Tasila Lungu, the daughter of President Edgar Lungu has declared her intentions to stand for the position of Lusaka Deputy Mayor.

But the PF in Lusaka Province has already instructed its Councillors in Lusaka to support the candidature of Christopher Shakafuswa of Mpulungu Ward 23 who has also expressed interest in the post.

Tasila who was elected as Nkoloma Ward Councillor in Chawama Constituency in the just ended 2016 election said she is now ready to serve the greater city of Lusaka as Deputy Mayor.

She said it is only fair that she becomes Deputy Mayor of Lusaka especially that the city has a male Executive Mayor.

She is expected to face stiff competition to long serving councillor Christopher Shakafuswa who has also expressed interest in the post.

Tasila is however expected to face stiff competition from long serving councillor Christopher Shakafuswa of Mpulungu Ward 23 who has also expressed interest in the post.

The PF in Lusaka Province has already issued instructions to all the 32 Councillors to support Mr Shakafuswa’s candidature.

Below is the letter authored by Lusaka Province PF Chairman Horrace Longwe.

    • In all honesty, Tasila needs to learn politics and quickly.
Her father Edgar Lungu has been through thick and thin to get where he is, if we continue having novices springboarding off parental work and popularity surely we can expect another crash like Mulenga Sata.

She is energetic, let her count herself lucky so far and begin to learn the ropes. She will do extremely well in future, but for now she must equally show to be a team player and rally behind the official party position

    • Not sure about learning Ropes we have a lot of these rope experts who have totally failed to deliver. lets stop this archaic ropes/experience story! If Shakafuswa is a veteran Councillor what improvements has he contributed to the council besides politically driven?? This is an appeasement recommendation more than a delivery based one. It would be more prudent to recommend someone based on past performance/ delivery. Tasila I believe only has the nerve to go for it because of being the “first” Daughter ordinarily she wouldn’t given Zed politics operandi. However she is an intriguing candidate for the position….to fuse in some “New Order”

    • She is a humble girl! That’s why she deserves to be Deputy Mayor – and if anybody questions this, they will feel the full weight of her humble father. If that fails, Chakolwa will just rig her election – kwasila, kipeto, kunahu, kwamana.

    • Brakes on Tasila. You have a lot to learn first. Tasila should learn from HH who came straight from business to presidential candidate and everybody knows how many times he has failed and also how he has failed to run the party. Tasila should instead appreciate the position she has and prove us wrong from her ward. On the other hand, Firstly, PF should have gone for a better person than the shakafuswas. This decision will bring about split opinion which may favor Tasila. Secondly,The elected mayor has never been a councilor before (correct me) and an experienced deputy would have been ideal for him. Otherwise the shakafuswa’s crime history and gender insensitivity by pf has given Tasila an opportunity to play her cards quickly but again may end up being fatal to her political career.

    • I can see history repeating itself here…the other candidate will be given an offer he can not refuse and he will back out like what happened with Mulenga Sata.

    • This is a fake and fabricated story, only have true about the position of the party on Shakafuswa.

But Tasila is not in the picture; someone has just maliciously put her in this story.

As usual, it has been made by fabricators in the UPND. This has become the trade mark for UPND.

That is why now they are saying the cannot publish their petition, allegations and purported evidence because it was also a mere fabrication.

If they can refuse to give evidence in court for 14 solid days, what makes you think that they can release the purported evidence in public.

Jokers will always be jokers until they remain jokers.

    • I love this girl’s tenacity! We are tired of tired pot bellies in Govt.

As for the guy who just came out of the closet by imitating my pink flower symbol, imitation is the best form of compliment. Thank you.

    • Collective responsibility is a phenomenon in politics which ensures that a given party forges ahead as one in the midst of disagreements on a policy idea. THIS IS A TEST CASE FOR OF.

  1. This small girl DAUGHTER of the president, she want to be like MULENGA SATA, Please lusaka councilors vote for Shakafuswa not Tasila no, no.

  2. Its called democracy and if she feels she can compete, let her stand. At the end of the day, its the councillors to decide. Lets promote democracy in PF. We don’t want the dictatorial tendencies that in other parties to preside over this position.

    • While she has a democratic right to stand it is not democracy when one considers that she would not even be considering the position if not for the fact that she thinks her father’s position and influence will weigh in her favour when the councillors have to vote. Is that democracy or undue influence?

