PF Nkoloma ward one Councillor Tasila Lungu has insisted that she will contest as Lusaka Deputy Mayor despite the party’s decision to endorse Christopher Shakafuswa.

Ms Lungu says she is going ahead to contest the position as it is her democratic right.
She said in an interview that her mind is made up and that she will not change her mind at this point.

Tasila announced her candidature for the position of Lusaka Deputy Mayor on Monday breaking ranks with the party which had decided to back Mr Shakafuswa.

She said she is qualified for the position of Deputy Mayor having worked for various service organisations.

Tasila also cited the need to have gender equality in running the Lusaka City Council.
Meanwhile, the NGOCC has backed Tasila’s interest to contest the position of Lusaka Deputy Mayor.

NGOCC Executive Director Engwase Mwale said in a statement today that it is high time more women are promoted in decision – making positions.

“At a time we as a country need more women participation in decision making at various levels, we are dismayed at the alleged PF’s reaction to Ms Lungu expression of interest and intension to contest the position of Lusaka deputy mayor, “she said.

Ms Mwale said the reaction of the ruling party is an infringement on Ms Lungu’s democratic right both as a woman and a citizen of Zambia.

“Ms Lungu is a young councillor whose election to the local government should cheer all well-meaning citizens who want to see the youth and women in key positions of decision making become a reality,” she said.

Ms Mwale said the PF manifesto is clear on the party championing gender equality and equity.
She appealed to all political parties to endeavour to create an enabling environment on all regardless of gender especially the PF being the party in government.

  1. “She said she is qualified for the position of Deputy Mayor having worked for various service organisations.”
    Which service organisations are these?

    • With a clear mind and high spirit of democratic order, on this particular taft I choose to break ranks with a culture of male chauvinism and no go area politics. Let’s foster politics of competition at all levels. What is the reason of preserving the DM position for an individual? Give reasons now. What has Shakafuswa not done that the seat should be insulated for him and him alone? Go girl go for it. This is a year of women. Whatever, the party finally decide, I support the rights of Tasila unless told why no one should compete.

    • It was all planned by her and her corrupt dad, where does she get the courage to do this, By the way where has she been all this time to just come and pop up now. So the money the father is rooting from state house is not enough, she wants to root Lusaka with his help.

    • Yes baby lets do it. Why should our top leadership deny you your Democratic right? I believe in you and so do a number of people. We will judge you by the content of your mind and not your surname or your prior experience of serving in an elected office. Abash dictatorial tendencies by the party secretary general who himself has shamed our party by losing to an independent candidate. Democracy rules…umuntu ni Tasila

    • As much as I agree with having gender balance, I don’t agree with her defying the party just because of her privileged relationship with the president as his daughter. This is where the true leadership of Lungu will be tested. Lets see if she will be disciplined. Sara’s son got a high ranking position due to him being the presidents son, are we repeating the same? We have no room for royalty. She should have contested at the party level and left it there. Those are the rules of PF. Misguided as they may be

    • Democracy should not just be preached but be seen to be practiced. They should let her stand and if at the end of the day she loses then it will be a lesson learnt for her. Again, if she wins it will be a gamble worth the while.

    • Ba @snake bite muli chinangwa bamudala imwe. Tasila wants to STAND in an ELECTION. She is NOT ASKING to be APPOINTED by anybody. Not even by her father who is the President. Why don’t you let the young lady stand and counselors cast their vote as to who they want representing them in that office (D.M. office)? Party/National Democracy demands it.

It is this kind of misplaced venom that DISCOURAGES especially women and young people from participating in politics. And you are the same people who lament the loudest when same people (and you call them RECYCLED MATERIAL) get elected, or appointed by the President. Here is a young, youthful and energetic lady trying to be a rolemodel to other youths to take up their rightful places in the running of our Country’s affairs, and all you can…

    • because she could never find a job overseas and now that her father has stolen the election she thinks she can get a position. Perhaps lLungu bastard father Mugabe or his puppet master Banda and Museveni can find her a job. She is qualified to do nothing and knows nothing. Perhaps a sex tape?

