Opposition People’s Party (PP) president Mike Mulongoti says the commission of inquiry on electoral violence that President Edgar Lungu has instituted must ensure that perpetrators of the vice are prosecuted.

Mr. Mulongoti stated that it will be a waste of tax payers’ money if those that will be found wanting are not prosecuted as has been the case in the past.
He said President Lungu did well to constitute a commission of inquiry to look into the post-election violence so that what was experienced during the 2016 general elections should not happen again in future elections.

“It will be interesting to know who was behind the violence that characterized the 2016 elections because this is the first time that the country experienced such a thing,” Mr. Mulongoti said.

The opposition leader said this on the side-lines of the Universal Peace Federation International Leadership Conference at Continental Hotel last evening.

President Lungu appointed a 15-member team headed by Justice Munalula Lisimba to examine the causes of political violence before and after the August 11 general elections and tasked the commission to submit its report within 120 days from the date of appointment.

    • Mostly its the police who beat up innocent people for nothing.

Police brutality is one of several forms of police misconduct, which include: false arrest; intimidation; sexual abuse; and corruption.

  1. Wake up Mulongoti. This money wasting show is just there to cover up PF intimidation, vote rigging and their instigation of violence.

All will be blamed on HH and the UNPD with Lungu pronounced a true Saint.

This is not about Truth and Justice, it is about whitewashing PF criminality.

Not one PF criminal will be arrested. How many cases are there already known to everyone, and the police? Has anything happened to them?

  2. In the first place we didn’t need this stup1d inquiry what our master clueless president was supposed to do is to appoint people to help him fix the economy he has messed up with his shinki polomya.

  3. Self defence by UPND as usual, the guilty are afraid. Let the commission work and expose the perpetrators, including those who broke the arm of the female FDD candidate in Namwala.

  4. Going by the arrests by UPND officials its clear that ECL is the commander in chief of violence and violations!

  5. Mulongoti if you have nothing to do just keep quiet. You know very well which party has been violent these are the same people who has been killing innocent citizens.

  6. Njala chabe aMulongoti imwe’
If P.F was serious about violence perpetrators in Zambia, they would be chasing one person, shouting “mugwileni uyo Kampyongo, aleta ndewu na musokonezo” instead of rewarding him with the Home affairs portfolio, after the violence he TWICE initiated in Shiwan’gandu when he sent his thugs to commit aviation terr0rism, by attempting to bring down Helicopters carrying opposition leaders.
Now Mulongoti if you used your grey matter, instead of your Gluteus muscle to think, & reason, you would say it as it is, “P.F IS RESPONSIBLE FOR 90% OF POLITICAL VIOLENCE IN ZAMBIA”.

  7. Correction “this is the first time it has happened in this country “. It happened when ANC the Upnd forunner was hacking and killing those who belonged to Unip or Bemba tribes.
