The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) has called for the immediate and unconditional release of Fred M’membe’s wife Mutinta and all those detained.

In a strongly worded statement, NUMSA General Secretary Irvin Jim said his union wants to launch a campaign to boycott Zambian goods and to end South African trade with Zambia.

Mr Jim has also revealed that the union wants to launch mounting protest action outside the Zambian embassy in South Africa.

He said the union is also calling on all its sister unions to expose what has become a police state and a brutal regime of President Lungu.

Below is the full statement

NUMSA Condemns the Attack on Media Freedom in Zambia

16 February 2017

On behalf of the more than 340,000 members of National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA), and indeed on behalf of more than 21,000,000 South African Workers’ we want to register our extreme concern over the continued harassment of the independent media in Zambia and on Comrade Fred M’membe and his wife and all the workers of The Post Newspaper.

A warrant of arrest has been issued for Comrade M’membe.

Our information confirms that his wife and several workers connected to The Zambian Post Newspaper have been arrested. What is extremely worrying is the violent raid on his house by scores of armed police.

We have no doubt that the intentions behind the latest violent assault on Comrade M’membe’s family and workers of The Post are aimed at shutting down The Mast Newspaper and eliminating the most irksome independent voice to President Edgar Lungu, his Patriotic Front party and their followers.

The ruthless persistency and violence with which M’membe and The Post have been pursued by the Lungu government are impossible to defend. The allegations that the paper is not registered with the Zambian Revenue Authority are bogus and malicious.

These political objectives are very clear even to the most fanatical Patriotic Front and Lungu supporter.

It is clear for all to see that the Patriotic Front is determined to eliminate The Post Newspaper, and Fred M’membe himself by any means necessary.  Obviously this is an attack on freedom of the press, which is the cornerstone of any democratic society.

As the working class we have a revolutionary duty to prevent the rise of tyranny in any of our countries.

We have a responsibility to defend and advance democracy, human rights and full human freedom. We have a duty to defend and advance the interests of justice.

It is time for the working class in all sectors to rise in defense of Democracy. NUMSA calls on workers in the transportation industry; workers in the import and export industry; workers in the public sector; workers in the security cluster; all workers must unite and fight against the rise of tyranny in the sub-region of the continent. We must fight to protect democracy in Africa.

NUMSA calls on the New Federation; the United Front and all working class organizations all over the world to demand an audit of Zambian trade with other countries that include South Africa.

NUMSA wants to launch a campaign to boycott Zambian goods and to end South African trade with Zambia.

This includes mounting protest action outside the Zambian embassy in South Africa. We are calling on all our sister unions to expose what has become a police state and a brutal regime of President Lungu.

We pledge our solidarity with all the working class and socialist forces in Zambia in general, and to the Socialist Party of Zambia in particular. We also extend our support to comrade Fred and The Post, during this tough time.

To President Lungu of Zambia we demand the following:

  1. Stop, forthwith, the harassment of Comrade Fred, his wife and workers of The Post.
  2. Fred M’membe’s wife and all those detained must be released, immediately and unconditionally.
  3. The warrant of arrest for Fred M’membe must be withdrawn immediately.
  4. Ensure that Zambian tax authorities comply with the order to have The Post opened and operating normally, and to allow for the normal resolutions of the tax matters between the two parties.
  5. The Mast must operate normally, without hindrance or harassment.

These demands are all well within the powers and duties of the President of Zambia, who in effect has sworn to protect all Zambians.

As the working class of this African sub region, we reserve the right to adopt whatever campaigns and measures to ensure that we advance and entrench a culture of democracy, protection of human rights, defend justice and prevent the rise of tyranny. This is not an idle threat; it is a timely warning!

Irvin Jim

NUMSA General Secretary

  1. As days go by Zambia under pf is becoming more and more like a typical dictatorship. When foreign countries start threatening to issue bans and embargos then you know things are gloom. To all those pf cadres in denial of Zambia been a lost cause please do us a favour and cross great east without looking. Lungu is a pillock that needs to go

    • Zambians helped South Africa during apartheid. Its time they helped us too.
Shut down mines, ShopRite, Supersport all should boycott.

