President Edgar Lungu has called on the Church to hold a day of national prayer that will promote , reconciliation before the country goes to the polls.Speaking when he addressed women congregants of the United Church of Zambia in Siavonga, President Lungu challenged the church to call all the candidates taking part in the election to a day of prayer.

The president also said leaders should accept the verdict of the people. He held himself as an example and stated that when there was a power struggle in the party,he handed over power to Guy Scott.

He stated that he was confident the people of Zambia would vote for the Patriotic Front but that he was not prepared to see violence and a threat to peace prevail.

He said both himself and UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema should accept the will of the people and that he was also willing to hand over power if Zambians did not vote for him.

“I have given up power before when President Michael Sata died, I’am prepared to give up State House. I am not willing to see lives lost over State House, everyone of us are important in the eyes of God”.

President Lungu said Zambia was known for its peace and no leader worth his salt could risk such high national interest.

Meanwhile President Lungu described as sad the violent confrontation between UPND cadres and police in which a woman died on Friday.
He said it is important that the country does not lose sight of its democratic credentials as a peace loving nation.

Speaking when he met chiefs Sinadabwe and Simaamba of the Tonga people in Siavonga this afternoon, the Head of State said there is need to continuously commit the nation to prayers so that peace continues to prevail.President Lungu said he is happy that the two traditional leaders have denounced political violence.

Chief Sinadabwe said the violence which occurred on Friday is barbaric. The traditional leader said the violent event cast a shadow on Zambia as a beacon of peace.

  1. Well said my president.

Why don’t you always have such peace messages instead of the mrabish you always talk.

    • Lungu, the Bible speaks against using God’s name in vain. You shall be exposed and put to shame for using the church for your evil political intentions. God is watching you and your days are numbered

    • But Edgar!!! He plants cadres in church,,, shuwa,, now he wants his police to cause political violence in churches

    • Reasons why PF will loose this election

      1. Its clear to Lungu that the Copperbelt has been lot to the opposition. Indication was the failed rally at the Ndola stadium. Lungu can not draw the numbers. Hence you will not see him there.
      2. Its most likely that they will be poor turn out in PF strongholds due to the economy and voters who do not want to vote for UPND but will not vote for PF. UPND has always recorded massive turn out in their strongholds.
      3. UPND only needs to get an extra 5 – 10% of the numbers they recorded in PF strongholds. Its clear this will happen in CB, Luapula, Eastern and Northern as well as 10 – 15% in Lusaka.
      4. PF miscalculated by choosing Inonge as running mate, she has failed to deliver the numbers. In contrast GBM despite all the negative propaganda has…

    • 5. The violence in Lusaka is a last effort by PF to preserve the last nail in the PF boat. It is clear Lungu has a hand in it. Once they loose Lusaka game is over.
      6. The seemingly snub of western accredited Ambassadors by Lungu will have an effect
      7. Yes tax has to be paid… the closure of The Post was ill timed which will backfire big time.
      8. The is a silent revolt in PF, senior party members are not campaigning
      9. The so called tribal party UPND has now spread like bush fire in all corners of Zambia. Give credit to GBM
      10. The reality is that no one is now prepared to bet their money on PF. Most business men who would fund PF like in 2011 and 2015 are simply on the sidelines. The abuse of state funds is not there because the state is broke.

To quote Lungu… “The olds are…

    • To quote Lungu…. “the olds are against me” He know the truth and his face show he his scared. On a last note. Godfather Banda has maintained a very low profile knowing that the game is over

    • Lungu even has UCZ on the hook! Cadres in church uniform! And I suppose the same UCZ will pray while the person causing all the violence and deaths is campaigning in their midst. What nonsense!

    • Flashing political symbols in church???? In church it should be neutral ground because people of different parties gather together and pray. Just my thoughts.

    • Is that PF Tabernacle of All Nations lifting fists like at a market? or is that UCZ is scared of “little” force from Minister of Home Affairs Edgar?

    • Sure sure respectable grandmothers in uniform raising the symbol of violence in church!! Abomination!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Vote for Edith on the lines of UK and USA that are going to have women chief executives.

Let it be a tribute to the lady killed in violent skirmishes between UPND and police.

Women of Zambia, vote en masse for Edith Nawakwi.

Let the men fight amongst themselves. We the women voters shall vote for one of us for a Real Change. Women are builders whilst the political men are destroyers and corrupt.

