Solwezi District Council appeals to residents to observe hygienic standards

Share

Solwezi District council  in Northwestern province has appealed to residents  for  strict adherence to hygienic standards as the rains intensify.

Solwezi municipal council public relations officer, Thandiwe Tembo says one of the ways of achieving this is by utilizing skip bins which her council has provided.

ZANIS reports that  MsTembo said in an interview today that the council has provided skip bins in markets and bus stations where the the general public is expected to throw litter in observance of hygiene.

The council has taken the responsibility of emptying and cleaning the skip bins twice each day.

However, these efforts are frustrated by people who do not observe cleanliness and throw out litter anyhow exposing people to water borne diseases, she said.

She strongly warned that with rains now intensifying, cholera and other diseases may breakout if people continue to ignore and dispose of waste in undesignated places.

Ms Tembo cited Kyawama market as one such places with poor waste disposal.

  1. Which skip bins is PRO talking about? “The council has taken the responsibility of emptying and cleaning the skip bins twice each day”. Where PRO??? If you go to Kyawama right now you would be afraid if you see the mess which is there! Its really pathetic to see our markets in that state. Where is the Council? We want a Council that can perform/or implement than giving false reports. Where are you Kyawama Counselor to take up this responsibility. Go on the ground at kyawama market and see for your self. Be sincere. Leah.

  2. This council is the council with the most useless people, who don’t serve the community but buy vehicles for themselves. they are very corrupt, the township roads are not maintained. they got money from people to say they are opening a new township in 2012 up to now people have not received plots in Humphrey Mulemba..

Talkin of the town theirs is dust (mud) all over because of this reckless people, the new Deputy mayor used to work for the council and he was fired because of corruption and now the corrupt person has come back as deputey mayor.. shame

  3. Really i don’t know what Ms. Tembo is talking about. i have never seen any truck collecting garbage from the skip bins. the council has failed us. the other day i saw a shameless ”tax collector” collecting money from people using that dilapidated toilet in town which is not even enough to accommodate the rising population in Solwezi. the taps and pipes are all broken in that toilet. my question is how much is a tap compared to the money the council collects from people on a daily basis? GUYS PLEASE LETS IMPROVE.