    • 21 million US is what Fred is up against…as much as I don’t agree with a ton of PF nonsense, we need to pay our taxes and Fred knows that…Mutinta sliver spoon mentality has gotten her in trouble and these South Africans have been poisoned by good old Fred! Fred miscalculated and God has shown us how wise Fred is!

    • We thank NUMSA for speaking out on behalf of Zambians on lack of democracy in our country…. We live in a Police State, we can not hold demonstrations, protest or speak out on injustices without risking being shot by police, arrested or beaten.

      Bravo comrade Irvin Jim!

    • Unions work in SA not here baba. There is no fair trade between zambia and sa. If his mine had trade with the m’membes, we will get him also.

    • @NEZ

I am proud of what South African ujion has done. In a way it is also sending a clear message to Zuma that if he continues to copy f00lishness from Zim Zam and Uga they will rise up against him.

Man Ka lungu is not becoming a dictator ,he is already a full blown dictator endangering lives of all people in Zambia.

Now what we must do as Zambians is agitate this f00lish PF regime to relinguish the power it stole from HH or else the country will burn slowly to extinction.

I warn Lungu again to stop taking Zambians for granted or his regime and his life will not end well.

      VIVA UPND.

    • I applaud the support, but the question that immediately comes to my mind is why the South African Mining Union (and not the independent media in South Africa) are championing this matter?

I tell you proper so you become wise.

Lungu in his desperation to cling onto ill-gotten power has by hounding Mmembe and the Post / Mast indirectly created 300 and a bit jobs for the South African mining industry. The 300 and a bit trucks owed by the then Post went “into hiding” in South Africa and are currently hired for a few very good coins by the mining industry thereby creating 300 very good jobs for South Africans. These were ZAMBIAN jobs, inadvertently exported to Suid Afric by yours truly Vodiga Rungu and fellow clueless, power-hungry bandits.
So whom ever will be making a tally of how…

    • its embarrassing to come from a country where other country citizens are protesting outside your embassy. OMG, we have become Zimbabwe.

    • You lie: you definitely do not know what dictatorship is and appears like. You should research in detail both within and outside the SADC region then you will appreciate what police brutality and dictatorship is. You should be thankful sometimes that Zambia has so much peace to date to an extent that the whole country can be quite without both a President and Cabinet for 30 days and nothing happens. Even those who won an election are so patient to allow the law to finalize its processes. Be thankful guys honestly.

    • Just as much as I don’t approve of many things that Lungu does, and I believe that he’s extremely mediocre and does a lousy job, I think that The POST crew need to account for their part in the issue. The fact that they failed to pay their fair share of taxes makes them unpatriotic, in a way. And then opening up the MAST just seems like a further attempt to evade the law. The bottom line is — these guys ought to pay taxes like everyone else. In other words, if you want to be a successful critic of a government, you should make sure you eliminate your weaknesses which the government may want to capitalize on to stop you. And in this case, the POST’s weakness was taxes. And thus the PF capitalized on it. NUMSA seems completely biased in their calling out of the PF government. Why…

    • (Continued)… aren’t they addressing M’membe’s tax issues at the same time? And a Union in another country threatening the government of a sovereign state with embargoes is not very effective. If they want to be relevant mediators, they need to be fair and listen to both sides. Because there are Zambians like us who, even though we don’t approve much of what PF is doing, are still siding with the ZRA in demanding that M’membe follow the law like everyone else, and pay his taxes too. And to give him a pass without consequences is setting a bad precedent. So if M’membe and the NUMSA want this to go away, they need to settle the tax issue once and for all.

