Zambian Breweries is so concerned with the effects of beer drinking among youths that it is rolling out a campaign to discourage underage drinking in schools.
The company continued its drive at Kabulonga Boys Secondary School in Lusaka last week, when  Zambian Breweries representative  Allan Bwalya indicated that secondary schools were being particularly targeted for the information programme.
“We are rolling out our campaign against underage drinking in secondary schools because this is the age at which young people start engaging in beer drinking,” he said. “We want to remind pupils that beer is for adults and there is an age limit to it. We are also educating the pupils on the effects of underage drinking, and pointing out that they should wait until they complete school.”
Zambian Breweries is working with the Road Transport Safety Agency (RTSA) which has donated 100 copies of the Highway Code to the school.
Kabulonga Boys School headmaster Lloyd Yamboto welcomed the Zambian Breweries campaign and said that underage drinking is a countrywide problem.
“The problem contributes to the huge number of disciplinary cases we handle. Some pupils start drinking alcohol from their homes and then come to school. On average, in a month we handle about ten cases in school but there could be others outside school. In such cases, we call their parents and counsel them. The parents are quite supportive through the PTA (parent teachers association) and share ideas on how to address such issues.”
He said the Zambian Breweries campaign is coming at just the right time and would help the school a great deal in educating the pupils on the dangers of underage drinking.
He thanked the company for the programme, describing it as beneficial and a good way to keep the pupils away from beer drinking. The company has targeted to speak to  5,000 pupils ,for the whole year, and managed to reach 1,100 during the Kabulonga Boys campaign..
At the same event, Zambian Breweries distributed non-alcoholic Maheu drinks.

  1. Indeed va ba nkulu ni va ba nkula full stop. To the company hats up for the good campaign l didn’t perform well at my secondary becoz of stupid habit
of beer drinking at tender age.

    • @Mwenye, I agree with you. But me I can blame teachers too, they used to send us to buy beers because was ka long walking distance from boarding school, payment was a 2.5 L of chibuku + sugar.

  2. I dont know who told these teenagers that drinking, smoking, having sex with everybody is FASHIONABLE. Tell your children, sex is good and so is drinking beer,(though i hate beer, and i dont drink or smoke) All of these have deadly consequences, Study the risks behind the reckless behaviour before you indulge. Don’t just tell the children don’t drink and don’t have sex, dont smoke, tell them about the health risks attached to them BABIES SHOULD BE PLANNED AND ACCIDENTAL. And on other hand ,parents dont live carelessly, having sex with multiple partners even while married and the kids are watching, drinking like a FISH, to the point where you drink your brains off as well, and yet again children are watching. CHILDREN LEARN AND FOLLOW WHAT THEY SEE,INSTEAD OF WHAT THEY ARE TOLD…

  3. Government please introduce BOOT CAMP, for these troubled teenagers. Boot Camp, is where you take children for a REALITY CHECK, they want booze, you show them the impacts of it on your body and brain. Educate them on the negative consequences of sex, bring people who are infected on their death beds, for them see first hand, FOR THOSE UNPLANNED BABIES, give them live model babies ,(LIVE DUMMY BABIES THAT ARE BATTERY CHARGED WITH SLIGHT HUMAN EMOTIONS) (YOU CAN GET THEM FROM AMERICA) these babies will need feeding, changing, and love, humans are helpless when they are born, which is why babies need 100% of your time as a parent. This can be emotional, physically , and mentally tasking. Sometimes resulting in POSTPARTUM STRESS DISORDER. (Being CLINICALLY DEPRESSED) . I dont think a…

  4. I dont think a woman who loves DISCO, KEEPING UP APPEARANCES and DRINKING or did not plan for the baby ,later on a teenager can manage these these life changing experiences.. Please teach the children and some of these parents well ba government.