    • TASILA IS AS STURBBON AS HER FATHER. THESE HALF ZAMBIANS HAVE REALY GONE TOO FAR IN TAKING US ZAMBIANS FOR GRANTED. IMAGINE INTRUDERS KEEPING US HOSTAGES IN OUR OWN COUNTRY. THIS MUST BE STOPPED. INDEGENOUS ZAMBIANS NEED TO MOBILIZE THEMSELVES AND TAKE OUR RIGHTFUL POSITION IN THE RUNNING OF OUR COUNTRY’S AFFAIRS.

  2. I am supporting Edgar’s beloved daughter to be deputy mayor.
Don’t harass her just because she is a girl.
They did the same to GBM’s daughter.

  3. Lusaka is all PF so what is the PF afraid of? Is it tribal balancing they want? Let the councillors decide who’s the best person for the position. No one party mentality Davis Mwila.

    • Davis Mwila should not think that PF have the arrogance of numbers in parliament. They’ll one day need the independents they are despising now.

  4. This whole thing has just now gotten screwed up by the jumping into the ring by all these professional divorcées who couldn’t and can’t keep homes. These woman who have no family morals now want to use this simple and straight forward issue as a tool to fight men. Shame on you NGOCC. Yes we want women to lead, but not this inexperienced chap drunk with her father’s power and trying to abuse it. How do you lend your support to such nonsense being pushed this immature attention seeking call girl.

This is unacceptable. NGOCC we are not responsible for your failed marriages and don’t take it on us. Anyway we shall vote and, guess what , you don’t have a vote in this game. Good luck with your wishes.

  5. Yes, come 2021, she will dictate to become the next President…
Yes, give her feathers to fly……, later you will not touch her.

    • Having a sitting president as your father should not be either an an advantage or an impedance to aspire for any office. Why does Davis want Shakafuswa to go unopposed?

    • Ba @general Kanene muli kapuba.

Ba @Kanene, it is your kind of “wamuyayaya” mentality that has kept people like HH in that position forever without anyone challenging him. And what you end up with is a stale environment in which approach to party/national politics and way of doing things stagnates—end result; no fresh ideas and loss after loss follows.

  6. This is nonsense honestle were has this girl ever worked in her life? She will disappear from Zambia just like the way she appeared on the scene when Lungu because President she is very excited for nothing her fall will be big watch this space. Her sisters and brothers are just quite .

  7. Tasila may have fresh ideas to help clean up the tip that Lusaka city has become. If she does a good job, fine, if not, people will have something to judge her by, come the next mayoral election. And I think more young people will now want to follow in her footsteps.

  8. Well. No one disputes her democratic right to run. It’s the nature, timing and the simple fact that another member from her party has been selected already that’s at the heart of the matter. Should PF drop the other candidate just because she is a woman and there are not enough statistically in senior positions currently? Is that not discrimination? Was PF aware of her wish to run before selecting the other chap? What is clear is this NGOCC, JUMPING ONTO THE BAND WAGON and criticising the party her father heads has been facilitated by her stand. It’s just another chance for them to talk down PF which has had a fairly good record to date which must not be overshadowed by this determination to run. AND PLEASE WHO WRITES U, instead of you in a formal letter? People!

    • No one is going to dropped. Anyone in council is eligible to contest. Problem is PF want to field one candidate as a party. What happened to participatory democracy. Individual councillors who feel they got what it takes to be the DM should not be stifled by their party imposing candidates that might actually be failures. Full support for Tasks and anyone bold enough to exercise their democratic right.

    • I will not comment on Tasila’s rights, but NGOCC’s style of letter writing;

Like @Patriot has alluded to above, “U” in an official letter? Then you have an INCOMPLETE date; when you read this letter in 10 years time you will have no idea in which geological epoch it was authored!
And then , “…THE ALLEGED PF’s REACTION..”! (Is the existence of PF as a party ever in doubt!).
By Jove, what does “INTENSION” mean?!

Finally a sentence like “…without fear, intimidation AND victimization, IN CASE ESPECIALLY the PF given..” gives me the heebie jeebies!!!

Eng. Was E, what was the rush all about?

