The Mutati faction MMD youths have supported the call by Minister of homes Affairs Stephen Kampyongo to have anyone masquerading as MMD President arrested saying the call was long overdue.
The faction’s National Youth Treasure Geoffrey Mulenga said the Minister’s call to have those masquerading as MMD leaders arrested was welcome because the party has only one President who is Felix Mutati.
Mr Mulenga said the continued claim by Nevers Mumba that he is a party President is confusing members of the party.
He said the Mutati faction MMD youths were happy that the PF has shown commitment to upholding the rule of law and that the youths in the party are ready to work with law enforcement officers in ensuring that Nevers Mumba and his clique of leaders who continue to masquerade as party leaders are arrested.
“We as MMD Youths are happy that the minister has warned that anyone masquerading as MMD President will be arrested. As a party we went to the convention and elected Mr Mutati and other leaders, the registrar of society has names of office bearers which were effected after they were satisfied with the necessary documentation which we provided to them and the names does not include Dr Mumba but he continues to issue statements using the name of the party.
“We have laws in this country and masquerading to be some one you are not is a crime. As youths in the party we commend the home Affairs Minister for a firm stance he has taken in addressing this matter once and for all. We are ready to work with law enforcement officers identifying other former leaders who are working with our former leader who has failed to move on after members chose to elect Mr Mutati as a flag bearer for the party.”
“We urge the UPND who have welcomed our former Party President to stop supporting illegalities in their quest to gain political mileage. Let the UPND provide meaning checks and balances to this nation which include making sure that their new found friend Nevers Mumba does not continue committing illegalities,” he said.
Mr Mulenga was commenting on a statement he issued by Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo in parliament where he warned that anyone masquerading as MMD President will be arrested.
Meanwhile Mr Mulenga has commended UPND Vice President Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba for endorsing President Lungu’s call to have those cited in the Auditor General’s report arrested.
Mr Mulenga said Mr Mwamba’s support is an indication that he recognizes that President Lungu is our President and that the UPND should now move on and stop politicking on whether President Lungu was duly elected or not.
He said the country has more important issues such as the fight against poverty which should be prioritised as opposed to fighting each other for leadership positions.
