PRESIDENT Lungu says he will not condone tribalism in the management of State affairs.

Mr Lungu has also urged youths appointed to higher offices to be ambassadors of their counterparts and work hard to encourage appointing authorities to appoint more young people to positions of leadership.

Speaking when he swore in Chanda Kabwe as Central Province permanent secretary, the President said he will not subscribe to tribalism or regionalism in his appointments and deployment of Government officers.

The President said he appoints people on merit and deploys them to areas where he thinks they will serve well regardless of their ethnicity.

“I am saying so because one chief from Central Province is reported to have questioned the appointment of Mr Kabwe because he (Kabwe) does not come from there,” President Lungu said.

Mr Lungu expressed shock at the traditional leader’s objection to the appointment and has summoned him to discuss the matter.
He called on chiefs to maintain the ‘One Zambia one nation’ motto “in thought and in deed” as they are in direct contact with the people.

The President said the ‘One Zambia one nation’ motto “is here to stay” as Zambia is bigger than one group of people, tribe and ethnicity.

“Go there and serve them to the best of your ability and show them that you are one of them,” the President instructed Mr Kabwe.

Mr Lungu said everyone has relations with ethnicity in one way or another because the country has tribes, but this does not mean that people should be confined to places they originated from.

The head of State called on the House of Chiefs to find time to carry out introspection to avoid becoming a vehicle for dividing people.

“There are good traditional leaders and some who are becoming an embarrassment to the tradition of chiefdoms,” he said.
Mwanwhile, House of Chiefs chairperson Senior Chief Ntambu commended the President for encouraging unity in the country.
Chief Ntambu said chiefs should not encourage tribalism as this can breed division in the country.

“As chiefs we are ready to hold meetings to encourage unity and oneness except we are short of resources right now,” he said.
Meanwhile, President Lungu has urged youths appointed to higher offices to be ambassadors of the youth and work hard to encourage Government to appoint more young people to positions of leadership.

The President said his confidence in the youths will be eroded if young people like Mr Kabwe who are appointed to high offices disappoint him.

“I think you deserve the appointment, but if you let me down, my confidence in the youths who we are trying to groom and hand over the mantle of leadership to will be eroded,” he said.

And speaking in an interview with journalists, Mr Kabwe thanked the President for appointing him and pleaded to work hard to encourage the appointment of more young people to high positions.

Mr Kabwe said he will work with all stakeholders including chiefs to develop Central Province.

“We will look at the potential which Central Province has and use it to bring life to the province,” he said.

Mr Kabwe also promised to improve service delivery in the province and fight corruption to fulfil government policies.

  1. Is this the same Chanda Kabwe who was patron of the Presidential marketeers empowerment fund? He seemed to be more in the limelight than doing the actual work?

    • Lungu, stop playing to the gallery. Would it be a lie that if you took an audit of the Local and the Central Government Administrations (Councils and the Civil Service) in Western, Southern and North-western Provinces, you will find that most Heads of Deaprtments are either Bembas or Nyanjas and yet only a few years ago, these were least educated groups of people compared to the ‘Jews of Zambia’ the Lozis and the Tongas? And what do you call that Lungu, isn’t Tribalism? Today you enter any government department in Choma, Mongu, Solwezi and even little towns as Sesheke, the greeting you receive is either in Bemba or Nyanja and depending on which which one of the three provinces you are, when you ask these officers to greet you in one of the local languages, their response is ‘ the…

    • …..contd. For example, i once asked a Bemba friend which language would he find earsier to learn between Lozi and Sesesotho and without hesistation he said Sesethoto without him realizing that Lozi and Sotho are the same! Thats how aloof Bembas and Nyanjas carry themselves in Zambia today. Its not like the old days of the late Mr Pardon Katongo (MHRIP).

    • Visionless Lungu is merely yapping about tribalistic sentiments. Kambwili, Davies Chama, Frank Bwalya & Mumbi Phiri etc who are chiefs of tribalism are still breathing in PF. If Lungu means well, he would have chased them bandits out of visionless PF.
Like always said, violent PF bandits & blind Edgar are full of opposites. In other words Dagama is saying he will condone tribalism in the management of the country, simple.
By the way, how much is mealie meal today after blind Lungu’s “fruitful meeting with the millers” yesterday?
      The Skeleton Key
      ~206~

    • Folks I have always said what ever comes out of a PF minion, the direct opposite is the truth.

Even a 7 year old kid now knows that certain positions in power are reserved for certain cadres from a certain tribe.

I will make all these pay when my time to rule Zambia comes soon.