    • THERE IS THIS BLOOD THIRSTY VAMPIRE AT IT AGAIN. THE INNOCENT BLOOD OF OUR CHILDREN IS DRIPPING IN THE HANDS OF THIS SATANIST AND JIHADIST MOSLEM EDGAR CHAKOLWA LUNGU. EDGAR LUNGU HAS PLANTED A VERY UGLY KILLING CULTURE IN OUR COUNTRY WHICH WILL BE DIFFICULT TO ELIMINATE, ESPECIALLY IF LUNGU IS ALLOWED TO REMAIN IN POWER AFTER 11 AUGUST. THIS LOOTER AND CRIMINAL LUNGU IS A SERIOUS CURSE TO ZAMBIA. ZAMBIA SHALL NOT PROSPER, AS LONG AS EDGAR LUNGU REMAINS PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA. LET US ALL JOIN HANDS AND VOTE FOR CHANGE, VOTE FOR HH AND THE UPND TEAM.THE POLICE OFFICER WHO PULLED THE TRIGGER SHOULD BE DISMISSED FROM DUTY IMMEDIATELY AND SHOULD BE CHARGED FOR MURDER. WHETHER POLICE OR NOT, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO KILL INNOCENT CITIZENS.

    • What a shame to our mothers in UCZ church for publicly displaying a PF symbol in Church.Any the people of Siavonga did not show up for the PF rally only a handful what a shame to lungu.Ala Lungu akalila.

    • The call to prayer, when ECL himself is not willing to actively promote peace, is simply a stunt to pull wool over the gullible’s eyes. The only time he comes out to say anything concerning violence, is when a chorus of concerned citizens’ voices are raised to condemn it and to urge him to act. He knows that the source of violence is the introduction of corruption in the electoral process. He knows that the police have unfairly mistreated the opposition, denying them rally permits for no good reason. He knows that him being the head of state, he should be in the forefront making it clear that he’ll not tolerate violence be it in his own party, the opposition ,or the police force. His constant effort to silence the newspapers that don’t seem to be serving his interests is evident…

    • (Continued)…to everyone. So if he’s serious about peace in Zambia, he should first demonstrate that he’s a true statesman, by coming out and making forceful and convincing statements that he’ll make sure whoever perpetrates violence will be held accountable, be it the police or anyone else. We want to see the policemen, who shot the UPND cadre, arrested and charged with murder. And let him start promoting a free and fair election by making sure the opposition is treated fairly with regard to rally permits. The choice is up to him, whether he wants to be remembered as a corrupt politician who worked to impede the growth of democracy in Zambia, or as a noble statesman who helped Zambia’s young democracy to advance. While prayer is extremely important, God in Isaiah Chapter One…

    • (Continued)…clearly says he doesn’t need the political leaders’ call to meaningless and empty prayers. He says first, “…Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.” Only after true repentance and sincerity of heart will God be willing to listen to their prayers.

  2. The scene in the movie, hotel Rwanda where general bizimungu is reminded that since he is wearing all the stars on the chest, he is the one the Americans will come for.So those corporals can fire their guns recklessly but the man with the heighest rank gets the fall. The congo rabel leader who was recently arrested at the hague did not even participate in the rape and murder of villagers,he simply failed in controlling his men.A leader must lead and not mislead.

    • Zambians please vote NO in the referendum. You may fear what the Bill of Rights will bring. But the real problem is that Lungu wants to make any future changes to the Presidential term of office and Ministerial position to be only changeable via referendum. This means that Lungu’s contested constitutional changes in January 2016 can no longer be changed by Parliament. This will make the current Ministerial status permanent as referenda do not happen frequently enough.

  3. A Church is a place everybody not politics. Lungu you have no respect for God. Which god are you saving? A god of conflicts and deception. You will see the power of God soon.

  4. This man is delusional! There is a significant disparity between his words and actions. Unfortunately for him, he can not cheat the maker of heaven and earth! I rest my case.

  5. There it is.. on cue …There is the Lazy Bum Edgar in a church as I stated yesterday on a Sunday preaching about peace and unity even talking about a national day of prayers…what folly. What is it with Black people and prayers? When is this fo*lishness going to end? If there is a problem seat down and tackle the problem there and then not put your hands together and pray to a fictitious white chap called Jesus.
Look at those silly women in that UCZ uniform raising party symbols and on church grounds.

    • Very true Jay Jay, every time there is a problem it’s lets pray. If you love praying so much why not work first to address the issue and then pray that your solutions bring fruit. All this facade of let’s pray is just to fool a hopeless and gullible people.

    • You are a docile and gullible individual, where in Zambia’s history has a President refused to step down when they have lost…its not up him to give or take anything its standard procedure. Its not up to him, this is why you are ruled by ***** as you are as ignorant as they are.
Wake up from your folly and read!!

    • This is what happens when you accept utterly shambolic and myopic leadership when start to accept everything including drivel and nonsense.

