Senior Zambian Breweries directors joined thousands of football fans, including President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu at the Zambia vs. Nigeria World Cup qualifier match on Sunday (October 9, 2016), cementing the company’s commitment to supporting the national team in its quest for football glory.
Zambia’s much-anticipated match against Nigeria at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on was a fast-paced match with chances at both ends that ended in defeat for the host nation with a 2-1 score line.
Despite Zambia’s Chipolopolo losing to Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the fixture, Zambian Breweries bosses expressed optimism at Zambia’s chances of qualifying to the 2018 World Cup.
Corporate affairs director, Ezekiel Sekele said: “We will continue to show unwavering support and faith in our boys. We firmly believe they have what it takes to lift the Zambian flag high on the grand stage of World football and our sponsorship demonstrates this belief. We encourage all football fans to stand in solidarity with our boys”
Football fans were given the opportunity to pick up match tickets for free in various Ndola pubs, and Zambian Breweries also hosted a Mosi activation ‘village’ on the day of the match where Copperbelt-born rapper extraordinaire Chef 187 entertained fans. He was joined by the prolific Ndola Arts Theatre.
As part of the company’s commitment to Zambia, Zambian Breweries continues to support a number of grass roots and charitable initiatives across Zambia. It was the official sponsor of the Chipolopolo through its leading brand, Mosi Lager, in 2012. During this period, the company donated K400 million towards the Chipolopolo’s AfCON run.
