Why cant the poor guy drive a brand new car? Y

  2. So nobody’s happy for him then? That’s no surprise. Enjoy the car ba mudala … don’t brand it with these funny campaign posters.

  3. @ MB its good u closed your question with emphasis of mentioning poor guy. first and foremost I didn’t brand him as poor even tho I mentioned him being rich with my method. Iam jst be realistic

  4. @running mate to Muliokela,
    @MB.
Two people with two totally divergent advice on what to do with the brand new Car. Now let’s fast-forward TEN years front now and see how each advice plays out:-

Running mate’s:- Despite setbacks here and there, the 6 Taxi have been bringing in revenue and Ronald has since built himself a house, which he is renting out, and is now building a second one. He has managed to send his children to school without fuss. And thanks to his GPS tracking system on his Taxis and one mini-bus, he can check the whereabouts of his investment on his smart phone any time.

@MB’s :- The running costs, i.e. insurance, Road Tax and fuel led Ronald to work overtime and extra hard to keep up, but as months went on reality set in and he decided to sell the car. He could…

    • Cont’d,
…..could only manage to sell it at 25% of its original price, as it was now a second hand, and unlike Toyotas that hold a better resell value, second hand Renault do not in Zambia. However, Ronald managed to buy himself a Bicycle and also settle his rental arrears.

Moral of these hypothetical projections is to point the importance of thinking long term and see the outcome for the decisions we make now.

  5. @ Cactus that’s what we call reality. Probably you forgot also to mention that in the long run he fails to find replacement parts for his car because its new on the market. Jst maybe he can be hiring it for weddings and musician videos

  6. I have enjoyed the different suggestion on what Mr. Kabamba should do with his newly acquired Reanult Duster!
Mr, Kabamba it is up to you. Congratulations, may you enjoy the gift of car or the money realised if you sale it.

  7. Zambians let us learn to celebrate with each other . This man has just won a brand new car . The first thing u tell him is sell it . Let him enjoy the car and improve his quality of life and tht of th family . Why should it only be asians and whites we see in fancy cars . Ordinary zambians should enjoy also .

    • There is nothing wrong to drive in an expensive car if you are well off but if you are struggling it is better to use it as start up capital to improve your living standard.

It is also not true that it is only Asians and Whites who drive expensive cars in Zambia. We have a good number of indigenous Zambians driving very posh vehicles.

  8. The story says the competition had you buying lubricants. POssible that the winner already owns a vehicle and probably be doing well, despite the assumptions here. Some people don’t wear their wealth on their sleeves. To each his own. That;s all.

  9. Zambians always dreaming of low quality life hey? The guy has just won a brand new vehicle and an ***** is advising him to sell it and buy a used vehicle. Used car, thats right!!! Used car for a new car.. eish. And what will be the value of that used vehicle in 10 years time.? And where will you get an honest person to drive those used TAXIS and make money for you? In Zambia? My foot. Who knows what this world will be like in 10 years’ time any way? Who would have thought a Kamalasha would own a cell phone 7 yrs back? Always dreaming of a miserable life. Why cant the guy drive a brand new car if he wins one? Its not like he bought it with his funds. Zambians learn to live for the present which was your future when you’re dreaming of winning that car.

  10. This whole thing reminds me of Ringo Phiri (remember the security chap who nicked K300mil or so some years ago). Most chaps started giving scenarios after he was caught eating sausages and a huge whiskey bottle!
    1. I would have gone to settle in DRC
    2. I would have invested in XYZ
    3. I would have taken it to my village!
Moral of the story was Ringo Phiri stole! This chap won the car fair and square!
