Thousands of revellers flocked to Chisamba this weekend (October 7-9) for the nation’s largest music festival, sponsored by the Zambian Breweries Castle Lite lager brand.
Some 8,000 party-goers travelled to Chisamba for the fiesta of music, food and fun at Fringilla Farm in Chisamba, with this year’s international acts including house music specialists Mi Casa, Jason Gladwin, Uhuru and Heavy K alongside 14 local Zambian acts, including DJs Blocks and Sebastien Dutch, over the three days of the festival.
The R&G Oktoberfest has grown from its more modest beginnings in 2011 with around 1,500 participants to its current status as the largest music festival in the country. In 2015, the festival recorded an impressive count of 7,500 guests who were treated to a range of entertainment acts including a mix of international and local musicians.
“We are delighted to host another R&G Oktoberfest,” said Ronnel Armengol, director of R&G Events, who are organising the Oktoberfest. “This festival is all about bringing people together to laugh, appreciate some of the finest music in the region and have a good time.”
The festival passed off without major incident following a warning from Zambian Breweries and RTSA for people not to drink and drive as part of the company’s on-going campaign to ensure responsible drinking.

  1. This is great stuff for kids these days! I hope this enhances their lives. In my teens it was cinema, show grounds, Trade fair and lots of private parties. Mind you I wasn’t allowed a lot, by my protecting parents.

  2. It is by far the best entertainment event in the country, I have already reserved my spot for next year’s show. All those hating are just plain retards. Stay in your comfort zone, we wont condemn you, likewise, leave those of us that love this show to enjoy it peacefully, we are not using yours or your mother’s money, so have no say. Thank you.

  3. …How then can we say; Don’t drink and Drive? Where there Busses, Taxis etc., ferrying these youngsters to and from Chisamba? What transport logistics were under taken? What about the spread of the HIV virus indeed, what were the precautions taken to avoid these youngsters from indulging in unprotected sex?

Otherwise these functions are good for young pipo to interact, laugh, cry etc., but was there some kind of “Clinic” and/or some kind of NGO’s, Government Agencies or any organisations present to sensitise our young pipo or, even distributing preventative gadgets like Condoms for free? Unless these issues are addressed awe mwandi, we are in for a shock come 10 years from now when those 18 years olds will be in the late twenties.

    • YES . NGOs testing, counselling and giving out free condoms. both male and female condoms. Attend and see for yourself don’t just condemn.

Its nice to see the UPND and PF noise makers shut up.

  4. What is really the deal with people? Oktoberfest is an internationally embraced social event, which most african countries havent even caught on with yet. This year we had people travelling as far from Mozambique and Zimbabwe just to attend this spectacular summer festival and enjoy an amazing line up of african Musicians. Lets learn to move with modern times people, you are the same people who will be complaining if major artistes like Mi Casa and Heavy K performed in other african countries but zambia. Cmon lets learn to appreciate a good thing while we got it and avoid only looking for Negatives in everything. Y’all talking about sex, drugs and diseases and drinking when all that is happening even in your back yards and surrounding areas at home. You wanna sensitize people, start…
