FAZ ponders Super Division expansion

Share

Football House say the planned expansion of the FAZ Super Division from 18 to 20 teams is in its infancy stage.

The FAZ council is scheduled to table the proposed expansion of the top flight league at the next meeting.

FAZ President Andrew Kamanga said the association is still consulting stakeholders on the matter.

“Firstly, the AGM has to meet and confirm the proposed structure. It is up to the councilors to decide,” Kamanga said.

“Let’s not get ahead of us. Once the council resolve then what will remain is implementation. How we implement is a secondary issue,” Kamanga said.

The Super Division had 16 teams before the 2016 campaign.

“We are meeting Super League and Division One teams as part of stakeholder consultation. We have to look at the cost and quality of the league,” Kamanga added.

Lusaka Dynamos, Nakambala Leopards, Lusaka Tigers and Mufulira Blackpool were relegated to Division One at the end of the 2016 season.

  1. It doesn’t work that way in football, economy for the clubs decides over that. Much better if they can reduce it to 16 teams to make it more competitive

  2. SHOOTERZ THAT IS A VERY GOOD OBSERVATION.MOST OF THE CLUBS HAVE A LOT OF FINANCIAL CHALLENGES AND BY INCREASING THE NUMBER YOU ARE JUST SHOOTING THEM IN THE FOOT.FIRSTLY, THE ASSOCIATION SHOULD WORK ON CLUB LICENSING AND HOW THEY CAN ORGANISE THE LEAGUE SO THAT THEY HELP CLUBS ATTRACT MORE SPONSORSHIP.MOST OF THESE CLUBS THE SPONSORSHIP IS EXTREMELY POOR OR IS NOT EVEN THERE .WHERE PLAYERS GO WITHOUT BEING PAID BOTH THEIR SALARIES AND WINNING BONUSES.THIS IS WHAT THE ASSOCIATION SHOULD BE LOOKING AT CRITICALLY RATHER THAN INCREASE THE TEAMS NOT SCRUTISING WHO WILL BE ABLE TO FOOT VARIUOS BILLS INCLUDING THEIR OWN IN PENALTY FINES. INFACT IT SHOULD BE REDUCED TO 14 TO MAKE IT MORE COMPETITIVE AND ONLY FOR THOSE WHO HAVE THE CAPACITY TO PAY.

  3. They are already 16…you!!LOL… They want to increase to 20… I suggest they increase 18 or reduce to 14 teams…to make it more competitive….and strong..