    • Mr.ECL, before saying this “will not subscribe to tribalism or regionalism in his appointments and deployment of Government officers.”, you should have firstly clarified what you meant when during the elections you mentioned that you were not going to develop any region that was not going to vote for you, do you remember?
If that is not explained, then uttering such sentences as above, becomes contradictory. And we can not believe in what you say, later on, the same Chiefs are just doing what you said during election. Why should they have someone else other than someone from their region. It is the same analogy.

    • This PF president and the one b4 him have redefined the meaning of tribalism at the rate we are going these characters have permanently damaged the harmony of this country they are not different from the Somali war lords.

    • Don’t make the chiefs the scapegoats. You, the politicians are the culprits. You are the architects and perpetrators of tribalism in Zambia.

    • Wamene uyu talabolism azatipaya. Rupiah supported you on tribal lines. He didn’t support Sata so how come you? Nauja waku Daily Nation kawalala Sakala used to attack PF everyday but after his tribesman took over as president he outdid a chameleon in changing colour. And what can we say about Petauke MP who ran away from Mumba for a fellow tribe’s mate?

  2. The same Kabwe who was found with a national registration card machine at his house? And why didn’t the president complain about the attacks on Tongas by Kambwili, Mumbi, Chama, Frank et al?

  3. Look who is talking? Who is dismissing Tonga civil servants from their jobs then? Always look to Lungu to do the opposite of whatever he says.

    • @4.2 Edward Museveni, I can name Hamukale as a Minister in Lungu’s government. Now, name a single Tonga elected PF MP who Lungu left out of appointment? I can show you Siamunene and Greyford Monde as victims of tribal politics who were once Ministers but were voted out for their association with Lungu and PF,non Tongas!

    • Yes the two were victimized for accepting to serve Zambia in defiance of the tribe oath. Besides Lungu has appointed local people as provincial ministers as nominated MPS since these areas “denied ” him MPs. Aba tabakwete ifya kulanda

  4. my only worry is the effect that this appointment of cadres to position of PS is doing to civil servants who have served this country for many more years and are suitable and have the necessary experience to be PS by now. Doesn’t the president think that may be part of the reasons why we have an increase in auditor’s report of mal-practices and mis-appropriation could be attributed to having PS’s who are not experienced? i can imagine a man who thought he could be PS being introduced to a new young man who is not really experienced in civil service but politics taking over, he may just resign to the fact that he will just watch whether his boss makes mistakes or not.

  5. Since when did people squat for a photo at state house? That is why there are those steps, so that the tall and the short ones can all stand and appear in the same photo. I blame the photographer for making people in suits squat like footballers. The looks kinda silly to me.

  6. Soon they will be no chiefdoms in Zambia. Don’t ask me when. This will be when a new nation called R.S.A (Republic of Southern Southern Africa) takes over, and Southern African nations shall be one. Peace is what we preach and God commands a blessing over a peaceful nation.

    • That is some forward thinking and good statement on chiefdoms. I agree that they are a backwardization of the country. But on the union, that is basically making SADC more like the EU and it could work but people would still need to retain their national heritages and a lot of sovereignty. One other issue is that the aspect of open boarders is hard for developed countries, South Africa or Botswana to stomach and this could not work on that regard. To fight tribalism, a generational change is needed. People in our time have friends who come from all groupings and are well exposed to know that we have no choice in picking tribe- dying for tribe degrades one below the level ISIS because in religion, at least there is some degree of choice.

  7. Only cadres will believe this man. Civil servants from certain regions are being pugged and without shame he speaks to the nation like that.

  8. When did he appoint someone from Southern in Northern or Luapula? It is never tribalism when people from certain regions are appointed to regions they don’t hail from & it is always the same people being appointed most of the time all over the country.

    • @10 Naomi, when he had appointed Chimbwali as PS for Luapula and Patrick Mwanawasa as Deputy PS for Eastern Province- Just a few examples!

  9. @ MWENDANJANGULA,yes he is pugging those that are not agreeing with his principles. Those that are always against him and leaking state secrets.Find out what has been happening and what those pugged did before you write things you are not sure about.I wonder, is Kambwili from that region you are talking about as well?

  10. When it suits him lungu fans tribalism using the likes of FB and the dismissed kambwili.

Lungu is the biggest hypocrite ever.

  11. This sick boy lungu is a clown. While his ministers have gone on to tribally attack tongas non of them have been dismisses on those grounds. As I said lungu and pf have cursed themselves. Slowly they will start dying one by one.

  12. State house camera men must improve official photographs. They look awkward: others kneeling in suits, others with handbags, others in tshirts, etc. They should take a leaf from official state house photos in Kenya: very orderly.