    • This is what you get when you have a weak malfunctioning economy. I pity those taking lightly NUMSA’s threats for South Africans are not as docile as Zambians and can pressure government to yield to demands! Zambia as at now has no viable manufacturing industry and is a consumption state with only copper being the mainstay and to say the country can do without South Africa is misplaced until infrastructure and factories spring up! One piece of advice I got from my supervisor and always cherish is he told me to be very impartial in all situations that demanded refereeing or disciplining for “each person we encounter has a history and connections we are not privy to.” Lesson in case is we don’t know whence the Mmembe/Mutinta – NUMSA arises for us to start disparaging NUMSA! ZRA could…

    • contd….. could have negotiated a better business sense deal than getting messed up as pawns of a malfunctioning political administration! ZRA is a permanent authority which outlasts successive political administrations and its their ineptitude’s led to The Post accumulating such huge unpaid taxes! Where were they? It is also fact that other media houses as Times of Zambia also owe colossal amounts in unpaid taxes why not mete on them similarly as The Post? Double standards and mediocre professionalism! The country is in dire need of resources so “Whats good for the goose is good for the gander” must apply across the board! No wonder ZRA is good breathing on the backs of the little income struggling masses for taxes yet being lackadaisical on big entities and those who make much more…

  2. Are not aware that Zambia is sovereign democratic state that it can not be intimidated by out forces and more especially is just a union who have just interest i n membe’s affairs. Just leave them my brother and concentrate on your affairs.

    • What sovereign when you are a poor country that heavily relies on assistance from other countries. You ara a clown young man..bozo the clown.

    • #2. As much as Zambia is a sovereign undemocratic state, it is equally not an island and therefore, should co-exist with it’s neighbours and be seen to be governing democratically. As things are presently, one can only equate it to IDI AMIN DADA kind of governance.

    • True Zambia is a sovereign nation but Zambia too meddled in neighboring countries where Zambia stirred a movement for independence. So bwana as history we africans should stand for each other. Even The Gambian strong man was kicked out because of foreign countries interfering.. So please go sleep young boy

    • Has this same union made any demonstrations against the Great Mugabe at any one time? They are simply hired guns who think Zambians are fools to fall for such prey. I might not be in agreement with some tactics the police force is using in Zambia but a mine Union in RSA cant start demonstrating against our government over issues that border on tax evasion

  3. Those UPND sponsors. We don’t mind them. We will also boycott South African products. Zambia is not a lawless country and Membe stole tax payers money and wife has blatant disregard for law by tearing court search warrant. We all subscribe to the same set of laws and like you hoodlums in south Africa where rich are protected under a different set of laws.

    • Mungatelo,
You are just one of those who enjoy trashing progressive people. What tax payers money you are exaggerating? Go get lesson from abena Kaizer and team what stealing is….. Did Mwaliteta steal your mother’s tax money?

    • @Mungatelo, very sensible. Comment you are making. No one should be above the law or be sacred cow in our God Blessed country. As long as you steer away from breaching the law no authority should harass you. You can’t claim that you’re being harassed when you are not paying tax & your wife is tearing court documents. I doubt if NUMSA really wrote this letter. It sounds childish & unofficial

  4. atase south africans must butt out of out affairs…stop poking your nose where it doesnt belong..what kind of union are you that doesnt care that Mmembe never used to remit statutory contributions for his workers? f00lish

  5. This is KUPUSA at its highest level AZAKAMBA KUSOGOLO UYU IRVIN JIM. A foreigner talking about internal matters ALA where he got the courage , who is mmembe to him? Leave matters for Zambia to Zambians my friend who are u talking about trade between SA and ZED ubema mbanje yabwanji ? i WOULD NT BE SUPRISED IF THIS ARTICLE IS IMMEDIATELY WITHDRAWN FROM THE MEDIA

    • Iwe Chimbwi Anyoko

If Mmembe was still vuvuzelaling PF ,would he be in a sad situation he is right now?

Open your stupid eyes and see selective justice at play under Lungu. If ask all PF top guys to declare their tax returns today, no one including the president himself has paid his taxes in full from their businesses.

Any way chimbwis like you only realise when the f00lish regime they are supporting turns against them.

Mmembe like I have said several times, is also a stupid man who did not take my advice seriously back in 2013 when I warned him to stop supporting PF because the very regime will turn against him one day. Where is he today? Thats not to say I support what Stupid lungu is doing to him NO.

UPND HH and GBM team is the only one to bring back sanity in Zambia.

