Police in Lusaka today summoned Muvi TV Managing Director Gerald Shawa and Acting Station Manager Makokwa Kozi in connection with a leaked government document which the Zambia Police addressed to the Station’s legal counsel requesting for footage of the Press briefing that was held by the UPND on 10th October, 2016.
Police Spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo said the duo has been Warned and Cautioned for the offence of Communication of Certain Information contrary to section 4 (1)(b) of the State Security Act Chapter 111 of the Laws of Zambia.
“Section 4 (1) (b) of the State Security Act states that: -Any person who has in his possession or under his control any document or information which he has had access owing to his position as a person who holds such office or has held such office and who: -(b) communicates the same to any person other than a person to whom he is authorised to communicate, commits an offence.”
And sources at Prime TV revealed that the two has been picked by two Zambia Police officers who delivered a 10:00 call-out but demanded that they accompany them at 08:25 to Police Headquarters despite denying him the right to hand over or call for the company of colleagues or his lawyer or grounds for arrest.
It is believed the action by police is in connection the footage showing Mr Hichilema and Mr Mwamba’s press briefing this week where they insisted that they will not recognise President Edgar Lungu.
Later in the afternoon, the police officers stormed Prime TV offices and started searching for the footage.
By press time, it was not clear whether the station had handed over the said footage.
