Zesco United can overcome Sundowns-Billy Mwanza

Share

Ex-Zesco United defender Billy Mwanza has tipped his old club to win their home match when they battle South African side Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals of the 2016 CAF Champions League.

Zesco hosts Sundowns on September 17 in the first instalment of the semi-finals at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola before the return match in South Africa a week later.

Mwanza believes winning the home tie will give Zesco an edge prior to reach the final.

“Zesco need to win the home match here with a big margin. They should not fail to win the first game at home,”the ex-Chipolopolo defender said.

This will be the two sides’ first competitive meeting following previous encounters in pre-season friendlies.

“I know here Sundowns are likely to play a closed game but they will open up when they go to South Africa,” Mwanza said.

He praised Zesco for reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.

“So far they are doing well congratulations to the team. They did well to reach the group stage. I am happy for them,” Mwanza said.

The retired defender played for Zesco between 2010 and 2012 after professional stints in South Africa plus China.

  1. What is BILLY MWANZA doing now? The man is so good in defence i remember Ben Mc ATHY almost cried being maked water tight by BM. These are people FAZ shouldnt forget by engaging them on some small assignments , consultattions etc

    • He was kicked out of the system after being accused of receiving a bribe from Samuel Eto to throw a match at the Africa cup finals

  2. They can be reformed and used again if their touch is influential. Do not easily throw people as if they are garbage. They can be reformed and still benevolently used at a national level. Those errors come as a result of poorly paid sportsmen. I remember that game very well and the audience kept shouting Billyyyyyyyyyyyyy, Billyyyyyyyyyyyy each time McCathy got the ball and he could not shoot on a goal the whole game.
