Commission of Inquiry is a waste of time and resources, causes are well known-FDD

The opposition FDD says the appointment of an inquiry to investigate the cause of political violence by Republican President Edgar Lungu was a waste of time and resources as the causes of political violence was well known.

FDD Spokesperson Antonio Mwanza said there is need for government to be wasting taxpayers money trying to find answers that everyone already knows.

Mr Mwanza said political stakeholders spent the whole day at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross trying to find solutions to the challenges of political violence which did not yield any results.

“We all know the causes of violence and there is absolutely no need for the Government to be wasting taxpayers money, looking for answers that we already know.

“We as leaders of political parties, President Lungu himself, President Nawakwi, President Hichilema, Presidents of all the other political parties spent the whole day with leaders of the church, Reverend’s, Bishops at the Cathedral of Holy Cross discussing causes of political violence and what we ought to do to end violence. We came up with resolutions. What happened to those resolutions? Nada! They were thrown in the bin,” he said.

He wondered how many inquiries will be conducted by the PF government.

He also questioned how the inquiry would solve anything when political parties have been left out of the process.

“How many commissions of inquiry has the PF Government up in the last 5 years? What has happened to them? What have been the results? Noto! Just a waste of time and public resources.

“The composition of this inquiry is not even representative enough. How do you leave out political parties who themselves are the cause and victims of political violence? This is just another academic exercise that will take the country nowhere but will surely put more money in the pockets of those members of the committee,” he said.

  1. For once, fdd have spoken some sense. Let me save zambia money and the silly buffoons from pf time by answering their inquiry for them: VIOLENCE WAS CAUSED BY YOUR DESPERATION TO ENSURE THAT WON THESE ELECTIONS AT ANY COST. THE THUGS YOU EMPLOYED INCLUDING THE LIKES OF MAX CHOONGO BWAMBA ULYA, DID AS YOU INSTRUCTED THEM. YOU ALSO INSTRUCTED THE POLICE TO KILL OPPOSITION SUPPORTERS. and now you insult us by acting ignorant as to the cause of violence. lungu is a dull son of a b!tch

    • The causes of violence may be known but legally remain speculative.

Thus the commission of enquiry will help clarify matters.

    • SINCE THIS BOY WAS BORN THIS IS THE ONLY SENSIBLE STUFF HE HAS SAID. I WISH HE CONTINUES WITH THIS SENSIBILITY. TRULY, EVERYONE KNOWS THE PHOBIA OF ONE GROUP OF ZAMBIANS AGAINST ONE OR TWO GROUPS. SO, WHY LOOK FOR AIR IN AIR OR FIRE IN FIRE.?

    • This not only shows that the President lacks leadership and vision but also that he has no resolve to control wasteful expenditure do we really need a commission of inquiry? ??? When the people instigating violence are right under his nose!
For all his nonsense Sata was a very strong LEADER . At least he acted never mind his nepotism, tribalism, pontalism, and other isms the guy was decisive. To think we are stuck for five years with this nonsense makes me shudder. 50 years on we still behave like id!ots as Kaunda rightly put it STUP!D IDO!TS.

    • CAUSE AND EFFECT aka CAUSALITY:-
the efficacy that connects one process (the cause) with another process or state (the effect), where the first is understood to be partly responsible for the second, and the second is dependent on the first.
We do not want to be speculative here bwana Antonio, we want facts. The inquiry is welcome after which a solution will be sought. Don’t get me wrong, you could be right and your speculation could just as well be the result of the findings by the inquiry.

    • It was imperative for this inquiry team to consist of church mother bodies and a representative each from the 10 parties that participated in the elections. The composition of mainly PF sympathisers raises questions on the objectives of the whole exercise.

  2. It’s very sad to hear this type of retort. After all, since the Church enquiry, which was informal, there has been continued violence and dissent among the opposition to the point of refusing to attend Parliament. This can only formalise the original inquiry and I am sure more will be discovered. I disagree with the demand for other parties to be included, because it will only end in farce especially if UPND are included!!!

    • Your comments are misguided & your apparent support for PF makes u lack common sense in your comments – go & submit to the commission if u have time to waste

    • I looked at that list of chosen participants, and it’s clear, it multi regional and most are included, including Southerners.

    • Since when is refusing to attend Parliament “violence” ??????

Patriot abroad, you should try and educate yourself before displaying your ignorance and predjudice here.

Boycotts are a perfectly legitimate form of peaceful protest against injustice and wrongdoing accepted as such globally.

Try using some brains before ‘ commenting

  3. Pf should stop dreaming and looking at hh and upnd shadows.otherwise pf lives in fear and cooked up op reports.release all political prisoners, lungu is a very weak and visionless leader.what type of DNA do majority of zambians have?

