President Edgar Lungu says he is not using the Church in Zambia for campaigns in his re-election bid.
President Lungu said he knows that he has been accused of having hijacked the Church since he became Head of State but dismissed such accusations.
He said he is a committed Christians and vowed that he will continue coming to Church even after 2021 the time he hopes to vacate State House.
President Lungu was speaking in Lusaka last evening when he officiated at the first ever One Voice Choral awards at Blessings Centre in Lusaka.
Busokololo Church Choir of UCZ’s Chawama congregation scooped the first award.
President Lungu said he was pleased that the best Choir hails from Chawama, a place he considers his home.
Some critics have accused President Lungu off using groupings such as Christians for Lungu to manipulate the Church in Zambia and bolster his campaigns.
And President Lungu has reiterated his call on the Church to continue praying for politicians to preserve the country’s peace ahead of the August elections.
He said the Church has the duty to intercede and correct politicians like him when they make mistakes.

What is wrong with anyone being a Muslim including the President of Zambia? Are you sure its the holy ghost which guides you to speak that as a Christian? Jesus Christ never looked down people of other religions. Instead, he just concentrated in preaching the word of God with humility. Bread of Life is my church and I am shocked at this hour to have invited President Edgar Lungu to hand in a cheque worth K20,000 only. As a member of the Bread of Life I beg answers from the church management why they allowed politicians to grace the occasion which EFZ should have done it instead. Bread of Life is a church with tens of thousands members and the same members belong to different political parties and therefore I take it that it is not right for the church to engage in partisan politics more especially this time when we are going to the polls.

Do prayers work or not? Is Zambia’s bumper harvest due to prayers or a mere coincidence? In the new constitution that he facilitated there is no separation between State and Church.
