Copperbelt Minister Bowman Lusambo has directed that the impending retirement of around 140 workers at Ndola Lime Limited in Ndola be put on hold.
Mr Lusambo who is also Kabushi Member of Parliament made the directive on Monday morning when he phoned management officials at Ndola Lime and ZCCM-IH, the major shareholders in the company.

He said concerns from all stakeholders including the Mine Workers Union of Zambia should be taken on board before any decision is made.
“The moment this information was bought to the attention of my office as Copperbelt Minister, I immediately phoned the CEO at ZCCM-IH and the Director at Ndola Lime and directed them that no further action is taken until we meet and agree on how we can address the issues surrounding this matter,” he said.

Mr Lusambo directed that all steps have to be followed in line with the country’s labour laws if any retrenchments are to be effected.
He said President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has always insisted that layoffs should be the last resort for any company.

Mr Lusambo has since assured workers at Ndola Lime Limited to continue working as Government is intervening in the matter.
He has also cautioned employers to desist from retrenching workers especially around the festive period and ensure that everything else is done to mitigate the situation if such layoffs are to effected.

steps have to be followed on the other hand the president insists that layoff should be the last resort, interesting!

    • Should this be coming from this man or from Labour Minister

Either way – I am starting to dislike this Lusambao.
He is too ambitious for my liking

      Thanks

  2. Finally they are acting to improved Ndola LIme. A company own by ZCCM-IH (zambian) that have been losing money every year with too many employees.

  3. Who decided last resort status? Dununa Reverse ……it will come and people will be laid off, while I sympathize with my brothers and sisters at Ndola Lime.

Ask that ugly man and what he promised the poeple of Luanshya?

    • As long as you criticize without offering solutions, people will never take you seriously. You will remain in opposition forever singing Dununa regret.Start campaigning and sell your vision to the masses in PF’s strongholds…..and start strategising now.Everything that’s happening should be ammunition to get you more votes in there strongholds..but alas..all you show is simply bitterness and anger…Nowonder Grade 9’s and Drunkards continously outsmart you..change your strategy,Approach & everything if you must! You may lose momentum with your Hate towards Chagwa.Someone might just overtake you if not careful ba upnd…we’ve seen such things happen. So Careful with your useless rhetoric.

  4. Political Interference in the operations of a company was the nemesis of the mighty ZCCM. Every time the management made a politically unsound but operationally sound decision, KK and his cohorts intervened. This went on for years until ZCCM was brought to its socks. Now, another ignoramus is following the same trend.

    • HOW DOES LUSAMBO EXPECT TO PAY THESE PEOPLE? WHEN A COMPANY GOES BUST THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT INTERFERE. AS THE SAINT HAS SAID POLITICAL INTERFERENCE SHOULD BE AVOIDED. OVEREMPLOYEMENT IS THE BIGGEST CAUSE OF ALL THIS.

  5. Look at him…why go to university in Zambia when a stone throwing vulgar thug like Bowman can have a big office, a driver, a vehicle, house all paid for by the taxpayer….really laughable!!

  6. @madam mushota and jay jay,why should you hate this man.am not a fun for BL but so far I have not seen anything wrong with his statement or would you be happy to see our brothers and sisters facing Early retrenchments with this hard economy?no ba guy.

    • so what should they do if their income/revenue cannot cover their operational costs? Its painful but sometimes envitable to save the company. When the company’s performance improves, it would be better to re employ them since they already have the experience.

  7. I think Bowman should be commended for his courage and attitude to work. So far, he has made a lot of headways in the province especially on issues of corruptly acquisitions of land.