  3. In all honesty, Tasila needs to learn politics and quickly.

    • Lazy Lungu has not been through thick and thin…he was merely hand picked by a sick heavily medicated old man who thought he would be back to health in no time.

  4. Let democracy prevail, losing is part of democracy as well as winning. I strongly believe she needs a bit of experience from the chambers.

  5. She has the right to stand. But as regards her father, I believe those of us who voted UPND and have had our voice unfairly silenced must begin to urge the international community to impose economic sanctions on Zambia in order to force the due process to take it`s course. UPND leadership and its core base must not just sit idle and expect miracle to happen. DRC is currently on fire as people have taken to the streets to demonstrate injustice. UPND must start calling for sanctions and suspensions from international bodies.

    • Economic sanctions against who exactly? The example in DRC is at odds with the situation in Zambia. In DRC, the Kabila government is widely seen to be flaunting its own constitution. Whether you like it or not the international community see ECL as duly elected…so even if you call for economic sanctions no one will support your call. Further, still, any such sanctions get to hurt the common man and not the politicians. Have the sanctions against Mugabe’s leadership helped the Zimbabwean common man in any way? NO!

    • Please don’t dream of upraising elections are over and we need to move on as a nation, just accept the loss and move on, otherwise by the time you realize that PF are in power it might be too late for you to prepare.

    • @Mulimba, I also voted for UPND but to be fair to me and yourself, this is really going too far. so suppose the economic sanctions are enforced, who do you think will be affected more? ECL will continue dununa in New York without any effect plus a chartered plane when Zuma when by commercial line. I think we should exercise sobriety and decorum when we do write some of these things. we all are Zambians and currently our president is ECL – whether he will perform or not is yet to be seen and so lets wait than condemn

    • The economic sanctions must be imposed in your household. Just because your god HH lost doesn’t mean that you have to wish evil on Zambia.

  6. Tasila will rise in ranks through rigging not on brains or merit.

Do you think Tasila really has a heart for the people? This is another Isabel dos Santos.

  7. Let her stand and lose the elections if the PF councillors vote as instructed. However, if she wins, no one should say they did not want her, this is called participatory democracy. After all, losing is part of the learning process.

    • If she was to stand there is a high possibility that she would be elected not because they want her but because of the undue influence and support her candidature will receive by virtual of being the party leader and President’s daughter. That in itself would be going against tenants of democracy. One should ask, if she was not ECL’s daughter, would she honestly be considering standing despite being such a novice and Jr in the party? In the answer is yes, then, by all means, let her stand. If the answer is no, then this is not about democracy only but her taking unfair advantage of her parentage.

  8. In all honesty,Tasila use this opportunity to get a scholarship and go to school. Politics evaporate, your father won’t rule forever.

  9. We have always advised lDlOTlC Satamic Kaponya (HH) to rise from the grassroots. You can’t just rise to State House from nowhere. Kudos Tasila!

    • You see when you are a PF kaponya you see HH in everything you see say or do. That is the power of the man

You can not sleep you can not eat you can not think with out thinking of HH.

You will hear the PF kaponyas crying……Why niganiza soooooo…..why niganiza HH…..

  10. Tacila, go for it my girl. Its your democratic right. PF doesn’t operate like under5 party where a leader is for wamuyayaya

  11. I personally feel Tasila must slow down. She shouldn’t start behaving as if political positions are her entitlements just because she is a woman and the President’s daughter. She will just end up soiling her father’s reputation and image because people will start suspecting that her father is encouraging her in her ambitions. People don’t just like the creation of political dynasties.

    • Moreover, there is already a party guideline from the provincial chairman to all PF Councillors in Lusaka district to rally behind Shakafuswa for deputy mayor, could it be that Tasila is not aware of this instruction from the party, or is it that she is above such party instructions? I hope this girl will be sat down to at least sober-up otherwise this may be not good for her and her father.

    • Its democracy and she has a democratic right to state her wish. Whats wrong with that? Let the Councillors decide through the ballot who becomes Deputy Mayor of the Great City of Lusaka. We do not dictatorial tendencies in the PF of imposing leaders on the people.