  13. Central province is cosmopolitan : You have Kabwe which has the “entire zambia ” and various tribes ranging from Tonga related (Lenje) and Bemba related (Lala) .Lusambo ‘s appointment has nothing to do with his tribe, but his character which suits the copperbelt roughness.

    • ‘Lusambo’s appointment has nothing to do with tribe, but his character which suits the copperbelt roughness.’ So that’s how he qualifies for the position? Indeed this is PF. Kikiki.

    • @shot put. Copperbelt is not for the faint hearted. Even in Unip days it was people like Alexander Kamalondo who were able to run the province. Lusambo is a “rough diamond ” he combines brains and. “pusher ” mentality.

  14. LUNGU is the biggest tribalist himself & does not hide it. You find BEMBAS & NYANJAS being appointed to plenty senior positions in North-Western Rhodesia but have u ever heard of a Lamba, Swaka, Luvale, Tonga being appointed to a senior position in N/E Rhodesia?

Our brothers are being retired whilst some are in prison (Mwaliteta & plenty others) becoz of the influx & excessive breeding of BEMBAS & NYANJAS into NWR (especially C/belt & LSK). Why not develop your own area with your own sweat instead of breeding & migrating En-Masse into NWR?

LAMBAS need to take back C/Belt from BEMBAS
SWAKAS need to take back KABWE from BEMBAS
SOLIS need to take back LSK from NYANJAS & BEMBAS
NYANJAS & BEMBAS Need to develop their own provinces, not using monies from Solwezi Mines.

    • @Maloza, we Lambas and Swakas are part of the Bemba speaking block and we do amatebeto together. Do not sacrifice us Lambas and Swakas. We are stupid as you may think. We will remain united with the Bembas because we know them and we are part of them. Please leave us out of your tribalism. We are not NWR and we will never be terrorists like you. Just stick to your bantustan tribal politics.

    • @Bibo, you do not know your history & doubt u r actually Lamba. Lambas or Swakas are NOT Bemba & their history is unique from the Bemba. Don’t be colonized by Bembas & get comfortable with it.

I’ve lived among Lambas & they are generally very humble people in nature BUT it does not mean they are stupid. The population of Lambas on the Copperbelt has now been overtaken by over 10 to 1 by Bembas whilst the Lambas live in abject poverty in Masaiti, Lufwanyama. Same applies to Solis in Lusaka.

Copperbelt is rich in Copper & emeralds but if you look at Chief Nkana’s of Chief Mushili’s palace, you’ll be so disappointed. WAKE UP!

    • @Maloza- I think you are backward- what is there to take back when these are now largely cosmopolitan towns? Most farmland is owned by government and that which is not is owned by foreigners. You are trying to vilify the Bembas, Lungu is not Bemba. You worship chiefs, chiefdoms should be abolished as they pioneered great evils like child marriages, witchcraft and all other vices. When you criticize Lungu, criticize him because his policies are not working and not because of his ethnic grouping or that of people who are lenient to his cause. All these things you mention about taking over the Copperbelt, the Copperbelt is circular and people from all tribes worked at the mines, no wonder no political party particularly does so poorly on the Copperbelt.

    • Maloza you’re the one who don’t know history. All tribes except for Tongas and Ngonis and to some extent Lozi and Chokwe have one origin. Besides all Zambia is endowed with copper and other minerals. It was because KK didn’t want us to make mining our mainstay otherwise we would have mines all over the place. Don’t forget there are you people who are settled and comfortable in those places you despise. Please don’t argue from emotions.

    • @Maloza, What did Mwanawasa do to improve the lot of the Lufwanyama which is endowed with emeralds? He’s Lamba but all he was asking when as VP visited Kalulushi was about how one can tell an emerald bearing rock from an ordinary rock. Ati Chief Nkana, when your don’t even where the place is.

    • @Maloza, take a hint from the news below. I told you that we Lambas and Swakas are not part of your NWR. Please leave us alone.

By Alfarson Sinalungu And Amos Malupenga

Lusaka — CHIEF Mukonchi of the Swaka people of Kapiri Mposhi district in the Central Province has ordered all the Tonga speaking people in the chiefdom to leave for allegedly undermining him and his subjects.

But local government and housing minister Sylvia Masebo has advised chief Mukonchi to consider other ways of resolving the conflict and not to banish all the Tonga speaking people in his area for the sake of national harmony and unity.

