UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has suspended party Vice President Politics Dr Canisius Banda for gross misconduct.
In letter dated 22 September, 2016, Mr Hichilema explains that in addition to other negative activities, Dr Banda has issued several inflammatory, derogatory and defamatory statements against other senior members of the Party.
He said the news articles in the Daily Nation edition of the 17th and19th attributed to him had brought the name of the Party into ridicule and public odium in the minds of right thinking Zambians.
“In addition to other negative activities, it has been brought to my attention that you have been issuing inflammatory, derogatory and defamatory statements against other senior members of the Party. You have to note that the Daily Nation edition of the 17th and 19th carried headline news articles attributed to you which have brought the name of the Party into ridicule and public odium in the mind of right thinking Zambians.
” please note that I have made several attempts to discuss the same with you but to no avail. In the premises, by virtue of the powers vested in me under Article 74(d) of our Constitution, you are hereby charged with gross misconduct, you have seven days from the date here of which to exculpate yourself pertaining to the charge leveled against you,” reads the letter in part which has been copied to Party Vice President Admin, National Chairperson and the Secretary General.
Dr Banda has been a subject of impending defection to the PF among Party members an issue he has categorically denied.
Meanwhile,the UPND Leader Mr Hakainde Hichilema has vowed to be heard in response for an intra-party petition to reach a logical conclusion.
Responding to a petition by UPND women, youths and UPND Parliamentarians who demanded from their leader to report the matter to the International Criminal Court (ICC), Mr. Hichilema assured petitioners that once Zambian courts are exhausted, the matter will reach the International Court of Justice.
Mr. Hichilema has implored the Zambian people to remain steadfast in pursuit of justice.
And Mr. Hichilema says UPND leaders will today wear their party regalia and go to eat a meal at Kabwata Market.

Who said by being an Easterner, provides Dr Caniccius with immunity from being disciplined when ever he breaches party rules with impunity. We have all seen his Judas Iscariot behavior by being associated with people of questionable conduct and rumors while being a person of high standing in the UPND. Who does not know that the Dr has no business nor significant investment that could earn himself a living. I personally am not surprised because like the statesman D Munkombwe, in Zambia, its politics of the belly and not service and Caniscious is simply fitting in that. While Herr Hitler was campaigning and making dummy cosmetic changes to hide his tribal complexion, his tribesmen and women in influential (government) positions were busy telling us bluntly that we should start learning to speak tonga if we wanted to work with them and they would promote their like. How Herr Hichilema thought he could win the election with such blatant messages from his tribesmates beats me.
