THERE shall never be any form of reconciliation and forgiveness from the United Party for National Development (UPND) to the Patriotic Front (PF) and the two political parties shall forever remain diametrically and politically opposed to each other in all aspects, Charles Kakoma has declared.
Mr Kakoma, who is UPND spokesperson, said his party was not going to be part of the National Day of Prayers, Fasting and Reconciliation and vowed that the opposition would never attend any State function, claiming that the governing party was victimising its leaders and members who were being arrested and detained for offences they had not committed.
Mr Kakoma said it was difficult for the UPND to reconcile with the PF because, according to him, the governing party was indiscriminately arresting its leaders and general membership whom he claimed were scattered in prisons across the country.
He said in an interview yesterday that the UPND did not find it appropriate to be part of the National Day of Prayers, Fasting and Reconciliation when its leaders Hakainde Hichilema and Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba were allegedly being persecuted by the State. Mr Kakoma claimed that it was difficult for the UPND to participate in State functions, alleging that last year the PF banned the opposition party from national events on account that the opposition party was going to ‘‘contaminate’’ the events.
“The UPND will never be part of any State function now or in the future and we have no intentions of reconciling with the PF because we are victims of political persecution. Our leaders are being arrested and persecuted, and as we are speaking the police have issued new police call- outs.
‘‘We have more than 2,000 of our members scattered in prisons across the country. There is no dialogue between the PF and the UPND and how can there be reconciliation? In fact, if you remember, the PF banned the UPND from attending State functions on grounds that the opposition party would contaminate the events,” Mr Kakoma claimed.
Mr Kakoma claimed that the first time the UPND attempted to participate in a State function, its cadres were beaten while others were allegedly stripped naked by ruling party cadres at the International Labour Day celebrations in Lusaka.
If it is not one thing it’s the other. This UPND group should be eradicated from Zambian politics. Let them become a Protest group. You can’t use a gov’t platform to break gov’t! Nor should the gov’t and the people of Zambia allow it. There are a lot of wrong thinking people in UPND Leadership that are too dangerous to allow near Presidents office. At least Kakoma and his cohorts should show dignity and resign from gov’t so that their fellow opposition parties. An have a chance to occupy those 58 seats in Parliament to SERVE the people NOT to Self-serve their personal ambitions.

Mr. Kakoma is right. Forgiveness and reconciliation can only happen when the parties involved have agreed that they offended each other. They confess to the offences, repent and seek forgiveness. More like what happened in SA. The truth first has to come out based on that truth or facts mediated by an impartial mediator then repentance, forgiveness and reconciliation can take place. Then as a nation we can find closure and move on. Right now there are far too many unanswered questions.
By the way the Auditor General’s report of 2015 indicates that over 15 million kwacha meant for orphans and vulnetable children’s scholarships was misapplied. Imagine how many vulnerable children were denied an opportunity to education because of that action. And that happening in a Christian country governed by a pro-poor party. I can not reconcile that action with Christian values. Those my dear brothers and sisters are the issues we should be talking about. We need to stand up and seek justice for the poor like OVCs being denied an education so recklessly.

Reconcialtion is obtained by two aggrieved parties meeting and discussing. How can prayers of 18 October work when PF has not invited UPND to a meeting to discuss contatious issues? It is mockery to use prayers and say we have achieved reconcilatibon without any meeting. It is at such a reconciliation meeting where prayers are supposed to be offered. So, who got reconciled yesterday?

If you can run Zambia without UPND, why are you vexed about their participation in your Church of Lungu national prayers or Lungu’s opening of Parliament? Why are you so bitter about these snubs? Why are you hurting?

It’s very easy for a party to go into extinction. The way Upnd are going about it can lead to this. What you need is to go back to the drawing board check your mistakes such as chasing ECZ trucks, grabbing ECZ material using force claiming rigging before the election has even taken place. People will lose interest in you and to me that will be a very sad development.