  6. Ask those same donkeys to come and get there rubbish shops all over our malls. The real country that needs help is Zimbabwe just a minute drive from your boarder ,why you jumping Zimbabwe you can’t see Zimbabweans need you more than we do. We will deal with this case internally and trust me zambians are loving people who will judge by themselves and arrest the situation. Watch this space don’t just take advantage of what’s happening. Ask KK, Banda, and the late presidents Chiluba,Sata and Mwanawasa, may they rest in pace what happens when true people not politicians but true zambians make up there minds and judge for themselves. We unite and fight as one.

  7. Comment:This is utter RUBBISH. Just concentrate on the affairs of your country. Zuma is in fact a worser president than ECL. You failed to protect your country man Julias malema when Zuma striped him of everything through SAPS.

  8. Fake statement…how come it does NOT appear on their website or any of the most reputable south african news sites? this is all mmembes doing. trying to gain sympathy..f00lish

  9. Jim: please deal with your mess in RSA parliament before you cross boarders. You have your own serious political battles to deal with. You have Nkandla issue, Gay rights which have threatened the preaching of the gospel, loss of jobs in the mining sectors, the Guptas, succession battles within the ANC, reduced pass rates at Grade 12, poor quality of RDP houses. Do not play to the gallery. You don’t know Mmembe and your reading from some online media will not help you. Go to the Zambian Embassy in RSA and get correct information not through the media. You have failed to protect Vavi and you want fight battles outside your boundaries. Don’t be mislead Zambia has been your friend from very far and a lot of infrastructure was destroyed just to make NUMSA exist. Can any one destroy in the…

    • Exactly my thoughts. I am even surprised that some people can even have the audacity to support what this demagogue named Irvin Jim from a lawless country called South africa, where criminality is institutionalised is hallucinating. Tearing a search warrant in Zambia is an offence and this Mutinta woman was found at the other side of the law, therefore the law is taking its course. If the Mmembes are your friends in sabotage acts please spare our nation!

  10. Ctd. Jim: can anyone in RSA destroy and tear and trash an official court document in RSA and go unpunished? Sober up and get correct information for you to make an informed decision before you embarrass yourselves. Media my foot! He said the owners of media should disrespect the law. In RSA when Juju and his team misbehavior with all the immunity in parliament, they were manhandled like thieves. Worse are are your law makers whom you treated like thugs and thieves. You beat them up and broke their hands and necks. You think we don’t see and read what happens in RSA. People ( Miners) were killed in Marikana in RSA and no one has been arrested up to now. Mutinta has just been arrested and you want to be her spokes person from RSA. That’s very embarrassing and what sort of arrogance is…

  11. What gives this boer the audacity to interfere in our internal afairs? Clean your mess in South Africa before u cross the borders. Fool

  12. Ctd: Jim: arrogance is this? And you Zambians who are getting so excited and supporting these guys don’t know how these people behave in their own country. What’s wrong with us Zambians with the love of foreign noise? Let’s chill and allow the law to prevail. I tell you guys you don’t want to envy these guys.

  13. Irvin Jim we know “Comrade” Fred is your friend. But bottom line is that he is owing our ZRA (like you have SARS / South African Revenue Service over there) a lot of money. Let him just pay back what belongs to Caesar and he will have his freedom. No sympathy from this side. So sorry, but your threats are just blows from feather pillows.

  14. Fake statement deal with your own jezi, juju has exposed him for what he is and this is what he has been saying ‘pay back the money’ your comrade mutinta and her husband owe us money in taxes never mind a whopping 15 billion zmk ‘loan’ meant for development in Zambia for such things as persons living with hiv aids, water and sanitation, sanitary towels for under privileged mothers, flushing toilets for people in the village etc…so we are dealings with a semi criminal like your own jezi….

  15. HOW DOES THIS NUMSA FIT IN THIS POST NEWSPAPER ISSUE. Let us not be bullied by some useless chaps pushing their own personal agendas. We have other problems as a country. These Id.ots called NUMSA has never shown interest. They must just deal this their own problems in SA. NUMSA is a bunch of illiterate morons.