  12. The only way lungu and hid gang will avoid jail for electoral fraud is to place in daughter in a position to be president.

With the corruption shown she will be president.

  13. Family tree. I advise tasila to avoid public office because the amount of dirt she has in closet is enough to make her father resign. The stuff she got up to in America leaves a lot to desire. Tomfwa uyu.

    • There you go again. personal attacks are not welcome in the new dispensation. She is young and her personal closet if any do not arise in a career. Stop the rot NEZ

  14. Let her be deputy mayor she has done so much as councilor in her ward. She has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the people in her ward.

  15. Mwaiche Tasila utekanye sana. You have just been elected counselor and straightaway you want to jump to that position. Don’t be too ambitious and don’t ride on your Father’s name. Look at Mulenga Sata

  16. THIS GIRL IS PLAYING A WRONG GAME. POLITICS AS A CAREER IS THE LAST CARD IN YOUR HANDS. IF I WERE HER, I WOULD HAVE USED THIS OPPORTUNITY TO FURTHER MY STUDIES. YOU CAN HAVE THE BACKING OF YOUR FATHER NOW BUT ONCE HE IS GONE, MY DEAR THINGS WILL BE UPSIDE DOWN. THOSE SEEMINGLY BACKING U NOW ARE AFTER THE CAKE IN YOUR HANDS. WERE THEY ANYWHERE NEAR BEFORE UR DAD BECAME PRESIDENT? MAKE HAY WHILST THE SUN SHINES COZ IT WILL NOT ALWAYS SHINE. WINTER IS CERTAIN

  17. I would not encourage Tasila to go for it. Not because of the letter from who ever because it is ultravires but out of principle she must maintain a stance of “unopposed” in the approach to her political career. This will men dialog before you make a decision.

  18. People people people! Who on earth does not have ambitions?
let her express her democratic right to get any position she feels capable of doing.
Tasila is over 18 years of age and her father’s being President should not stand in her way.

  19. This is a fake and fabricated story, only have true about the position of the party on Shakafuswa.

But Tasila is not in the picture; someone has just maliciously put her in this story.

As usual, it has been made by fabricators in the UPND. This has become the trade mark for UPND.

That is why now they are saying the cannot publish their petition, allegations and purported evidence because it was also a mere fabrication.

Jokers will always be jokers until they remain jokers.

  20. She has started irritating me know, because its seems this young lady is faster than her heart, what experience does she has.Rubbish.

  21. I see nothing wrong with her contesting for the post who knows she might bring in fresh ideas. She has one advantage and that is her exposure if she uses that knowledge that just might work for her.Let us start infusing young minds in our political structure to much of the same breeds complacency let us encourage competition.

    • You are wrong. Tasila has nothing apart from the fathers name. She is an ambitious young woman who happens to be very naïve.

  22. Seriously there is nothing wrong in her aspiring for the post. If she can contribute to making Lusaka look clean I don’t it should worry us. Look at Lusaka, it is the dirtiest city I have seen in the SADC region. Putting people who have failed us in the past should not be entertained. Just give her a chance.

  23. People of Zambia will never cease to amaze me. Is it necessary for someone to have been MP for him or her to befit running for statehouse? I do not think so…look at FTJ…was he ever an MP for him to have risen to state house. Look at KK, was he ever an MP? So it OK…for HH also

    • ftj was zctu leader for twenty years, jailed several times fighting for workers rights, kk was mp in 1962 and became minister of local govt and social welfare before 1964 elections to became primer minister and was also jailed several times during independence fight.

  24. That Shakafuswa, if he has been in council for a long time, then he is part of the failures that has turned Lusaka into the rubbish dump it now is. Let fresh minds champion the cause and maybe we shall see some positive developments. Old councillors normally want the positions just to peddle plots to cadres in undesignated areas. Tasila baby go for it!

  25. What next Maureen Mwanawasa? For a long time you stood next to HH and insulted all PF and even MMD, your late husband’s party. Now looks like Masebo has dribbled you and you have decided to jump ship. I am sure your decision to attempt the Mayoral position was a last ditch effort at staying in the limelight. SO, what exactly happened between you and HH, Masebo and possibly Mutinta? Let the nation know the truth.

