Zambians bring down Louise Linton and bogus memoir removed from sale

Share

A Scottish actress who was accused of fabricating a controversial African memoir has removed it from sale and issued an “unequivocal apology”.

She has been ridiculed online and accused of inventing parts of her memoir about a ‘nightmare’ volunteering trip to Zambia during her gap year.

Louise Linton found herself in a global social media storm after claiming that she had been threatened by machete-wielding militiamen in Zambia.

Zambians took to Twitter and Facebook to show outrage after the Telegraph newspaper published an article about a new book authored by a young Scottish Lady in which she describes Zambia as a war torn country with children orphaned by HIV.

The former pupil of Fettes College also wrote of how she founded a school for orphans with HIV and survived encounters with lions, crocodiles, black mambas and 12 inch spiders on a gap year.

But Zambians questioned Miss Litton’s account of their country and the hashtag ‘LintonLies’ started trending on social media.

Zambians accused her of having a ‘white saviour complex’, say her description of the environment, which includes a ‘jungle canopy’ and monsoons, is incorrect, and that the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo did not adversely affect life in Zambia.

Zambians now have a name for any untrue stereotype about Africa- Lintonlie.

    • We expect Lungu to apologise in a the same manner (unequivocally) to Zambian people he has ruled like animals for 18 months.

    • We sent a Message to all imperialists and western idi.ots who still want to take advantage of Africa!

    • She assumed we had no internet in Zambia and we wouldn’t know anything about her book. A grave mistake on her part which has exposed her as a liar.

    • A radical group of enlightened minds called the YoungTurks of USA also played a part. They tore her apart. You can watch their discussion on youtube. It was spot on for persons who have never been to Zambia but researched their subject. We also contribute to making Zambia look bad; I wish we could talk issue based matters rather than insult and accuse each other day in day out. We are one people…South, East, West and North.

  1. Now, let’s bring down United Party for Patriotic Front and National Development (UP-PF-ND) government led by Hakainde Lungu (HL)…

    • Yambayamba,

You are so right. They are some very sick opposition goons on this page who were celebrating Linton’s lies about Zambia just because their god is not the President.

    • Social media is only powerful if you use it like she did for promoting herself…to our politicans its a non starter and they simply ignore it.

  2. Good news…If only we worked together on tackling bread and butter issues like corruption, poor leadership, cleaning up our streets etc.

    • Spot on @Jay_Jay
This has been my cry, lets make politicians accountable to us not the status quo now!

    • @JayJay even the selfsame violence we can just increase our voices against it like we did to Linton, even create a hash tag, denounce all form of violence, intimidation, political immaturity, maybe it might help.Remember this story got the attention of the selfsame big international media other than our own cadre znbc platform.Lets get our lazy bu2ms to condemn this cadre violence with the same energy like the Linton lie.
      I thank you

    • I doubt social media can be as effective in Zambia as it is abroad to effect change. The problem in Zambia is that everything is viewed through politics. This is why politicians can FLIP FLOP on major issues without any political consequences at all. Take the issue of THE POST/M’MEMBE and your optimism will be shredded in a second.
Unfortunately, even the Linton story was no different. It didn’t take long for the conversation to degenerat into unnecessary Politics.

I tell you, there are people (Zambians) out there willing to sell their Country short just because their so called “god” is not the President. Just go back and read their posts from only a few days ago. It is SHAMEFUL to note that an 18-year old Scottish girl can “insult” our Country by telling blatant lies and you…

    • Continue…

…and you have Zambians who think that is perfectly fine—and they are proud she lied because it is Edgar Lungu who is President. YOU HAVE SUCH MISGUIDED CADRES EVEN ON THIS THREAD. Go figure!

It is this sort of mentality that gives me pose about the power of social media to effect positive change in Zambia—TOO MUCH POLITICS FOR POLITICS’ SAKE. I rest my case!

  3. Jay Jay absolutely!!! Unfortunately we have too many people who worship these leaders as if they are small gods.

  4. machete-wielding militiamen in the form of Cadres are now roaming streets due to Lungu’s appetite for violence.

AK47 wielding Party Cadre youths dressed in Police uniforms are shooting unarmed small girls in the head due to Lungu’s appetite for violence.

Hospitals have no drugs, so its not just HIV/AiDS ravaging Zambians but also other preventable diseases.

If you’ve never lived abroad, you’ll think what Zambians are going through is normal.

Linton’s memoir is not far from the truth.

  5. THATS THE WAY…HER THESIS ASSIGNMENT SHOULD SCORE BE THROWN AWAY FOR SURE…DISQUALIFY HER FOR DEGREE OR WHATEVER PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM SHE WAS PURSUING

  6. Maybe she saw what was coming….Police brutality. Killing their own people. Unarmed citizens. In other countries teargas, water canons and rubber bullets are used to disperse crowds.

    Strange behaviour

  7. I still want to read the book. Now that said you can see what is happening to Labor in the UK. The lady who has stood up to run against the leader, Corbyn is likely to face a no-confidence vote in her own constituency. This idea that politicians have that once elected to power they are divorced from their own people must come to an end. Now lets shift that pressure to our politicians by first dragging them to the social platform whether they like it or not!

    • She will send the books to Scotland to her parents so they can use them for reducing heating bills this winter!!

  9. Thanks fellow Zambians! This shows that we need to stay united and do a lot to protect our country so that we do not just slide into the misery she was describing. This shows that anything we can do to destroy our country will only go towards helping those who all the time wish evil and are scheming to destroy Zambia,Africa and its people. The real reason KK banned the useless Peace Corps program-an entry point for such forms of mischief! Well done!!

  10. Yambayamba,

You are so right. They are some very sick opposition goons on this page who were celebrating Linton’s lies about Zambia just because their god is not the President.

  11. When Chishimba Kambwili echoed his voice about the same issue people called him names despite his call being genuine. Now i understand that some bloggers just have so much hatred towards fellow human beings.

  12. She is a freemasonry been used by hh to discredit Zambia aboard. hh can do anything just to have votes….Shameful .
