Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba
Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba
HAKAINDE Hichilema and Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba’s continued provocation of President Edgar Lungu is deliberately meant to undermine the President and the governance of the country, Harry Kalaba has charged.

Mr Kalaba, who is Foreign Affairs minister, said Mr Hichilema and Mr Mwamba had been provoking President Lungu by daring the police in a scheme to undermine the Head of State which he said was beneath people aspiring for leadership.

Mr Kalaba said Mr Hichilema and Mr Mwamba’s electoral defeat in the last general elections was not the worst of their personal failures but that their greatest failure would have been for them to fail to participate in the general elections.

He said the greatest test of courage was to bear defeat without losing heart, stating that the most beautiful people the world had known and appreciated were those who had known and experienced defeat, suffering, struggle and loss but emerged from such situations.

He advised Mr Hichilema and Mr Mwamba to move on and plan for the future instead of deliberately breaking the country’s laws because such a strategy was not going to make them popular enough to guarantee them victory in the 2021 general elections.

Mr Kalaba said Mr Hichilema and Mr Mwamba could have done better to go round the country thanking the more than 1.7 million people who voted for the UPND in the last general elections and seek means of doing better in the next general elections.

“The conduct of Mr Hichilema and Mr Mwamba has fallen short of what is expected of people aspiring to be leaders. Their continued provocation of an inaugurated President and their deliberate actions to undermine the leadership of President Lungu through schemes such as provoking or daring the police is beneath the character of people aspiring for leadership,” Mr Kalaba said.

Mr Kalaba said Zambians were a people who never tolerated or loved violence neither were they people who embraced leaders who sought to divide them. “Moving from court to police cells and back to court cannot possibly be the magic formula for Mr Hichilema and Mr Mwamba’s victory in the 2021 general elections,” Mr Kalaba said.

He stated that last week, Mr Hichilema and Mr Mwamba were arrested for seditious practices and unlawful assembly and that the detention of the duo sparked violence in some parts of the country which saw more than 60 people getting arrested for throwing stones at the police.

Mr Kalaba said it was unfortunate that some international media organisations focused on the purported police brutality and found cause to portray Zambia as a repressive country devoid of peace.

  1. But this issue is in court and you are aware of this. If it’s within their human rights and freedom and the law to challenge the presidency, let them alone unless you want to justify your fears.

    • WHY CAN’T HH AND GBM USE THEIR HUMAN RIGHTS TO PROMOT PEACE UNITY AND LOVE IN THE COUNTRY AND NOT ANARCHY LAWLESSNESS AND DISGRUNTLEMENT BITTERNESS AND ETNIC VIOLENCE

    • How does HH & GBM exercising of their democratic rights become a personal provocation to lungu, kalaba you seem to know something we don’t know, Lungu should be careful with some of these people, they look keen to cause him to make wrong decisions and later disown him.How did we end up with such shallow characters who do not seem to understand the rights of citizens. The thug is even suggesting that they go round the country when he knows that they wont allow them to do so,how can a so called popular party be so scared of supposedly 2 unpopular opposition leaders?Where were you when your sidekick kampyonga was preventing their plane from landing in his personal constituency.Everydog has its day be careful how you treat others with stolen power,

  3. The problem this government has is to try to be as civilized as possible when handling uncivilized individuals. We are prolonging the this matter too far. The government need to deal with these two individuals once and for all. Deal with HH firmly once and for all by which ever means. Let us look terrible for one week but be able to move on. Come on men. Where are those invisible nice men of the first Republic. This is a cancer that will spread to other parts of the body if we don’t amputate the cancerous part.

    • You ***** how has HH and GBM stopped you from moving own,you stole their vote in broad daylight they did not stop you how can they stop you from working, the truth is you have stopped yourselves from working because you have no money after depleting the treasury thru theft.Your working is now dependant on IMF money. This is a democracy leave HH & GBM alone and get on with the work even going around sontaling will still be work for you.

    • Because the IMF and the Eurobond holders are becoming aware that they financed a bunch of criminals and their money has been used to buy pepper sprays, machine guns and armoured vehicles for suppressing Zambians. IMF loans are conditional on good political governance in Zambia. As long as HH and UPND are not playing good losers who “move on” then expect the IMF loan not to come for some time. I am not sure that the Chinese will step in either as Lungu has not danced Dununa Reverse in Beijing, yet.