(Of course I am splitting hairs, I have a duty…)

  9. This is news for the internal newsletter of the PF. Please spare us of this drama. We already know that Tasila will have her way. We know of another Lungu who forced an election victory. Any relation, I wonder?

    Dununa reverse!

  10. The best thing to do is to teach her a good lesson by ensuring that she is not voted for? She has a DEMOCRATIC RIGHT to contest for any position but THERE IS ALSO NEED TO KNOW that SHE WON ON A PARTY TICKET where SHE WAS ALSO ADOPTED ON GROUNDS OF PREFERENCE AND CONSENSUS. She should thus GIVE ROOM TO THOSE WHO HAVE TOILED for the party much longer to EXERCISE LEADERSHIP at a HIGHER LEVEL. LET HER FIRST ALL PROVE TO US that SHE CAN BE A GOOD COUNCILOR BEFORE thinking of being a DEPUTY MAYOR. We want mayors who are NOT DIRECTLY LINKED TO STATE HOUSE BY BLOOD RELATIONS!

  11. All of a sudden she has become too big headed just like her clueless, useless, hopeless, brainless, heartless, ruthless, directionless, needless, spineless and a drunk father Edgar Chakolwa Kaloba Wrungu

  12. “ba tata ni ba president.. i will do what i want..” ..It is obvious she must have consulted the father.. it is also probable that Davies Mwila consulted Lungu before advising Tasila that PF is backing the other guy Shakafuswa…

This is very interesting… It will be resolved when Lungu is back I guess …

  13. Tasila should know that when she joins a club, she has to adhere to both written and unwritten rules of the party. A party is not a katemba. It does not belong to her Dad. Naya Wisi? PF is saying they want a different fellow as Deputy but she says Me , I am the one. Does she think if she stood as Councillor in Lusaka as an independent and President Lungu was not her Dad, she would have won? C’mon Tasila give us a break! You won because of PF and your Dad. So atleast be responsible and respect the party. All those who are cowards and vote for her because she is the president’s daughter, should be ashamed of themselves. If Tasila goes ahead, against the party’s directive and stands, she should be expelled from the party. That is undiscipline. NGOCC were not there!

  14. Those supporting “rejected ” Davis should ask themselves what’s going to be the feeling of those councillors who would like to be given a chance to express their options freely. Do you support muzzling people by undemocratic means?

    • Tasila has missed it. PF is a club and every club has rules and regulations to follow. Yes she has a democratic right to stand but as a member of the party she has to support the party position because of collective responsibility. If she goes against the position of the party then she has to be considered as a rebel and if no disciplinary action is taken against her, it will create big problems for the party in future.

  15. She is above the PF law within a space of a year this unknown girl Tasila wants to be on the high table…really laughable…this is Zambia; its like the Party is her Lazy Dad’s family business…this is what happens when you worship these people – in the army they say respect the uniform not the man.
Let’s wait till the Lazy Bum Edgar returns from his holiday in NY as they are all lost like Hyenas without a leader.

    • Ah yes, good you acknowledge that the great leader will offer his impeccable direction over this matter. He, the Party AND Republican President…

    • “…Let’s wait till the Lazy Bum Edgar returns from his holiday in NY as they are all lost like Hyenas without a leader..”

It’s you telling us to ‘wait till HE returns…..as they are all lost…”

      Goodness me, some people…

  16. If Tasila Lungu will be allowed to go against the Party preference then even MPs in parliament should be given their democratic right not to vote on party lines so we can see whether individual democratic rights can override Party democratic rights…

    • I remember something like that happened in Munali Constituency when Old man Sata was President ..where one candidate did the same and was disciplined …I wonder why their disciplinary committee is mute

    • Tasila Lungu has not even worked for the ward where she was elected but the other Guy worked hence his re-election…Tasila should humble herself like her Father and this is the reason the majority of Zambians support the President…

    • Also Mr Davies Mwila the SG for PF MUST also sober up on Independent MPs because the PF will need their support to pass some laws or appointments which require a two thirds approval majority (104 )in the current constitution..