    • Comment:muntu wandi giving comments its allowed but not commenting on something u don’t understand!!! mind on whatever u say, what do you know about op? mind u every government that comes in gives total respect to that institution… interject if u can

  4. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to explain why the voting pattern had been that way. Certain tribes /regions feel left out and marginalised. A cross check on appointments in foreign service, ministries and parastatals tells a terrible story and total departure from the One Zambia One Nation concept which was the corner stone and foundation of the Republic of Zambia. This trend is causing divisions and tension. God gave Zambia 73 tribes all equal, why not create a balanced and conducive atmosphere for our people to live as one. That is how you balance the best brains for the benefit of the nation and the populace at large. During the struggle for Independence our forefathers stood shoulder to shoulder fighting for common purpose, without that unity of purpose they would not have…

  5. Mwanza you and your leader were dancing with the PF snake and got bitten.

You were clearly taking sides with the PF hoping for crumbs under the table where you sit but lungu and the PF ignored you.

  6. Mwanza has always been a UPND Sympathizer. He is actually Muanza from Kafue District.
He didn’t see anything wrong with the violency that took place after Akainde miserably lost elections.
Muanza Muanza, muanza, please keep quiet if you have nothing to say

  7. Uncle B.E.setting up a commission of inquiry is a right and official means of establishing solutions to political problems.so those criticising the President’s decision and insulting him, are in fact the real cause of violence. If you were included on the commission, were you going to insult lungu?let lungu do his job.you are just a minority who are against.just calm down and wait for your time.work. hard if you want to enjoy your living.

  8. The idi0ts on the commission will definitely blame the opposition! They can’t blame their paymaster Lungu c!kala Chawishi! This is how it works in Zambia.

  9. Drama never ceases in this worst regime in the history of this country. They know they are the ones who caused that violence.Meanwhile people sitting on that useless commission will get hefty allowances at the expense of a poor peasant farmer out there.Rubbish!!

  10. Comment:
they are just three provinces where political violence was heavily practiced.if I was president I wud call leaders from named provinces and resolve the issue

    • Include Northern Province where Satana Kampyongo twice tried to bring down helicopters. Northern Province also had PF upon PF violence. I have seen videos of PF factions fighting. That’s why there are more independent MPs from up north.

  11. Just let the nation hear the UPND petition, to prove lungu won, even televis it live if you have nothing to hide Mr lungu.

Instead of hiding behind inquiries and 14 day technicalities just prove you did not steal the election bambo.

    • Upnd held the nation at ransom with their preliminary applications without calling a witness why should we indulge with 2 hrs more. Let us hear what the MP petitioners are saying. Maybe we televise those because they make give us an overview of their complaints. By reading the actual Petition there is nothing they had to prove. They lost just by the way it was drafted. Read the petition and we can chat.

  12. Until it is proven that the evidence of a stolen election that UPND are singing about is not evidence enogh no amount of enquiries and commissions will legitimise lungu.

To half the nation he will remain a fraud president enforced on zambia until we see that petition.

    • Let them mourn their leaders failed to call a single witness. No one stopped them. Why can’t you take some blame instead of blaming everyone?

    • They failed to call a single witness because PF have the witnesses in custody and those same witnesses are refused visitation rights.

  13. The causes of violence may be known but legally remain speculative.

Thus, the commission of enquiry will help clarify matters.

    • There is no legal need to find the cause of the violence. This commission is self-serving and a waste of money and time by Lungu who is so obsessed with HH.

  14. Imagine a US President setting up a commission of enquiry on how and why Texas is red(Republican).

Regional voting is “global” sorry for sounding like one pf monster, sorry minister. That’s why in the USA they they are fond of the famous swing States, they go either way, we also have our lusaka and copperbelt, which swing from one party to another almost every election and it’s no secret UPND did wonders in these two provinces. Do not argue you were not there.

    • @ 15 DIVIDE AND RULE

But look, there is no need for an enquiry in USA because those in the stronghold of the losing candidate do to displace those who support the winning candidate.

So why compare nshaba with cars? Those are unlike terms.

Don’t make scenarios that even you will fail to understand what you are saying.

If kaponya causes rash to a person and they go to the hospital for investigation, don’t tell them that that it is not necessary because the neighbors eat the same kaponya and are not harmed.

Thinking is most encouraged, but the way we think matters most.

  15. The inquiry money should be given to university students for academic research in this matter. Period. Those people on the commission should be given new terms of reference. They should go to Ndola or Nigeria to beg Dangote teach them how he produces cheap cement, how he makes electricity from coal and why he doesn’t complain about the Karina dam having less water.
The same group should also go to secondary school students and beg them to explain the implications of KCM having been “donated”to an Indian company and ask how this can be reversed.

  16. @ 15 DIVIDE AND RULE

But look, there is no need for an enquiry in USA because those in the stronghold of the losing candidate do to displace those who support the winning candidate.

So why compare nshaba with cars? Those are unlike terms.

Don’t make scenarios that even you will fail to understand what you are saying.

If kapenta causes rash to a person and they go to the hospital for investigation, don’t tell them that that it is not necessary because the neighbors eat the same kapenta and are not harmed.

