Sothern Province Police Chief advises the media to be responsible

zambiaPolicelogoSOUTHERN Province Police Commissioner Godwin Phiri has urged media houses to stick to their mission statements as they do their works.

Speaking during Choma’s Byta FM Radio Station employee of the month awards yesterday Mr Phiri said media houses should be objective because they communicate to society.

Mr Phiri said media institutions should work in line with their mission statements as what they communicate to society could either build a nation or destroy.

“The works of journalists should not be taken lightly because society is what you build with the way you communicate and the way you communicate the nation can be torn apart,” he said.

He said some incidents that have occurred in different parts of the world have been due to misrepresentation of facts by media houses hence the call for them to stick to their mission statements.

He said some careers that a number of people had found themselves doing were predestined by God and needed to work diligently.

“These careers that we find ourselves are predestined by God.

Therefore, we need to be consistent focused and need loyalty not only to the institution that has employed us but we should remember that we have a lot at stake to protect the future of our children and the nation,” he said.

He urged media houses to emulate Byta FM Radio Station for coming up with the employee of the month awards which was a motivation factor to employees.

Byta FM Station Manager Albert Mwiinga said this was the fourth time that the station was awarding the employee of the month.

Mr Mwiinga said the institution recognises hard work initiative done by a particular employee and they are rewarded during the monthly award.

  1. Just tell Edgar Lungu to hand over power to the speaker and stop intimidating the people of Southern Province!
The police are only vocal folds of ineptitude when its about the opposition. Wow!
Can Lungu give power to the speaker, that is the requirement of the constitution which he Edgar Lungu signed himself without a vision.
Tell Lungu about the constitution and let him hand over power to the speaker, finished.

    • A democracy has free and independent media. Only a dictator is scared democracy which requires freedom.
PF of Edgar, will you open the public independent media outlets you illogically closed. The Post, Muvi Tv and Komboni radio station broadcasting news to the people should be opened immediately.
Progressive people want to see Edgar hand over power to the speaker as required by law of the constitution. Total recall of confusion with PFs disrespecting the rule of law.

    • This is what happens when bitterness and hatred takes over sound reasoning people fail to debate and discuss the topic at hand and misdirect their bitterness and anger unnecessarily. Prepare yourself to go for anger management therapy because you have another 5 years with your small god to continue insulting while on the other hand ni sela ba Eddy babombeko.

    • @visionless Lungu, Its clear for everyone to know that you are the very people who have been praying and fasting for the con-court to rule in favor of your free Manson. The fact remains that Eddy will not hand over power to the speaker because there is no rerun as our president amassed 50%+1 votes while the free manson amased 47%.

    • @alphonso,
Please clarify, when you say a ‘freemason’ in UPND who exactly are you referring to? And can you prove your allegations?
Most important of all, as Christians, what does the scripture tell us about bearing false witness against another person?

  2. Very right, because the media can a be a precursor to genocide by despotic regimes. The media was used by the majority Hutus regime in Rwanda to spread propaganda, hate, marginalization and demonization of the minority Tutsis as a pre-requisite to the genocide in which a million Tutsis and moderate Hutus were exterminated. Adolf Hitler used the media to tell lies and spread hate against the Jews before carrying out the genocide. This situation was similar in the genocide against Bosnian Moslems by the Serb regime. Regimes with genocidal inclinations are easy to spot and the international community and the ICC should take an active role to prevent such heinous crimes from happening rather than waiting to seek to punish the perpetrators.

  3. Its all about Southern Province, why.? What the hell scares these felas.?

Mr. Phiri, leave the Peaceful Southerner and tell your vision less Easterner Lungu to respect the freedom of opinion of others.

  4. Mr phiri is a zambian and is free to settle anywhere within zambia. Stop this hate just because of politics and politicians where are all human and should show love to one another just as Jesus has loved us. Good message from mr phiri.

  5. Well said bwana Phiri, from what you’re saying l can tell, you deserve to be the Police service Head of command and NOT the PF cadre who’s there now. You sound quite capable of leading our Police force to greater heights despite the many challenges you’re encountering at the moment. Well done sir, l salute you.

  6. The advice is timely. Look at the Post, because of its vengeance against Lungu they are publishing stories which even a grade one can is mere fantasy. Radio Icengelo criticizes government so objectively that even blind followers of the government will admit that the government has failed in a particular area. Where you go on air and announced that First Republican President is dead when it’s not true is betrayal to the ethics of your calling. The pen is mighty but truth is mightier
