WEEKEND SCORECARD: Huge Zambian flavour in Champions League semi’s

Share

For the first time, Zambia will have an interest in three teams in the semifinals of the CAF Champions League.

Zamalek of Egypt and Mamelodi Sundowns from South Africa will add to Zesco United’s local flavour in the last four of this year’s competition.

The semifinal first legs are set for the weekend of September 16 and the final legs will be played during the weekend of September 24.

Sundowns have goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene, although his only group stage appearence came as an unused substitute in Sundowns’ 2-0 away win over Entente Setif on June 18 before the Algerian club was expelled for crowd trouble in that match.

Zamalek have striker Emmanuel Mayuka who has made the team four times in the league phase and played two matches after coming off the bench but has yet to score in the group stage.

Meanwhile, should Zesco finished second in Group A when they hosts leaders Wydad Casablanca on August 24 in Ndola, they will face Sundowns who finished first in Group B.

  1. “Sundowns have goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene, although his only group stage appearence came as an unused substitute.”
That just means he has never appeared in this campaign.

  2. Youremember Banda (NAPSA Stars) not on the top scorer’s chart? Ok, I remember him missing in front of a yawning goal with the keeper out of the picture, maybe that is why…
