Three Government line ministries have unveiled ambitious economic plans for the country with emphasis on strong public private partnerships.

The economic plans were unveiled yesterday by Minister of Finance Felix Mutati, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Margret Mwanakatwe and Minister of National Planning Development Lucky Mulusa.

This was during the high level government and private sector consultative breakfast forum organized by the Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI).

Minister of Finance Felix Mutati disclosed that plans are underway to formulate a strong economy recovery programme for the country which will be a fully Zambian owned project.

Mr Mutati said that the economic recovery plan that Government is putting in place will be driven and owned by the country and not by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Mr. Mutati expressed confidence that Zambia is on track to growing the economy which has in the recent past been shaken by external shocks.

The Minister of Finance further disclosed that government will introduce budget debates and dialogue in order to accelerate business and commercial solutions prior to formulating the national budget.

Mr. Mutati said government remains committed to enhancing the credibility of the national budget by making it more transparent to the general citizens.

And Minister of National Development Planning Lucky Mulusa called on all Zambians to actively take interest in the various economic policies government is implementing.

Mr. Mulusa said government is currently streamlining line ministries in order to respond to emerging economic challenges which require full participation of all the citizens.

And Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Margaret Mwanakatwe called for consistent dialogue between government and the private sector in coming up with good economic policies that will benefit all Zambians.

Mrs. Mwanakatwe has however assured that her ministry remains committed to enhancing macro stability, stable and resilient economic growth through a flourishing trading and industrial sectors.

Earlier, ZACCI Acting President Pinalo Chifwanakeni urged government to continue implementing economic policies that will stand the taste of time.

Professor Chifwanakeni however called on government to urgently review the business structure that has not been conducive to the business environment.

    • Where are the plans that were unveiled?
If you tell us about government unveiling plans, why then would you not care to show us the very plans?
Were there no plans unveiled at all and you took open ended statements of claims as economic plans?
This is embarrassing mwe be na Zambia. This is 2016, when are you going to grow up kanshi?
      Bwafya!

    • @ Joseph,i was eagerly reading through to know the plans but alas they are not outlined here..Where are they so that we read them.

    • What happened with that book of PF plans, it was launched a year ago, with ka Vincent Mwale in attendance.
What kind economic plan can be unveiled within a week of appointment to ministerial association?

    • @Joseph Kabwe, @TIA, I was equally reading through thinking the plans must surely be somewhere but alas to no avail. I am not sure whether the blame is on the reporter or the government. Did the ministers reveal any plans at all or more promises of what they plan to do? The reporter should have been more clear in the story. Perhaps, he/she can do a follow up and answer these questions we have.

  1. I read through and found the plans therein:
    1. Mutati says that plans are underway to formulate a strong economy recover programme
    2. Mulusa called on Zambians to actively take interest in the various economic policies government is
    implementing
    3. Mwanakatwe called for consistent dialogue between government and private sector.
with these great plans ladies and gentlemen the Zambian economy is going to soar to great heights. This is visionary leadership we have been denied for far to long. Long live the Republic , long live Zambia.

  2. Felix Mutati then Commerce minister in cohort with one Musokotwane (of Mwadya Mweka Daddy) once said Zambians were not schooled enough to understand the ZAMTEL / Lapgreen deal. How do you expect him to explain his plans now which Zambians will now suddenly understand. For the fact you cannot see the plan in his speech says it all

  3. Mr. Mulusa said government is currently streamlining line ministries in order to respond to emerging economic challenges which require full participation of all the citizens.

I don’t remember all the citizens benefiting or being consulted in taking on the debt that caused the current ’emerging economic challenges’.

  4. Even the Junior president program sounds better. We are doomed. The economy can not recover by statements only. It is one thing to make a statement and it is another to execute. Good luck Zambia. You will need it.

  5. As I follow the Policy pronouncements here, a little bit of EBENOMICS of japan will help to create that flexible fiscal environment that will also create “VELOCITY ” in the financial markets Growth friendly policies for agricultural and global competitiveness and exposure of Zambia’s products
You may not go in and fit like a Jacket but a Review of ABENOMICS will help to create that Hunger and Creativity to GROW The economy With Growth for China projected at 6% and implications for Zambia’s inclined
See how ABENOMICS failed to address structural policies desired to activate labor But suffice to say there is a lot of Successes and lessons for Abe

  6. Its a pity that all these so called Ministers thrive on statements only. Why talk about plans when they know there is nothing in place? We are accustomed to making pronouncements that we feel people want to hear. This government will not deliver anything tangible because it is the same chaps who have failed us before who have been appointed to cabinet positions. We are doomed and very soon you will see what I mean. Mutati as you know is very good at making “beautiful” statements but useless at implementation. He makes very good statements that give so much hope to those who dont know him. The guy is useless and you will prove me right. These positions they have given each other are for them to grow their businesses when you and I will continue wallowing in poverty. There is nothing this…

  7. WHY DO THEY HAVE TO GATHER TOGETHER AND MAKE STATEMENTS AFTER WHICH THEY WILL GET FAT ALLOWANCES, DRINK WINE AND THEN BED WOMEN AND END OF STORY. WE NEED ACTION NOT RHETORIC!

  8. I thought a plan defines tactical, strategy and time frame of how they will remove Zambia from the current economical shambles back on rail.Maybe the reporter is at fault cause to me that is familarisation tour.

  9. I can pre-empt those economic plans based on my experience. They are designed to allow foreigners to steal our resources, using Zambians as fronts. Legislation that is supposed to protect our resources will be flouted with impunity. Very little will benefit our citizens unless you are a dealer.A lot of effort will go into making it impossible to do legal business . A lot of our business regulations are designed to incourage corruption.I don’t see benefits for our economy if issues retarding honest business are not addressed.