  6. Well said yo excellence! U gave ka Scot power bwinofye so. Pipo even said “abena chipata utulo”. And yet no, here u r. Not efyama struggle when its not meant fo u. If its meant to u, its going to b yos! HH has been failing since Mwanawasa, RB, data & now EL. He has been trying 5 or so times. Tafyabaza. After August he must assess whether he is still relevant. Otherwise, its a wasted race no matter how he tries to force it. It won’t work. Realistic upnd supporters ve oready assesed that hh won’t win, cant win!!!

    • Guy Scott was the Vice President of Zambia ..it was not up to this Lazy Bum Lungu to hand over power just because a heavily medicated overdosed Sata had chosen him to oversee as caretaker whilst he was away. The constitution is there for a reason and clearly states what should happen when a sitting President passes.
You people do not even listen and digest what this Lazy Bum Edgar says …when you listen closely its absolutely nonsense…he should be ashamed to call himself a lawyer.

  7. Just imagine if our Zambian Grandmothers, mothers and sisters organised themselves in a non religions pressure group with a sole aim of awaking of consciousness and community togetherness INSTEAD of this organisation called UCZ which they turn to to seek unity and pass time whilst donning that red and black uniform.

  8. There go the gullible Zambians on another prayer ride! Nothing is being done to meet God half way……

  9. What happened to politicians telling us how they are going to reduce inflation, bring clean water to all, stabilize kwacha, create employment etc?? We dont need days of prayer! We pray everday! Give us policy damn it! Day of prayer my foot!

  10. Shame! Shameful women who call themselves Christians! I have never seen such desperation from the incumbent. Being President is not the only thing a humsn can be happy with? Anyway Pastor you don’t fit honestly fit this position. Jakass commander in chief?if you read the bible Joshua,David and Gideon were true commanders not you clown!

    • If you have read this selfsame bible and you are a black man who is still brainwashed then you are a bigger JACKASS than the Lazy Bum in the photos above.

  11. Well said Mr president and because hate they was won’t bow their heads come after 11 August h.h should not cry foul cause the game is on the winner takes it o

  12. Day of prayer and reconciliation will be a smoke screen. The president has a duty to reconcile with his opponents even without the day of prayer if indeed he is a Christian. Mwanawasa did it with Sata without such a day. Why is it difficult for the current president. The church should not be used to hid evil deeds and pretend. People now believe a lot of our clergy have been bought off by team PF as can be seen by UCZ flashing party symbols in church.

  13. what a shameful leader who lies in the house of GOD. your police killed my sister. *****.
what a small crowd after all the free beer.

  14. Do not bring God in this nonsense Lungu. You cancel other parties rallies and shoot a lady by your Police.God will not listen to you.We are fed up with your hypocrisy

  15. YOUR EXCELLENCY, WHY SHOULD THE CHURCH DO YOUR WORK? YOU HAVE THE POWER TO STOP THE VIOLENCE ESPECIALLY THAT IT IS COMING FROM YOUR PARTY. FAITH WITHOUT ACTS IS NOTHING. DO NOT USE THE HOUSES OF GOD FOR YOUR CAMPAIGNS.

  16. @1.3 TheEngineer, are you writing as an engineer or as a political (UPND) cadre? Either way just leave the subject of predctions to the likes of Neo Simutanyi.

  17. Remember the much Publicised national prayers by PF on 18th October 2015, it all came to nothing. ECL put up a good show of pretence, after that armed the PF thugs. His evil tactics have now backfired, he has bloods on his hands, now says he wants the church to pray for him again, what a hypocrite.
He is inept and uncaring as President. He has had a lot of opportunities to stop violence a President.

    • No it did NOT come to nothing. Do you have eyes? God will continue to heal this nation. The devil is incensed, even confused, that Zambians always run to God whenever things are bad. Violence is being perpetrated by some opposition leaders who thrive on confusion and UPND even has such a strategy high on their agenda. It shall not work. Viva ECL, Viva PF.

  18. THAT IS THE ONLY CHURCH HE CAN GO TO,HIS HE BORN AGAIN?THAT IS A GOVERNMENT CHURCH TAKING POLITICS TO CHURCH JUST BECAUSE ON 11 TH AUGUST WE ARE VOTING WHERE WAS HE?A PERSON WHO FEARS GOD CAN`T DRINK BEAR.

  19. Fxxking shallow minded president. Your freaking God is the reason why Zambia will never develop. You are busy encouraging your people to hide behind their Bible instead of working for the economy. its freaking sickening. This tradition should stop.

  20. Lungu is untrustworthy. His record from stealing money from a client to stealing K23million from govt etc speaks for itself. Lungu ordered ZRP to shoot UPND SUPPORTERS in Chawama and a young girl Mapenzi Chibulo was killed in cold blood. Lungu is a President of PF supporters and not for all Zambians. Lungu after ordering the killing of Mapenzi by ZRP did not apologize to the family of the deceased and neither did he show any remorse or offered any funeral assistance to the Mapenzi’s family. How callous can Lungu be? The man is violent and does not care for all Zambians as state President. We must not vote for this thief, thug and murderer on 11th August. Vote for HH,GBM &UPND.

