Lusaka City Council has threatened legal action against political parties if they fail to remove political campaign posters stuck across the capital city despite elections having being held over a month ago .

LCC Public Relations Officer Brenda Katongola charged that it is not the mandate of the local authority to remove campaign posters after elections.

The Capital city’s streets and buildings are heavily littered with political campaign posters and materials despite elections having taken place over a month ago.

ZANIS reports that political parties have however maintained that it is the duty of the Lusaka City Council to remove the posters and other campaign materials.

Patriotic Front (PF) Information Committee Vice Chairperson Charity Banda stated that political parties pay a fee before putting up campaign posters.

Ms. Banda said it is only right, fair and up to the council to take down the posters.

United Party for National Development (UPND) Secretary General, Steven Katuka stressed that it is not the duty of his party to remove the posters after elections.

The opposition leader however said it is willing to cooperate with the council to ensure that the posters are removed.

And FDD Spokesperson, Antonio Mwanza said his party will cooperate with the Electoral Commission of Zambia directive to have campaign posters removed.

Mr. Mwanza said though it is the responsibility of the council to take out the posters his party is willing to give a helping hand to the local authority.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia recently reminded political parties to remove all campaign posters since elections are over.

  1. That’s a joke. The council doesn’t have guts to sue the ruling party? Majority of posters in the city are for the ruling party candidates.

    • What stoopidity! These scroungers allowed Chakolwa to put two billboards in the middle of Kafue Roundabout which were only removed this past weekend. I never thought billboards can be put on roundabouts to obstruct clear views for drivers.

  2. Agony is calling for the general public to riot over what they claim a stolen vote but only to see millions trooping to hero’s stadium to witness the inauguration ceremony.

    • Agony is to see hundreds of youth flooding streets of Lusaka CBD selling merchandise and eking out a hard living. Women running after vehicles selling finkubala to pineapples.

      It’s now dununa reverse….kuvina pelete!!

Yesterday and today I told these PF thugs that I don’t buy dununa reverse street items as I rolled up to aircon to mall. Am sure ba PF are buying from these deceived. And have you noticed that the Cairo Road island has now salaula stands erected…gosh!!

      Our song remains …..alikwisa driver aleisa….alikwisa driver aleisa….mu PF mbulululu…kunwa menshi mbululumbulu…….

    • Mu UPND kunwo mulopa. SATANISTS! they are thirsty for blood. That’s why they want to spill blood in this country. Sorry, your scheme is laid bare.

  3. Just a silly ploy to further persecute U.P.ND.
Even if P.F painted and whole town green, we all know they are untouchable, nothing will be done to them, as even the useless corrupt Zambian Judiciary is sterile, when it comes to dealing with Panga Fraternity. BROWN ENVELOPES FULL OF TAXPAYERS CASH, RULE IN ZAMBIA!!
What will happen is only UPND will be dragged through these dirty Zambian compromised courts, & made to pay high financial penalties, just so they can further weaken the real opposition.
P.F are starting their preparation for another illegal 2021 election NOW!!

    • How can one participate in an election that is contrary to Article 45 of the Constitution.

PF will be even more vicious and brutal in 2020/1.

The opposition other than Nawakwi will be clobbered, injured and killed. All townships will be no go areas as Chief Warlord Lungu goes for third term.

There will be no help or protection from other state organs as they are one with Lungu.

Forget participating in 2021 election as long as PF Lungu is in charge. And do you expect ECZ Chulu to declare you winners so that you cage him thereafter.

      Zambia is now an autocracy.

  4. Edgar and his fellow pangarian family removed 90% of the UNPD posters during the campaign. Just tell Chakolwa to pay the same thugs he used to remove the opposition posters now to remove the posters of his ARV puffed cheeks simple as that.

  5. An innovative council would use the opportunity to make money back giving a deadline for the posters to be removed, those that fail to remove, the council can then move in, remove and bill the concern parties.

  6. im sorry but this should never be the duty of the local council to remove posters all parties how stuck up this rubbish pf, unpd and etc must remove it

  7. I have been thinking. Why worry oneself if the people enjoy their state of suffering?

I ask UPND rank and file to watch as PF eat each other up. We know the poorest provinces. Let’s get our equitable share and do what we know best. The impoverished will suffer during this stolen term.

A pig loves as much mud as PF lives to litter and dirty the once pristine cities claiming it’s dununa reverse dividends. Thugs.

  8. If I had my way, I’d do away with the campaign posters altogether. All that money wasted on displaying these ugly creatures without shame!!!!

  9. Stop shifting the goalposts. Everywhere even here where I live the political parties are responsible for taking down all posters they have put up. Dont create unneccessary work for the councils who cant even raise a profit from rates and levies and have to await finance minister’s allocation

  10. Yes bye laws everywhere say the political parties which put up the posters should take them down within a specified period or be fined
