Works and Supply Minister Ronald Chitotela has said the construction of a 360 million United States dollars new terminal at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport and the upgrading of the current terminal will bring about infrastructure development in the country.

Mr. Chitotela has therefore urged the contractor to provide quality works as government was spending colossal sums of money to build the infrastructure.

He added that government will take advantage of the facility and make Zambia a continental hub for commercial activities.

He said this during the inspection of works at the project in the company of his counterpart from Transport and Communication Brian Mushimba.

And Mr. Mushimba was impressed that works were ahead of schedule noting that this will lead to the commissioning of the project on time.

Mr. Mushimba has since urged the contractor and his engineers to soon consider what was discussed earlier.

Meanwhile, Zambia Airports Managing Director Robison Misitala said the infrastructure was an engine to economic development.

Mr. Misitala added that with the new terminal, more airlines will arrive in Zambia and increase the number of passengers that visit the country from 1.1 million to 6 million per year.

Some of the facilities being constructed at the new building are the presidential terminal, passenger’s terminal, a fire station, a running track, two hotels and a shopping mall.

The project is expected to be completed in October 2019.

    • Indeed its misplaced priorities by the as usual incompetent and visionless PF.
Where is the $25 million which was allocated for the “uplift of KKIA” a year ago?
Seriously $360 million when even the presidential aeroplane can’t be allowed to leave the African airspace? PF, teachers, or rather, civil servants need and must be paid their salaries. People won’t eat cement. Brethren Mukanga failed to bring the elucidated national airline now discarded by PF.

    • I hope the whole building is not made entirely of concrete slabs like Simoson Building….lol. Has any one seen the artist impression of the new KKIA? Take your time ba PF Gov, give us a good building.

    • @Hooke’s Law & @UPND Cadre…: It is amazing that some of you people know how to use the INTERNET and yet you can’t GOOGLE some of these stuff before you discuss issues. Please google “NEW LUSAKA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT” and get informed. There are short Documentaries and ARTISTIC RENDITIONS of the new KKIA on YOUTUBE (check out the New CB Airport, a.k.a Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe also.)

In fact, it is not just the Presidential and Passenger terminals being built, two hotels (one transit, and the other regular) will also be erected. A Shopping mall, water and sewage facilities, new tower, raised Bridges, Fire Brigade station, extra, are all part of the deal. Once this facility is complete, it will be a marvel to look at and will able to go head to head with any modern airport facility in…

  1. $300MILLION for an airport that has 3 flights a day?

    KIKIKIKI, Misplaced priorities!

$300MILLION could have been used to build a power station, to end the long suffering through Load-Shedding.

$300MILLION for a new fertilizer plant would save millions in forex & create jobs.

    ETC.

The infestation of Migrant rogue tribes from NE Rhodesia has been our downfall. They have bred like guinea pigs & now outnumbered us in LAMBA-LAND, SOLI-LAND & LENJE-LAND. When u speak SOLI in Lusaka they mock u & tell u not to speak “IFITUNDU”.

    • 3 flights a day lol…..I find it very interesting the KKIA has an announcer for incoming planes …(Announcing the arrival of Emirates, Kenya Airways, South African Airways, Ethiopia). I sure such an announcer at Heathrow airport would require serious mouth therapy after each shift

    • @maloza, you are such a bore with your tunnel vision approach to issues, the type that would expect 100 flights at Chililalila airstrip in Kabwe when there is no infrastructure in place…

I bet if your $300m fertilizer plant was mooted by GRZ, you would be crying for a modern airport to boost our Tourism industry!!!

      You are such a bum…

    • Its not your manifesto its not your term and its not your vision.
You are going to use your vision when your party comes to power.

What do you buy a baby first? Is it his books or clothes?
Zambia needs to dress up first and set up infrastructure that can support development.
That is our view at PF. Please keep your manifesto to yourself.

  2. IT IS VERY GOOD. WE CAN NOW START TALIKING ABOUT TOURISM IN REAL TERMS WITH KK AND SIMON M KAPWEPWE IN FULL OPERATION. WITH THE NATIONAL FLAG CARRIER ZAMBIA CAN FLY TO DESTINATIONS WHERE THERE IS GREAT POTENTIAL FOR TOURISTS AND OTHER BUSINESSES. ZAMBIA MUST ALMOST IMMEDIATELY RE-ESTABLISH OUR FLAG CARRIER ONCE KK AIRPORT OPENS. A LOT OF WEALTH IS TIED UP WITH THE NON-EXISTENCE OF OWN AIRLINE.

  3. How can a big $300M plus projoect just have one crane? Presidential terminal is a waste of money. why just have a terminal for presidents? how many presidents do come to Zambia and how often? no need for a separate terminal for Lungu and his minions to go and drink jameson

  4. Simoson building still exists. We used to drink from there sometimes about 22 years ago when we got paid the BC at UNZA after enjoying an early meal of T.bone at city market.

  5. What stands out from all this, is ……facilities being constructed at the new building are the “PRESIDENTIAL TERMINAL”…..then “passenger’s terminal,………”.

You bet and knowing African politics , the major budget will be devoted to “PRESIDENTIAL TERMINAL”

  6. ALL THOSE WHO ARE COMPLAINING, HAVE YOU BEEN TO OTHER AIRPORTS IN MOST COUNTRIES?. THE CLOSEST BEING DUBAI AND SOUTH AFRICA. YOU WOULD NOT THINK POLITICAL. WE ARE WAY BEHIND. PLEASE BUILD A HOTEL TOO NEXT TO THE AIRPORT AND FAMILY RECREATION CENTRES FOR KIDS, SHOPPING MALLS AND WELL DEFINED GATES.(TERMINALS FOR ALL) WIRE THE AIRPORT WITH FREE WIFI , INTERNET CAFES’ MORE RESTAURANTS, PRAYING PLACES AND OTHER FACILITIES. MAYBE OTHER INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES CAN START OPERATION IN ZAMBIA. GOOD LUCK AND THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN.

  7. I bet some people were born to condemn anything the government spends the money on unless they were given handouts. Do you think that Heathrow was built as it looks today after witness hundreds of flights a day. Gentlemen, if you built a hospital today in Mazabuka for, say 120,000 population of today, just know that you will have to build another hospital in ten years. If you are going to spend to build projects build them huge considering population projection. They are building the airport with such capacity considering that it would years before the airport can actually reach its maximum capacity. No wonder this Zambians would suffer if people of your type were placed in power. Be visionary, not myopic…

  8. Iyeee napapa!!!! Of all the parliamentarians chitotela kabwalala is the minister of works and supply???? Np doubt it’s a govt of THIEVES including their president. I wonder if any money will be left in Zambia by 2021..what a shame!

  9. The negative losers will continue to fish dry ones! God bless Zambia as the President and his men continue to point at the work while they are still in denial! I am talking about a tribal party and tribalists on this forum!

  10. @ Jay Jay, Are you talking about HH, the guy who got kickbacks from privatization and stole? He will never rule Zambia for the same reason and you tribalists must deal with that!