    • @19Maloza, we know that UPND under HH has been on a recruitment drive for tribalism against Bembas and has won on his part North Westerners, some Lambas and the obvious ones, Lozis . Like @19.1 Bimbo has said,What you may not know is that Lambas are more ethnically closer to Bembas than Tongas and Lozis. Even Kaondes share same origins with Bembas and sometimes they share even names e.g Kanyembo,Musonda,Mumba etc are found among Bemba speakers and Kaondes! Swakas, like Lalas cannot so easily count themselves with Tongas and Lozis. Lambas, like Lalas and other Bemba speakers share origins and can be found in the Katanga province of the DRC. The same with NWesterners especially Lundas and Kaondes!

    • @ Bibo – You the master of your own destiny, NOT me, NOT anyone else. I’m NOT Tonga, so don’t give me news articles of your beef with Tongas. See map before Britons joined NER & NWR in 1911. wwwDOTwikipediaDOTorg/wiki/North-Western_Rhodesia

@ Ndanje khakis – Go ask Mwanawasa himself. I don’t currently reside or plan to settle in any of your areas. I have my own home, my own heritage. You are immortalizing KK becoz of nostalgia. He is the biggest mistake (economically) Zambia has ever had. His Nationalization of industries in 1972 actually killed manufacturing, agriculture, textile, tourism, mining etc. & led the country to be totally dependent on Copper to this day. It bred a lazy breed of people who feel entitled & wait for Govt to feed them. You were obviously not born by then.

    • Maloza you suffer from a combination of these, tribalism, myopia, emotional stress and dementia. Nowhere have I immortalized KK, I mentioned him because you cannot write ZAMBIAN history and omit him. 2) I didn’t ask you to settle in my area but it would be very interesting if in your bitterness could ask that big Tonga rancher in Muchinga to abandon his ranch and come “home ” I Choma.

    • @ Ndanje khakis Don’t be too LAZY to develop yourselves. Don’t wait for outsiders to develop you from poverty. Take a leaf from how the Bakwena Royal Establishment in RSA sued the Platinum mines & are now shareholders & beneficiaries of their mineral wealth. Not those handouts from Mopani to Chief Nkana. Don’t have a grasshopper mentality as the Born-agains say.

      – How could KK start up mines all over the place when he was failing to run ZCCM?
      – Ati “ask that big Tonga rancher in Muchinga to abandon his ranch and come “home ” I Choma” – PLEASE, GO ASK HIM YOURSELF!!!

    • Maloza the way you evade questions makes me believe you don’t believe in what you post. Anyway thanks for the day’s exchanges that we’ve had.

    • Maloza the way you evade questions makes me believe you don’t believe in what you post. Anyway thanks for the day’s exchanges that we’ve had.

  15. @sinono and Maloza; agree with you. The so called Zed musicians now sing one word in English, 2 words in Bemba and 2 words in Nyanja for the same song. The so called Zed film does the same. They would rather sing in South African or Swahili than sing in other Zed languages. Lungu is lying

    • Grow up- perhaps become a musician and sing anything else. Music only sells in Lusaka and Copperbelt and those are the languages that predominate. The truth is that interaction between two citizens regardless of tribe is very cordial without malice, when people group in their tribes is when this is reinforced. Be objective and shun tribalism but do not identify tribalism where it does not exist.

  16. The truth is that tribalism is still rampant in government regardless who is in office. Zambia must unshackle themselves from tribal antics and remember that you have no choice in picking a tribe or grouping to which you are born. Tribalism is so silly and that is why chiefdoms must be abolished at all costs.

    • Yes, tribalism still flows freely through our veins and arteries. It’s still the pulse and the heartbeat of our hearts. Sadly so.

  17. Useless President_ When its campaign time you cherish Tribalists denouncing others , now you think any right- thinking person can take you serious>! HELL NO.!

The battle line was drawn, Its now each one for themselves , God for us all.

Each province should work hard to develop its own area.
Strangers will be treated with the trash they deserve.

    • @ KK Eleven. You will realise that it is your people who will suffer more. Take a hint from the news below.

    • You are backward and uneducated. All political parties in Zambia play the tribal card the only sad thing is that one unnamed party seems to be at the wrong end of it. If you do not want to be governed, you will be governed by force. There is no battle, and you are being hypocritical. You probably have friends of various tribes and you love these friends dearly such that you cannot want any harm, financial or physical to happen to them, imagine if they knew what you write behind closed doors? You are probably not even tribalist but you want to come out as one- remember the principles that you are taught at church, remember that you have no choice in what tribe you are, Zambia needs a generational change to stop tribalism, criticize Lungu but do not declare battles that do not exist.

    • Appointments are never 100% free of bias. Each president will consider “loyalty and history ” for any appointment. Donald Trump has just appointed his son in law as Chief Presidential Advisor. He’s to defend that appointment before a Senate.

