Southern Province minister Edify Hamukale says lack of electricity has affected the performance of pupils in the Information Communication Technologies (ICT) examinations, in Choma district.

Dr Hamukale says there is need to implement a robust programme that will ensure schools in rural areas are electrified.

He said the current situation were pupils in rural area have no access to computer education owing to lack of electricity, calls for concerted efforts in finding solutions that will facilitate the use of computers.

He said this will help to ensure that  pupils are not disadvantaged during national examinations.

Dr Hamukale revealed that his visit to some rural schools in the province was not impressive, as pupils have no access to computer facilities but are expected to write ICT examinations.

He says the provincial administration will work closely with the ministry of education to ensure that the rural community is electrified especially those near the national grid.

“We need to also look at solar power as an alternative source of power for schools far away from the national grid,” he said.

The minister said this today during a press briefing in Choma district of Southern Province.

    • Hichilema and Bwalya are now becoming desperate in their attempt to sound like they are the honorable elected members of the Presidency. They are using the human rights act and claiming that they were robbed of the election and mistreated in showing compassion towards incarcerated prisoners….what a fallacy!!!. They are politicians and should fight the game in the courts if they are not happy. For them to go around the country and say they do not recognise the presidency is unfortunate. The Presidency is bigger than any one person, its an institution in its own right and for these to *****s to go around the country in the manner they are doing, is a clear indication of trying to incite people into rioting and lawlessness. I have no doubt that Hichilema thinks he’s above all zambians and…

  1. Instead of investing $200m on pointless Chinese a fraction of that could have gone to installing Salor panels for IT rooms.

  2. Sorry Choma for the inconvenience, you have to wait until we sort things out with “Honourable” Cornelius Mweetwa, he has refused to allow an illegitimate government access to Choma or to release funds to sort out the problem. Maybe you can plead with him and pump some sense into your MP…..This political season, 2016 -2021, you people in southern have to plead for development, not to the government of Edgar Lungu, but to your MPs to give permission to the government even to give you clean water.
