MMD Youths have demanded for a clear explanation from ZESCO Managing Director Victor Mundende on why 5 Directors were fired from the utility company.
MMD Youth Chairperson Dauzen Tembo said there is need for the Managing Director to tell the nation why those people were unceremoniously fired from the company.
Mr Tembo said ZESCO belongs to Zambians hence decisions such as the one made to get rid of the 5 Directors should be communicated to the owners of the company so that they know whether the decision was made in their best interest.
He also wondered why Zambians have not been to told what the 5 Directors did as the number was to high for it to be just swept under the rags and continue with business as if nothing has happened.
Meanwhile the Anti-Corruption Commission is said to be hot on the heels of Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) Managing Director Victor Mundende.
Mundende is allegedly being investigated for the purchase of second hand utility Toyota Land cruiser vehicles.
ZESCO is said to have paid for the second hand vehicles at the price of brand new vehicles.
The second hand vehicles are said to have allegedly been bought from Dubai using Lusaka Businessman, David Nama’s firm.
Following the dissolution of the Board and the dismissal of Directors at ZESCO, Mundende is in fight of his life to survive and ward-off an arrest and potential dismissal.
On Friday, Mundende unleashed over 10 policemen to search the house and farm of his former Director of Human Resources Lastone Mumba who he suspects is the whistle blower and potential witness in the corruption at ZESCO.
The officers that stormed Mumba’s residence claim he was suspected of being in possession of “classified material” documents related to the shady and dodgy procurements at ZESCO.
Mundende shocked the nation when he fired all management directors without giving any formal explanation or reasons.

Why does Mundende want to throw his anger on Laston Mumba for his own shortcomings.
He must just defend his actions if he has flouted procedures as MD of the firm.
I think that he could complicate his matters by trying to openly pursue ways of covering up.
So Mr Mundende, please leave Mumba alone, unless your efforts are suggesting that he is the one who was involved in what you are being implicated or investigated on.
Don’t vent anger on innocent Laston just to cover up wrongs.
This why corruption can not be stamped out…when you whistle blow, you become a suspect….the vehicles are there to checked whether they are new…
Truth is stubborn, it will still come out no matter how much cover is put around it. So let’s wait and see.

This is the same ploy that bowman used though and I suppose with this self imposed title will likely be given the same credence.

Zesco is a top-heavy organisation. There is so much dupication of work. There are too many directors and managers who consume most of the resources at the expense of the lower level workforce which does most of the work. We need reforms at Zesco. It has also over-employed. There are too many PF cadres who were given jobs without proper qualifications. Minsiters’ children and relatives also are occupying many positions in Zesco. The firm is inefficient partly because of all these problems.

Hiring and firing can not be a Party issue. The issue is essentially a ZESCO issue and MD is its boss. The MD is answerable to the Board of Directors. The BoD gets policy directives from the Ministry of Energy. Period. Or are you expressing personal and humanitarian concerns? Seeking legal redress is right response. It seems that the youngsters do not understand their political mandate.

It is true, ZESCO needs cleansing, procurement staff are corrupt and they have been giving orders to the people they know, they even disclose reserved bidding prices to them. It is either, they are their girl friends. So these people need the sacking as soon as possible.

Laston Mumba was HR Director, he hired his relatives and girlfriends, even left his wife. He got fired for mismanaging the HR department. The police visited his home because he hired cadres to disrupt ZESCO meeting, he even collapsed and was admitted at Victoria hospital because he was shocked to realize that his political connections couldn’t protect him. He just needs to go quietly, he didn’t deserve to be director, he isn’t qualified. And please, he needs to stop lying to his concubines that he will be permanent secretary soon. He thought he was invisible, and he thought he was more powerful than the MD!!!!

The public needs to know with the 5, what happens at ZESCO affects every one in zed its the engine of beloved mother Zambia. You can’t fire 5 Directors and expect the public to say y’all its cool thats whats up, Hell NO MD put on your big boy pants and tell the nation.
Now concerning the purchase of those vehicles if its true the are second hand the guy should be fired ZESCO needs new vehicles but again if its true he paid more than they are supposed to be he should be arrested