  18. You are right St. Sweet…
I too hate Afrophobia. The likes of Maloza and KK, ala sivintu. They don’t realize that its their tribesmen who will suffer more.

  19. Charity begins at home. Should you want to stump out tribalism in Zambia, then start with yourself, your own people, your own appointments record. What was that we were reading recently that caused ire among Southern Province Chiefs? You think we don’t see, we don’t hear?

  20. Tribalism is backwardness any one who dwells on this vice will remain behind , it is a village concept only those in rural areas will agree with you .
When the world is becoming a small village you still want to reduce it to your volume of thinking backwardness allow people to be where they want .
Just imagine not every zambian is in zambia fighting for his province or tribe, if every one was thinking like you no one would even go to other nations for fear of people like villager who only of your tribe or village .
I would like advise some zambians that it is time to sprade your wings to sour far above your tribe and see what is beyond village .

  21. @ Nostradumas
Fish out from archives late president Sata’s cabinet comprising Bembas and Luapulas – shocking tribalist legacy left behind.

    • @26 MunaDekhane, that is where he had his MPs from! When he appointed Siamunene and Greyford Moonde you victimized them! This time Cornelius Mweetwa and Garry Nkombo were very clear that any UPND MP who will accept cabinet appointment would be dealt with. PF had to tell them they were looking to UPND to fill cabinet posts. Lungu has to nominate Hamukale bcoz he knew sending a Minister from another ethnic group to work in your province would have generated war with tribalists. Just look at the behavior after loosing an election;burning properties, injurying and displacing people from Bemba and Nyanja speaking ethnic groups! What is good for you? When you are included you don’t want, when excluded you fume!!

  22. Inauguration was in September and we are still appointing people. Let’s get to the business of actually running the country. Instead of issuing statements, as your slogan goes ‘sonta epowabomba’!

  23. SOMETIMES IT IS DISSAPOINTING TO READ ABOUT WHAT POLITICIANS SAY.I THINK THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT MR CHANDA KABWE IS A CADRE WHO IS NOT SUPPOSED TO RUN A CIVIL SERVICE OPERATION AT PERMANENT SECRETARY LEVEL.MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT PERM SEC POSITIONS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE RUN BY CIVIL SERVANTS NOT CADRES.I SUSPECT EVEN THE SO CALLED CHIEF BEING REFERED TO DID NOT OBJECT BASED ON TRIBE BUT ON THE CADER PART .MIND YOU CHIEFS ARE ALSO WATCHDOGS JUST LIKE NGOS.LET PIPO WHO ARE PROFESSIONALS BE APPOINTED TO RUN CIVIL SERVICE NOT CADRES . MR KABWE TO MY UNDERSTANDING IS A CADRE .JUST MY THOUGHT

  24. Boza. Why is it that you tolerate your ministers and PF officials when they issue tribal remarks? Kampyongo recently issued tribal remarks at UPND and you are at peace with those. We are watching. Please be impartial and inspire your people. We can see through your smooth talk Bwana.

  25. AND WAS IT NECESARY FOR THE PRESIDENT TO COME UP OPEN LIKE THAT.HE SHOULD JUST HAVE CALLED THE CHIEF DIPLOMATICALLY.NOT TALK ABOUT HIM ON ZNBC(ZABOZA NIZA BWINO CHANNEL ).THE CHIEF MAAY NOT EVEN BE COMFORTABLE TO DISCUSS WITH HIM WEN HE CALLS HIM/HER

  26. Why do we still appoint Permsecs from outside the Ministry? Why not elevate someone from within and motivate everyone in the Ministry?

  27. Chanda Kabwe is a typical cadre.PS should not be his position. He should have been Provincial PF chairman somewhere. A DC is supposed to be non-partisan but there he was, in the forefront celebrating after the concourt refused to hear HH’s petition.

  28. I used to respect Zambians to the core, NOT until i discovered that their minds are always overtaken by tribal superiority and tribal disposition. I have detected the same characteristics with Shonas, wanting to sell their language in RSA so that everyone must hear it is them speaking their language. NO psychology to think that you are in a foreign country therefore learning the language of the host country is even better. Very sad. Backwardness in high reverse gear. For Zambia, it is worse, because people who are supposed to be viewed as educated, professional and contributing to nation building are the most foolish tribal preachers.

  29. LAST LASTING COMMENT: pf is a bunch of cowards, what is the name of the chief? Don’t just say a certain chief, this and that, a leader of a certain political party, that and this…. Chief mukuni is right, you are cowards.