  16. MEEMBE IS BEING PERSECUTED. PEOPLE LIKE KAMBWILI WHO ARE SUPPOSEDLY PLUNDERING THE COUNTRY FOR SELF GAME GET A SMALL MENTION OF BEING INVESTIGATED AND ALL GOES QUIET. MEEMBE IS BEING TREATED LIKE AN ENEMY OF STATE, WHERE ARE OUR JOURNALISTS IN ZAMBIA TO SPEAK UP AND SUPPORT HIM. COWARDS THAT IS WHAT WE ZAMBIANS ARE ELSE WE WOULD NOT TOLERATE A FEW PEOPLE WRECKING OUR COUNTRY AND BRINGING IT DOWN AS IT IS NOW. LOOK AT ALL THE HARDSHIPS. HOW LONG ARE WE GOING TO TAKE THIS>

    • Kambwili is not arrogant. You cannot compare Mmembe with Kambwili.
These people are so desperate they can now sell the Country. Oh my God!

  17. We used to laugh at sympathies with South Africa during the apartheid era now its their turn to sympathies with us. What a turn of events!

  18. Zambia is, by large, the bread winner of south african states. Go to Kasumbalesa and see how much meat goes to that country (ofcourse mostly illegally), go to American/British owned Shoprite and Game stores and see how Zambians buy and supply these shops with Zambian products. Go to Chipata and Nakonde just to have a feel of how millions of zambians sale food to the nieghboring countries. Zambia can even afford to have an export ban yet other countries have nothing to impose a ban on. The same people that were condemning Government for the ban are on the fore front talking about zambia being so poor. Have we ever thought how difficult life was in Malawi, Congo, Zimbabwe etc. Keep complaining and see how famine will remind of real life one day.

  19. This Irvin Jim is a huge liability and disappointment to the workers that he is supposed to be representing how do you make such serious allegations on a sovereign state without a proper understanding of issues at hand. Please before you issue out your so-called demands try to think twice. Does this Irvin Jim know that actually the post newspaper owes Zambian workers through NAPSA (pension money) among other many creditors a lot of millions which the Zambian government is trying to recover through a legally appointed receiver? And his friend Mmembe as usual is not cooperating and has been hiding the assets of the post, which in itself is a criminal act in Zambia. So, can this moron stop parroting and let him shut his beak!

    • Which kind of wisdom says the inland revenue service close a defaulting business and put people out of work and affiliated suppliers, would you do the same to a foreign owned business. I don’t think so.

  20. I feel very sad about this trending development in my country. Can’t we just be kind to each other for once? Vindictive actions will take us nowhere.

    • Just stop being arrogant and all will be good with you.
For you being kind to each other means accepting HH won and Mmembe must not pay back. Ohhh my foot!

  21. Irvin Jim’s political advisor/consultant is a Zambian of Malawian origin Hazwell Banda who was very troublesome at UNZA in the late 80’s and 90’s and was at one time expelled from UNZA. We used to call him Chihana at UNZA after he organised a protest against the arrest of a Malawian opposition leader Chihana in Malawi by Kamuzu Banda and we got clobbered by the paras as we did not have a permit. So when Irvin Jim speaks ill against the Zambian GOVT, he is not the one talking but a mouth piece for Hazwell Banda who is a UPND supporter

  22. They have failed to sort out Zuma and they want to start interfering in our affairs. Atase, the useless slaves of Boers.

  23. Rubbish statement from Mumembe stooges….dreaming that if they say South Africa stuupidi Union( which celebrates killing of poor miners in South Africa) will campaign against trade with Zambia , then Zambians will tremble and rise against PF. What a stuupidyy thinking by these thieves. Please if you want take away shoprite and others we dont mind. Rubbish of the dullest statements this year 2017. Shame .

  24. Jim should instead focus his energy on sorting the mess in South Africa. There is more confusion in South Africa than Zambia. He should leave us to sort out our own problems. South Africans are just a bunch of ungrateful people who used Southern African countries to fight for their independence. Now that they are free, they have started killing foreigners like animals.

