Don’t disturb water table, people drilling bore holes told

Share

The Water Resource Management Authority (WRMA) has warned drilling companies in Zambia against disturbing and abusing the surface or under-round water.

WRMA Director Paul Kapotwe said companies should adhere to the provisions of the Water Resources Management Act.

Mr. Kapotwe noted that the proliferation of borehole drilling companies in the country is an indication that the industry has grown and that some companies could be flouting the Act.

Mr. Kapotwe told media in an interview in Lusaka today that it is illegal for drillers in any party of Zambia to drill a bore hole without following laid down procedures.

The WRMA Chief disclosed that the Authority was aware that some drilling firms were sinking boreholes in forbidden areas and that his organisation will move in to penalise the companies.

Mr. Kapotwe said efforts are underway to strengthen regulation of the water drilling companies through relevant registration agencies such as the National Council for Construction, Drillers Association of Zambia, and the Registrar of Companies.

He appealed to members of the general public to help protect and conserve forests, and employ good practices in managing the country’s water resources.

  1. Educate people on such regulation so we move on the same page….else we will all receive these drillers with both hands…

  2. I don’t like this post, the people drilling water are doing a good job in the country.Stupid government can’t provide tap water to my house,do you want me to drink your Urine swines,if I have would rather have my own water.

  3. Can we elaborate Mr WRMA what do you mean by disturbing the water table? Underground water stabilizes to a constant height or water table phreutic surface , their is nothing like disturbing water tables in hydrolgy iwe ngwele, also what is that regulation that stops me at my farm to drill a borehole are u contractors to supervise NCC REGISTRATION OR UR KANGAROO drillers association or u mean another drilling of girls??? Iam sure u will be fired over this un professional statement

  4. This is a very foolish statement.

We drill boreholes because government and councils have failed to provide us with clean water. Total rubbish.

  5. Zambia Municipal Councils are the worst and useless. They love collecting money and selling plots at very high prices and yet fail to provide services in new residential sites. What do you expect people to do. Come with solutions rather giving people stupid warnings. New residential areas have no water and no roads and yet every time the council is keen on collecting money without providing services to the people.

  6. One reason is ukuyumfwa by zambians. What would be wrong with coming together as a community and establish one borehole where a number of houses can draw their water? But we just want people to notice that ba Dr Kizito balikwata borehole. I am talking of what I have personally tried to sell as an idea.

  7. @adage 7 Silvia Masebo as minister of local government passed a law that gave immunity to councils and service utility companies and that’s why they can treat us in anyway they want. On the other hand if we as developers show desperation, councils will always take advantage of us. Try refusing to pay admission of guilt for a shisita charge, you’ll see how panicky the police will be because they know that if you appear in court tables will turn against them. But a typical ZAMBIAN will opt to pay a fine and forget the chapter.