  4. They are unwittingly being assisted by the slow Judiciary, that keep adjourning their pointless cases instead of firmly throwing out all the last remnants of their vexatious cases. They are now using the yet to be decided hearings to justify their troublemaking. Also, the intermittent approach by the police to find trouble makers. We want them out in the communities, finding trouble makers. We need firmer actions, to control these useless people. House arrest for 5 years, for HH. Also cutting into his wealth by starting a court case into his Mines acquisitions might keep him otherwise engage, enough to stop all this trouble making. He has too much time and stolen money on his hands. An idle mind is the Devils Workshop, as the saying goes.

  6. This is what happens where electoral victory was very questionable and justice subsequently denied.Peace can never reign. If only PF had let those elections to be conducted in a free and fair manner this would not be happening.PF is not going to rule in peace these 5 years. The worst ELECTORAL INJUSTICE has been committed in the history of this country.Turbulence will be the order of the day! So as I type this post the Speaker of the National Assembly has just chucked out an opposition MP from the house.

    • We will fight PF in Parliament, in the courts, on the streets, and in villages. Zambia is bigger that PF and its Bembas and Nyanjas. They will dance Dununa Reverse every day until 2021.

  10. IF YOU ARE A MANAGER AND YOU DISMISS AN EMPLOYEE BASED ON ALLEGATIONS WITHOUT GIVING CHANCE FOR THE EMPLOYEE TO BE HEARD, SUCH A CASE MAY NOT DIE A NATURAL DEATH. THIS EMPLOYEE IS LIKELY TO TAKE U TO COURT AND CHANCES ARE THAT HE WILL WIN THE CASE. WHAT AM I TRYING TO SAY? WE LOST A GOOD OPPORTUNITY WHEN THIS CASE WAS IN COURT. THE CASE SHOULD HAVE BEEN HEARD AND REGARDLESS OF THE OUTCOME, PEOPLE WOULD HAVE ACCEPTED IT. IT IS WRONG FOR HON. KALABA TO SEE THE WRONGS IN HH & GBM WHILST AT THE SAME TIME, HE PRETENDS NOT TO SEE THE WRONGS IN HIS OWN CAMP. HOW MANY UPND SUPPORTERS ARE IN JAIL AS WE SPEAK MR. MINISTER? HEALING PROCESS SHOULD START WITH THE RELEASE OF ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS.

  11. Let’s move please bane elections are over and someone is already in state house. Let hh and gbm pick up the broken pieces and move forward but not that forward which doesn’t reach. I mean they have to start a new chapter like Mr kalaba has clearly stated, it’s better they go round and thank the people that voted for them instead of leaving in perpetual denial because it won’t change anything. I know they are still bitter but time is the best healer, ichikonko pamukoshi chilepaya please no hh bweshamo umutima.

  12. Cool down Minister! That is the nature and role of the opposition in a democracy. If the President cannot handle the opposing views of the opposition he should not be president for all Zambians.if you can’t be minister for all Zambians go and be at the PF secretariat. That was the spirit of of the draft constitution that ministers should be appointed outside parliament so that they do not speak as Party cadres as you often do minister to show loyalty to ECL.

    • Scarface owes loyalty to Lungu alone, not Zambians. He is the small evil voice in Lungu’s ear.

  15. So if the govt has realised that HH & GBM and deliberately behaving like this to provoke the president, why are they falling into the trap of arresting them thereby giving them the attention they are so craving. Seems f**lish to me if you know your opponent’s game plan and you fall for it.

    • PF are not too clever. That’s why the rigging was so obvious, the halting of the petition process so blatant, and now the oppression of Zambians so cruel. PF wear their emotions on their sleeves. Scarface has exposed the inner workings of Lungu’s brains – he feels provoked and he will “fall like a tonne of bricks on HH.”

    • No we are not one. There’s nothing one nation about Zambia. We are in Zambia by a series of historical mishaps. There’s no need to pretend any more.