  25. As Zambians we are strong enough to fight our own battles. NUMSA is too weak an ally in so far as it has failed to check ZUMA over ZUPTAGATE and NKANDLAGATE scandals. The power we have lies in our vote and sensible voting in 2021. For far too long our vote has been bought by a pack of shake shake beer but we have the power to vote for what’s good for ourselves. PF and UPND violence also drove us to vote wrongly. The post, our once powerful mouthpiece, landed us in this mess when it went to bed with the late despot MCS, for that I won’t shed a tear for Fred and his household. Agony is – while PF runs roughshod over us, another violent group is waiting to come in in the name of GBM, Scott, Sichinga and co. NUMSA can’t understand our politics: a group that has failed to sweep its own…

  26. cont/- NUMSA can’t understand our politics: a group that has failed to sweep its own house can’t and shouldn’t be trusted with our agenda. Tichaye nkhondo teka!

  27. This NUMSA General Secretary or whatever he calls himself, has no right whatsoever, to tell Zambia what and what not to do regarding this issue because he doesn’t even seem to understand the genesis of this, later on the magnitude of the misfortune involved in failure for a company to pay tax, napsa etc!

  28. Some bloggers are full of hypocrisy and stupidity. Is it not the same Mmembe who was praised for backing Sata, thus making it easy for Chela to land the communication post in the state house? It was all good that time because their own was being elevated. But now when he chooses to differ with current leadership he is all of a sudden the bad guy now . How many CEO’s controlling state owned entities that failed to pay tax have been harassed in this way??? This is more than the issue of tax. The union has a right because the post invested in RSA. Employed people in RSA. The case of tax never automatically escalates to such brutality. When the tax payer complies you set conditions for collections. Not this way. To Mmembe, the message is very clear, you chose to appease the blood of your…

  29. To Mmembe, the message is very clear, you chose to appease the blood of your father,(Bemba) and despised your association to the Lozis. If anything you never wanted anyone to pick it that you have Lozi blood. The same fools from your fathers side that you pleased much are on you now. It is not you that they are persecuting. No. It is the Lozi DNA that you have. Finish. Just denounce the name, NAMAKANDO and replace it with MUSONDA, you will be discharged of any wrong doing. Additional advantage. Get married to Rupia Banda’s daughter, Not a Tonga then all will be well for you. Never insult the bosom of your mother.

  30. This Jim character doesnt know what his talking about and his got alot more to worry about right there in SA.
May i remind all those saying Fred is being persecuted what what. Fred has got no one to blame but himself. Firstly, Tax issues with ZRA are not difficult to deal with even when one has penalties. All one has to do is to face ZRA and agree a settlement on how to pay and they let you be as long as you stick to your agreement. Fred didnt want to do this. He had all the time in this world to work out a payment plan with ZRA but he did not for reasons known to him. Especially as critic of the Government, he should have been on top of these issues But he did not. No persecution here but facing his own consequences.

  31. Zambia is Zambia and South Africa is South Africa. Let them boycott our goods and we will also boycott theirs. After all we used to live better in the 70s and 80s when there was no Shoprite and South African investments than today. We can trade with some other countries on the continent rather than South Africa. Shame on a backward union which can not reason. Control your government and not ours.

  32. NUMSA ia an ally of the Confedera6tion of Trade Union of Zambia (COTUZ) led by Joe Kamutumwa and COTUZ affiliate union in Zambia is National Union of Miners and Allied Workers (NUMAW). You will recall that in 2015 Irvin Jim and NUMSA visited Zambia and was hosted by Rainbow Party and COTUZ. Rainbow Party was promoted by the Post Newspaper and Fred Mmembe. This is the connection.

  33. It’s idiomatic to interfere in other peoples affairs, the stupid NUMSA General Secretary Irvin Jim, should concentrate on talking about issues concerning his country South Africa. When the barbaric cops killed the protesting Miners in South Africa, we kept quiet knowing that it’s South Africa’s internal affairs. But this Numskull is busy making noise in our affairs which does not concern him and some people are busy supporting him. Gents grow up, South Africa’s blacks were treated like Dogs, some of them were offered shelter and our parents Tax money during apartheid era now that they are Liberated someone is threatening to end trade between South Africa and Zambia, even forgetting that some of their companies have invested in out land benefiting the same ***** as most of the…

