Independent candidate for Lusaka City Council Elias Mpondela has called on residents of Lusaka to vote for someone who will run the city council like a business.
Speaking when he featured on Power FM Wednesday morning Mr Mpondela said councils are like business and that people should vote for someone who has experience in running business so that the city can generate it’s own resources for operations.
He said that he has demonstrated the capacity to deliver saying he has transformed organizations that he has worked for.
“Lusaka city council is a business and it has to be given to one who has walked that path. Some people may be able to talk nicely but I have run very critical institutions which I can proudly say that were able to be transformed under my leadership. I am also able to understand how to run a business,” he said.
Mr Mpondela also said being an independent candidates would make him deliver to the people as he will not have a political party manifesto baggage which will come with those sponsored by parties.
“Zambians understand that it’s better to have an independent mayor that is not encrypted by a political party manifesto because it frees your creativity and makes you much more responsive to the aspirations of the people of the city than that of a political manifesto,” he said.
No no no don’t vote for a person who wants to perpetuate his stay in power a person who schemes to eliminate opponents through disqualification!

Mr. Elias Mpondela has gone off the mark. You cant run the council like a business entity. We need an executive mayor that will bring sanity to LCC operations and a productive vision to ensure efficient service delivery to the residents of Lusaka. At the moment the Central Business of Lusaka needs to be expanded say incorporating Fairview, Thorn Park, Northmead, Rhodes Park and Civic Centre areas. I don’t want to deal too much on Mr. Mpondela’s business management achievements. We need a Mayor who will not turn everything into personal matters. At least for now we know better each candidate’s past record and based on that people will make a choice.
Its true he has done great for instance at ZAAA which was nothing until he made it something. And that was when everybody started fighting to get into there to run it

On a more constructive view – zambians must b made aware how a council works. The mayor (mainly thru his political party) define what they want to do. The technocrats (under town clerk) formulate how it can b done thru plans & budget estimates. For the things to b implemented they need the Council (meeting of councillors) to vote & approve it. So let us not b mistaken, the party with mo councilors can support o frustrate progress. So in this light, what is an “independent individual” going to achieve? O his ideas can just not b approved.