  21. Jesse Williams said “The afterlife is a hustle – we want it now…” Churchgoers must realize that the church is a congregation of people who actually are the perpetrators of violence or the custodians and guardians of peace. You will pray as hard as you want, sing chorals as loudly as you want BUT if you cannot tame the citizens and convince them that they are standing up to a just cause, that violence will actually escalate. It is not rocket science. The Zambia of 10 years ago is no longer the Zambia of today. Don’t say I did not tell you this!

  22. What a weak cunnt of a president, lionse it’s church should pray for peace, national day of prayer for the economy. Real leaders act they don’t wait for manna to come down from heaven. He is a typical African leader, pretending to be god fearing but behind closed doors he is something else. Rubbish

  23. If some people feel prayer doesn’t work, why are they bothered when those that believe call for prayers? Let the Christians pray and our Living God will respond.

    • You are as sttupid as this president, you think god will respond to you even if you don’t do the work? rubbish

    • Prayer works but not when you apply it hypocritically like your President ECL does. He calls for prayers and then next he orders the police to kill innocent civilians.

  24. Do not abuse God’s name. What is in your powers, you need to do it. A pupil who does not studies but says I will pray to God will not pass because that is lazyness

  25. “Zambia is a peaceful country”, really? With the people slashing each other with machetes and the president heavily suspected to be the mastermind behind the ongoing violence. The PF police under his command have become murder squads, in fact last week he publicly said he was ordering the PF police to target the opposition and now we can see it. His looks are scary, he so much resembles a Somali warlord and at the rate things are going there will be more bloodshed as August 11 approaches. One would have expected a lawyer president to be the first to uphold the rule of law but alas, it is the opposite.

  26. We demand Justice for Mapenzi. The President should show Leadership. Any Citizen is entitled to protection despite political afiliation. I hope the same women group that stood up for that abused lady will stand up for Mapenzi. Justice Justice Justice and Justice for Mapenzi

  27. When Jesus was about to raise Lazarus from the dead, He asked the people to remove the stone. Why? You think He couldn’t just make the stone roll away? No! He wants us to know that we have our part to play.

  28. My question to the IG. Is this the person who kept on advancing towards police even after been fired at with rubber bullets? I feel for the poor son made orphan because of selfishness. Leaders come and go. where are the Kaunda’s, RB & Chiluba. It’s a sad day for Zambia. UPND please don’t retaliate. you will just give the powers that be an excuse. Hope a scholarship fund can be opened in honor of Mapenzi & all fallen gallant men & women due to political violence in 2016.

  29. I don’t know who deserves God’s wrath more; the evil men who paid these poor women to raise violent symbols in church or the foolish women who chose to sell their souls for a few coins like judas ishariot. Whichever way you look at it, this is so immoral; ucz should be ashamed if this is what they propagate. No wonder they are quiet when Zambians are getting killed

  30. All these insults that HH and his sponsored crooks heap on the Republican President have angered over 10 million eligible voters in Zambia and their anger will be vented outrightly against HH and GBM on 11 August, mark my words. We all know that this Mansonist and the cartel are so jealous of President Lungu and its them who are fanning violence, insulting the President daily and moving like headless chickens everywhere. But the day of reckoning is surely coming and its NOT too long from now!
The development President Lungu has delivered in just one year is just too much for our eyes to ignore and no amount hatred, lies, violence or paid out stolen money to the people will let HH step foot in State House! We are very ready and annoyed with HH and the cartel and let them start counting…

  31. ECL, PLEASE WALK YOUR TALK & REALIZE THAT FOR NOW YOU ARE A PRESIDENT OF ALL ZAMBIANS INCLUDING THE LADY WHO WAS KILLED BY YOUR SUBORDINATES

  32. Deuteronomy 5Vs11: The bibles says, “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your GOD, for the LORD WILL NOT hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

  33. I have seen some intelligent comments and I want to add mine. Firstly the problem with the President is that he see wrong things happen in his presence and he does not correct them on the spot, that is my biggest problem, if people in the church raise his party symbol he should be man enough to say “NO ” lets not bring party politics in the church because there are other members who do not belong to our party, doing so will even win him the hearts of opposition party members attending the service. The PF members will begin to behave and not do it else were. Secondly, we do we expect GOD to come down and seat the PF and UPND to make peace, no before you pray, go and make peace with our brother. The family, fiends, party and some citizens are not happy with the shooting of the young lady…