  26. Go Tasila,Go! Life is about seeing the opportunity and Going for it.Go Go Go.Don’t hesitate.TB Joshua has said,Carry the youths along. He did not speak from himself, rememember. It is not about you being the Presidents daughter, rather about you being a youth and an example to the world! Don’t you see how lovely it’d be to have such a one in position? Go for it,Tasila,Go!

  27. Tasila is still green, she needs to learn. I know with time she can grow to become and excellent leader. If you want gender balancing there are good candidates like Chilando Chitangala, Roma councillor who can make an excellent deputy mayor.

  28. Tasila atekanye. She needs to mature politically.Shakafuswa is the right man for the position of deputy mayor Lusaka PROVINCE

  29. This is just the beginning of things to surprise blind faith PF supporters….wait now Banda’s family will up the game too….positions, positions

  30. being prepared for 2021? not sure how old she is even 2026…as long as his dad is in power the future is bright
now watch the fall of PF!!!

  31. being prepared for 2021? not sure how old she is even 2026…as long as her dad is in power the future is bright
now watch the fall of PF!!!

  32. PULIZE! She became councillor yesterday from no where and today wants to be deputy-mayor. She may have a right to stand, but lets be realistic and objective – this check all smacks from her ‘privileged’ position and the misconception that she is ready to follow in her father’s footsteps (which are not many, as he came from nowhere and was wrongly ‘ordained’ himself) – and virtually that the family has a ‘right’ to create an oligarchy in Zambia. Not that the other councillors can do any better, but shockingly there Zambians here supporting this atrocious trend.

  33. Hey pipo! There are those majorities who never stop to think for themselves but just follow blindly like goats!
Question: Is Tasila Lungu a citizen of the United States of America or of Zambia?
Dual citizenship in Zambia has not started yet. The father ECL was heard encouraging Zambians in the diaspora to start applying for dual citizenship. So if they haven’t yet started accepting applications for dual citizenship in Zambia, when did Tasila Lungu obtain hers??
If she is still American, how did she qualify to be a Zambian politician?
Nobody else seems to be concerning themselves to find out about this girls’ citizenship. You are all too busy goggling and giggling like the fools you are!

  34. Democracy should allow her to stand.

The ZWD reports and I quote; “UN refuses to recognise Lungu, as he is placed last to speak”. This is cheap journalism and only people who are dull can believe ZWD story.

Zambia has the letter Z. The UN system follows speaking by heads of state alphabetically. Zambia is last. So what is the story ZWD? Shame on UPND sponsors of ZWD.

  35. I THINK TASILA HAS A BIG DREAM AND IT SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO DIE. HOWEVER,LET HER RISE THROUGH THE RANKS STEP BY STEP. SHE HAS STARTED VERY WELL AT THE RIGHT PLACE. THE COUNCILS IN ZAMBIA HAVE VERY SERIOUS TEETHING PROBLEMS INHERITED FROM MANY YEARS OF MISMANAGEMENT. TASILA HAS SPENT MOST OF HER LIFE IN THE USA, WHERE THINGS RUN SMOOTHLY. SO SHE MAY NOT BE IN TUNE WITH ZAMBIAN LOCAL GOVERNMENT TWISTS AND TURNS. HERE, COUNCIL WORKERS REMAIN UNPAID FOR YEARS, THE OLD FOLK WANT TO HAVE A STAKE AT THE JOB, THERE ARE A LOT OF UNFINISHED WORKS, MISTRUST, ABUSE OF FUNDS, CORRUPTION AND DISGRUNTLED WORKFORCE. TASILA RISKS BEING FRUSTRATED BEFORE SHE LEARNS HOW TO CLIMB THE ZAMBIAN LADDERS. SO YOUNG LADY TAKE IT COOL. YOU ARE YOUNG, BRAVE, BRILLIANT. BUT FIRST, LEARN HOW THINGS WORK. BE READY TO…

  36. My advise to Tasila is that she should let Shakafuswa take the post and then start learning… She is still very young to stand the pressure of the City… Five years from now, she will mature and I hope my President will advise the daughter… Lets not bring the name of the Lungus into disrepute… I know some will be saying, the father is behind her, but I bet, it is her own decision of which she has a right, but I think, she needs to mature!!! The Women group supporting her are misleading the young lady!!! Let the mother advise her..

Good luck in 2021 mayoral elections!!!.
