One man has been shot dead and three others beaten severely by suspected cattle rustlers who got away a herd of cattle in Libonda area of Kalabo District in Western Province
Both Kalabo Police officer in Charge Godwin Kanema Libonda area Ward Councillor Wamunyima Kaitwa confirmed the incident in separate interview.
Mr Libonda said police in the area was on the ground investigating the matter before the culprits are brought to book.
And Mr. Kaitwa on his part said that the incident took place around 20:00 hours last night at Linuu village .
He named the deceased as Batuke Batuke of Imwambo village who was a herd man who was accompanied by three of his colleagues before his death .
The Councillor explained that the rustlers had earlier tied two herdsmen after badly beating them before shooting one dead.
He said the cattle rustlers were armed with AK47 riffles and are suspected to be from a named neighbouring country .
Councillor Kaitwa has since appealed to ministry of Home Affairs to deploy more officers at Libonda police Post as the station only has one Officer.
The only country in the world where a foreigner can come and comit such a gruesome crime and get away with it. In another country, the ambassador of the offending country could have been summoned by his/her host government with a demand to extradite the perpetrator

The incident of rustling and a death makes sad reading my hope is that investigative wings will do a thorough job to get the thugs!
Over a number of years I have noted the misplaced usage of the word “HERD” by journalists. Every time one comes across a report of cattle being stollen a given number is followed by the word herd! The word herd is obviously misunderstood by many a journalist! I believe the word they wish to use is “head” i.e. the heading should read, quote; “Zambia: Cattle rustlers kill a farmer, get away with TEN HEADS of cattle” unquote…. A herd is in itself made up of a large number of animals thus ten heads can run into hundreds or thousands of animals depending on what population defines the herd!
Pardon me last sentence above correction:……. “thus ten herds can run into…………” not ten heads!
What ? You are actually suggesting the same heading. What are you correcting in the heading?

@Kaluwa, rustling can take place even where people are affluent. Some people are used to stealing even when jobs are available. Don’t use poverty as an excuse to commit crime.