    • @21 Edward ,what is she rewriting?Patricia Nawa was lady mayor who was very effective;she removed street vendors and ended frequent cholera outbreaks! She was a lady of experience not this young lady who wants to sublime into leadership stardom without proven leadership record!

  17. PULIZE! She became councillor yesterday from nowhere and today wants to be deputy-mayor. She may have a right to stand, but lets be realistic and objective – this cheek smacks from her ‘privileged’ position and the misconception that she is ready to follow in her father’s footsteps (which are not many, as he came from nowhere and was wrongly ‘ordained’ himself) – and clearly, unashamedly trying to tell us that her family has a ‘right’ to create an oligarchy in Zambia. Not that the other councillors can do any better, but shockingly there are Zambians here supporting this atrocious ‘brewing’ trend.

    • She is has no time to listen to her Dads bootlickers at PF headquarters and you think she will seat there and play Deputy Mayor…we create these monsters..look at Mulenga Sata, nothing to show that he point when was Mayor of Lusaka.

  18. DAVIS CHIPILI LOST AN ELECTION BECAUSE HE WAS IMPOSED AND NOW DAVIS WANTS TO IMPOSE ANOTHER PAWN ON THE PEOPLE OF LUSAKA, JUST TO PLEASE JONAS SHAKAFUSWA. SHAME GO TASILA AND WE THE PEOPLE OF LUSAKA WILL SUPPORT YOU THROUGH OUR COUNCILLORS

  19. Eish ,she’s quite a babe but i don’t think she’s qualified for that seat. However ,she’s welcome to be deputy mayor of my passenger car seat.

  20. another blundering political neophyte going on loose. many fail to get a correct read of the public mood which is highly unpredictable and sooner than later come tumbling down

  21. This woman is a curse for the PF. Ambitious women are dangerous. Tasila is naïve and foolish. The father is not as popular as she thinks. She may live to regret this. You cant defend everything by it is her democratic right. All Tasila hers is her fathers priveledged position.

  22. Looks like this girl has no respect for the party, PF. Please make her lose the fight for the post, using party democratic procedures and processes. We don’t want indiscipline in PF, from any quarter, whatsoever.

  23. I support her to stand. She is not like hh who said I will not accept results if I lose. To stand is not the same as winning. If she lose she can file a petition at concourt supreme high magistrate and even icc .

  24. Amazing how Zambians can be naïve, Tasila has no experience at all, never worked in public service and truth be told she cannot even speak Nyanja fluently, uplifted herself from the states and of course clearly taking advantage of the docility or is it stupidity of Zambians who are so enamored by a ‘presidents daughter’ as though it is a qualification. I hope that media in Zambia can be bold enough to ask questions, google her and you will see where she has spent her life, nepotism at its best

    • She started from the Bottom now she is here. Tasila is a councilor. HH on the other hand has never even been a market chairman.

  25. This girl must not take Zambian Politics as a play area. Why should she turn Zambian politics as a family affair. There is serious conflict of interest here at play. Let her just go back to USA and stay with her broke mum.

  26. The fact that Tasila is a subject of discussion is so nauseating.Shame on Engwase fimo fimo from ngocc for even wading into this rub.bish..worse still for even writing you as u in an official letter.Mediocrity at its worst chi Engwase fimo fimo

  27. Tasila should tone down a bit, she has a good political future if only not be distracted by bakandile. Our president Edgar Lungu rose to the ranks and exhibited alot of patience and maturity. The girl is being backed by enemies of the party. She ought to respect the authority of the party otherwise put the party in disrupute. She must heed to directive of the leaders.

  28. The organizations backing Tasila like NGOC and Women for Change have always been anti – PF. Why are they suddenly on the side of Tasila? Give me a break! Let the PF give her the chance to be tested through a secret ballot against Christopher Shakafuswa. If she loses, I hope she will keep her mouth shut and not create divisions within the party.

  29. Let people elect. Why do you want to impose Shakas when it is democracy at play here.
Let Tasila stand and councillors will choose the one they want period.

Ba GS tamuli serious mu chinje we are in a democratic country and why bring in dictatorial tendencies.

  30. Maikalange you are sick in your head, the two women organizations have never been anti PF, they point out issues as they come. Why cadres are you dull like this?