Thinking is most encouraged, but the way we think matters most.

    • Mate, it looks like you are working overtime copying and pasting the same argument over and over (even from the other article about the same), expecting people will hear you but I think it’s a tired argument. Let go mate!

  17. I have to agree that this CoE is another waste of taxpayer money. The causes are clearly known as cadres merely execute what their political leaders order them or tolerate them to do.

This is CoE is just hypocrisy and cheap propaganda and a way of Lungu trying to legitimise his stolen election win. I hope this boomerangs in his face… it would be interesting to know what he does if he is named as one of the causes. His police were on rampage terrorising the opposition cadres and the opposition’s helicopter was almost brought down by PF cadres and Lungu never condemned these culprits.

I just hope this CoE brings out the evidence of votes fraud and rigging evidence that we were denied a chance of hearing. I also hope he will be subpoenaed to go and give evidence himself as…

  18. continue reading…
I also hope he will be subpoenaed to go and give evidence himself as the thug-in-chief. Would he turn up?

  19. we are talking about fiscal discipline where we need to control our expenses so this is not the right time to start bringing inquiries of this, inquiries of that. our government is behaving like mad buddies at chainama who spends the whole day trying to fill a drum with water using a basket to draw water from the tap.so Mr lungu should owner up no need to be wasting our money for fakoooo.

  20. The writer of this article is spot on. ECL is wasting government resources on a matter he can put to rest if he has the country at heart. The source of violence is PF, they are thugs. We saw it during the election period and we are still seeing how under the influence of ECL there is brutalist in the manner in which police is handling the opposition. When PF thugs chase others from market stands and go and camp at High Court there are no arrests. It’s acceptable. There is selective justice in this country. ECL has never come out to condem police brutality or his cadres unruly activities. He is mute as if nothing wrong is going in. As president of a country you can not be mute unless police and the PF cadres are working under your instruction. Take a leaf from Mwanawasa one of the best…

  21. What will the CoE resolve? What action can ECL take because of the outcome of the CoE which he cannot take now as leader of the nation unless he wants to justify some form of victimization of certain people!!!?. He wants the CoE to back his evil plans otherwise if he is a sincere person, he can resolve all the issues by treating every Zambian equally.

  22. I suggest that ECL should concentrate on re enforcing fiscal financial discipline instead of an enquiry which will not save any purpose. The audit report that has just come is bad and irregularities needs to be addressed properly. The appointed members of this enquiry are likely to behave like the constututional court judges whose allegency was to ECL at any cost. They shamefully discarded the election petition on well manoeuvred technicallities to ensure ECL is inaugurated.,

  23. Naomi you could be right. ECL may be looking for the outcome which he already knows and has passed on to the enquiry to document so that he can use it to punish his opponent. All pointers seem to suggest that Zambia is going the autocratic way like one of the neighbouring countries here in Southern Africa and the other one in East Africa. He is taking us back to one party rule situation we were in during Kaunda days.

  24. ECL shall forever be tormented by the stolen victory. Let the petition be heard. We want the truth to be known. Election to the office of President of Zambia should be attained in a just and fair manner. BUSHOLI KI CANCER YE MASWE.

  25. At times I sit an wonder why Lungu is the way he is.
    -stole his client’s money
    -stole transitional presidency from Scott
    -stole pf presidency at mulungushi
-now he is acused of stealing what a consistent trend! Behavior, character, or habit?
A lawyer worthy the calling cannot go to NewYork and declare before the UN that the elections were free and fair then comes back home instead of thinking about worker’s salaries he’s haunted by the election and hence he sets up a commission of enquiry to investigate the free and fair elections. Could he be sick or he just does not know what he is doing or saying?

  26. A pure sheer waste of Tax payers money& precious time to come up wt sound strategic plans of our economic recovery! May this commission b dissolved b4 its given more sitting allowances? Peoples mind sets& feelings can Neva b changed till themselves choose to change. Thats simple & straight forward!

  27. Isn’t it an impeachable offence for one to swear to protect the assets of the country and then proceed to WASTE it aginst the best of advice? The President has no respect for the constitution or he does not understand it at all! 19 of the 20 causes of violence are well known. They include PF,PF, PF, PF, PF, PF, PF, PF, PF, PF, PF, PF, PF ,PF, PF, PF, PF, PF, PF, ….

    • Antonio you’re very right. They are removing consumption subsidies and on other hand creating unnecessary expenses. Inquiry to achieve what honestly.

  28. mr president edgar c lungu i would like to appeal to you please dont keep on making yourself unpopular by going into making useless disesions . there are many problems in this country which requires urgent attention such as paying retirees and other retrenchees who have asked for some payments. this case of political violence is useless as all parties are involved. in every case your party pf is found wanting. your police force caused some people to be violent when they beeing arrestd for nothing leaving out pf cadres. now its even worse kampyongo home affairs minister and chama minister of defence who if it was the opposition who won these two could have been in jail by now.
