Republican President and Patriotic Front (PF) Leader Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu has pardoned all former PF members who contested as Independent Members of Parliament. And has welcomed them back to PF.

The President was speaking on his arrival at the Kalulushi Airstrip on his Copperbelt tour of duty. President Lungu said all former PF members who stood as Independent Members of Parliament including Hon Mutale Mwila of Chimwemwe and the gentleman who defeated the Secretary General Mr Davies Mwila in Chipili Constituency of Luapula Province have all been pardoned.

“Where is the Secretary General. Please note that I have with immediate effect pardoned all former PF members who stood as Independent MPs including Honourable Mwila of Chimwemwe and the young man who defeated you in Chipili. I have pardoned all of them,” said President Lungu.

President Lungu has further directed all members of the Patriotic Front to welcome back and embrace all independent members of Parliament who have been pardoned. The President has said all the Party will not fail to identify among the Independent MPs who are loyal PF members and the ones who belong to the opposition.

“It will be easy for us to distinguish our loyal and true members among the independent MPs. The genuine PF members among them will listen to our voice,” he added.

  1. PARDONED?!!!! WHAT CRIME ARE THEY GUILTY OF? SO ASPIRING TO BE AN INDEPENDENT MP IS NOW A CRIME? PARDONED???!!! LOL

  2. “Republican President and Patriotic Front (PF) Leader Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu…”.

Why do we address the President of Zambia as “Republican President”?

    • Zambia is a Republic. GRZ = Government of the Republic of Zambia. Definition: republic /r??p?bl?k/
(noun) a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch.

But you are right, since Lungu was not duly elected, it is absurd to call him Republican president.

  3. @clueless, when we say that Lungu’s brains have been destroyed by Jameson, this is what we mean. What crimes did the independent MPs commit for sure? Independent MPs are part & parcel of any democracy. Let Lungu account for the Malawi maize gate scandal.

  4. Pardoned for what? Is it illegal for one to stand as an independent? There is nothing like pardoning or not pardoning.

  5. I am an independent MP and I sought no pardon neither do I seek any pardon. Why do people give themselves powers they don’t have. The President has no powers of this pronouncement because there is no offence. That’s why you see a President naming an airport and people think he has powers to do so when he has none.

  6. Simply put ,when someone is a member of a political party and say at the time of adoptions. they not adopted, these are thought to have left the party because they were not adopted ,these can be considered to have left the party and either they win or lose, they can not freely come back to associate with the party, which I believe they want to,I see nothing wrong to offer a blanket pardon to all including those who lost and still want to be part of the PF but mighty be feeling unwanted.

  7. Southern chiefs have stood up against this administration and that is a sign of good leadership. This should be awake up call for the administration and change the way of doing things. I hope the international Donors and world bank will stand behind the southern chiefs.

    • Yours is one of the most callus statements this year. So you want my brothers and sisters in the southern province to go hungry this year? International community and donors are only interested in our nation’s natural resources, do not think the care about you. Go and seat some where and think for yourself.

  8. I like having independent MPs. It is sign that Zambians in some places make up their own minds, unlike whom ever voted in southern province and Luapula province.

  9. But when it comes to Miles and Mulenga he says its not up to him…what a coward of a man…take them back also…really laughable!!

  10. “Where is the Secretary General. Please note that I have with immediate effect pardoned all former PF members who stood as Independent MPs including Honourable Mwila of Chimwemwe and the young man who defeated you in Chipili. I have pardoned all of them,” President Lungu was wrong for saying that hahahahaha.

  11. @nzelu
The only country that can have interest in zambia’s natural resources is the country, that does not respect human rights. No country, that respects human rights will allow their leaders to get natural resources from administrations that they don’t share values with.

    • Saudi Arabia has the worst human rights record outside of the west, they have billions of dollars of investment pouring in every year. Please try again.

  12. So, the Country should brace itself for 14 by-elections? The MPs had crossed the Floor to become Independents. They simply cannot cross back as MPs without by-elections!

Power corrupts and corrupts absolutely! What power does Lundu have to ‘pardon’ the independent MPs?