    • Please spare me the insults. Just provide me with a record of these NGO’s activities and utterances that prove in an objective and empirically verifiable manner that they are not anti – PF. If you can do this, and the information is convincing I will gladly concur with you. Just labelling me as being sick in the head and dull because you disagree with me is certainly not an intellectual, let alone, decent way of dealing with differences in opinion.

  31. It appears there are power struggles in PF. The Tasila issue is just the first minor sign of it. President Lungu is not popular among regionalists within PF who merely endorsed him because the alternative was far from being a relation. Internal squabbles in PF will soon emerge and reach fever heat soon. The Kola foundation are regrouping. This time the show down will be between tribal cousins. Shakafuswa is just a proxy.

  32. Davies Mwila is prone to very erroneous statements- PF councilors should not be dictated to who to vote for as they have the right of choice as long as they do not vote for an opposition councilor.

  33. BA NGOCC
The letter by Ngwase Mwale has appalling English sentences which at times are incomplete. The letter has no year at the end of the date making the date illegitimate. Unfortunately the SMS language has also gotten the better of Ngwase when she signs off with “Thank u” in place of Thank you. The tone of writing also smells a rat.

  34. Tasila certainly has a democratic right to stand for any position of her choice. My only concern is that she has not yet implemented one project & is yet to attend her first council meeting but she’s already looking for promotion!! It like you get a job after interviews, & upon receiving yr appointment letter u go to yr boss & tell him u want promotion!

  35. This is what happens to a country when you practice politics of appeasement. How can we develop as a nation? “Backwardness” will always be our middle name.

  36. Will the NGOCCC also vote in the council elections for the Deputy Mayor? Infact I think once we introduced executive mayors we should have either done the same for the Deputy or scrap the Post all together…Local Government Act might need a relook

  37. Tasila try to abide by the rules of the Party that adopted you for councilorship and dont run to the media where you will be quoted fine you have a right but be royal to the party abo ba NGO HAVE BEEN ANT-PF AND WILL JUST RUIN YOUR POLITICAL CARRER YOU HAVE EMBARKED ON.THE MORE YOU GET PF AND NGOCC FIGHT THE MORE YOU ARE DISTANCING YOURSELF FROM YOUR PARTY AND REMEMBER YOURE NOT STANDING ON NGOCC TICKET BUT A PARTY’S TICKET OR INDEPENDENT SO PLS MY DEAR SOBER UP.

  38. Ba women’s movement, this young lady has potential. You can benefit your cause more by allowing her to develop and strengthen her bones first. Please don’t rush her into your agenda by taking advantage of her “celebrity status”. Advise her and guide her instead of just using her for political capital.

  39. how old is tasila? is she married or have kids? I/we hardly know her and need to know more because public office requires scrutiny
    please educate me!!!

  40. This dictotorial tendacies by Pf’S SG is bad for the most popular party in Zambia.Let anyone who is aspiring freely come in the open and have a go at it.I thought PF learnt something from the independent MPs they did not adopted in the just ended general elections ie Myenye Musenge,Yamfwa Mukanga vs independents. In short do not impose candidates the message was clear from PF voters. The SG is exhibiting lack of skill in his new office. That is a problem of handpicking a person whose from an election defeat.Lastly let the councillors chose freely.ELC should remember how hard it was to sell Mwenye Musenge who was latter rejected. Was that message not enough for PF to revisit how they pick candidates?

  41. In the same vein that President Lungu had advised that the fate of Miles Sampa be resolved by the PF Party, this is the route that Tasila Lungu’s ambition must be addressed. The NGOs that are supporting Tasila may have a hidden agenda against the PF.

  42. I do not see whatever has to be fussed about on this matter. Just hold open, free and fair elections for anyone willing and able to contest as Deputy Mayor in a secret ballot. The one ordained by God to be the Deputy Mayor will carry the day through the majority votes. The culture of the Party imposing candidates should be done away with. That was how come my village-mate Davies Mwila lost in the Chipili Constituency General Elections last month by because he was imposed on the electorate. The constitution should in future allow the populace to vote for Deputy Mayor, than the Councillors alone.