  34. It is Not tax issues that are exposing Mmembe to these treatments. Never. He has lawyers, that argued the case. ZRA has lawyers that represented them, when court passes judgement, it looks at all possible angles for fair discharge of the law, to protect the Welfare of those that might be affected by the judgement, including the employees, the debtors, creditors, ZRA itself and offers a relief for settlement. Why did the case go upto the level of liquidation as if they discovered Membe was secretly filling for insolvency or bankruptcy to avoid paying tax. If he was secretly through the lawyers attempting to file for insolvency or bankruptcy while the case is on, that is when court could issue in interdict to gauge his motive and then place for liquidation. Zambians, clever for nothing…

  35. South Africans have no right to talk about our affairs – they have enough problems. Blind followers of HH stop fooling yourselves, you lost elections and your man must be retired. Zambia voted for EL. Mmembe needs to pay period, if you are sympathetic of him please pay for him.

  36. The Post Newspaper has destroyed and killed innocent and credible Zambians who crossed his path including Generals, Presidents, parastatal chiefs, Ministers and their families some of whom are now dead from dep[ression. Who is Fred and ka Mutinta compared to these great souls who are no more because the pen is mightier than the sword. The Mast newspaper is not jounalism but bitter expressions by those opposed to ECL. What news can you get from the Mast?

  37. Zambians,Zambians…one good thing is that you are suffering and for you its normal. You have a government which is trying to undermine democracy yet you cant see…You are a country which does not produce anything to say the least, even a match stick you import…you always import cause of bad leadership…here you are making irrelevant comments…Anyway a lot of Zambians ve never traveled….you think thats the way life is everywhere…as long you can afford to sit in front of a computer, drive a Japanese car and eat your kabwali…all is fine…shame!

  38. i Quote the article which appear in this same media
“Earlier, the Lusaka magistrates court signed an arrest warrant for Mr M’membe.

According to the warrant that was signed on February 14, this year, Mr M’membe was supposed to be arrested for presenting himself as owner of the Post Newspaper in liquidation and not availing all the property and documents of the company to the liquidator Lewis Mosho.
Mr Mosho recently indicated that he would act against all those not availing the company’s property for onward sale to enable the liquidator pay the workers and institutions owed by the Post”.

So gents let us leave the Law enforcers do their work, it’s their area of specialization. Why are we always opposing the govt of the day when they want to put things straight, we all know…

  39. Irvin Jim, NUMSA General Secretary should not pop his long nose in Zambia’s affairs. Does he know clearly why Mutinta was detained! Bwana concentrate on your business. No one here in Zambia is above the law.

  40. Who between Mutinta and Fred is a member of NUMSA? Not that it matters. NUMSA in their own country are ineffective. They have issues of their own in their country. They have lamentably failed to represent their members and now they want to meddle ..in the affairs of a sovereign state. Mutinta’s arrest is not political it’s a matter of breaking the law. Which she did. NUMSA go and TOYITOYI somewhere else and let the course of our law take its course

  41. this what TRUP calls fake news, coz there no justification in that dull union from SA to start thretening us with trade if anything which trade after all we fed u,we clothed u, we gave u shelter now u want start bitting the finger that fed u,what a nonsense and by the way Mmembe is not a sait so he has to pay tax if where in Asian countries Mmembe would have been excuted so dont take zambia for granted u *****s a bunch of union

  42. How many civil servants, politicians, cadres have stollen zambian money and are Still free. How many trucks has Lungu Acquired and other biznesses in 3yrs ? Kaiza has been said to be corrupt, Dora, kambwili, RB and many others mentioned in the alditors reports. Police officers shooting and Killing pipo, Davis mwila z issue.all these What has Lungu done ô has even said n thing. But today the only person Who has made zambia poor is Fred. The pipo Making zambia poor are right at state house and in government.

  43. I am impressed at how much “blindness” most of you choose to demonstrate. You behave like you never used to read M’membe’s commentaries. This so called Irvin’s Article is full of M’membe’s idiosyncrasies! the article was written by Fred himself; so what is the worry? And in any case, what teeth has this Trade Union to influence anything in Zambia when they have not managed to influence anything in their own country?

  44. They shouldn’t dare tread in other nation’s internal affairs when their own country is full of chao’s even in Parliament they are busy fighting and ushering vulgar words instead of solving issues amicably the way we do in Zambia.
This NUMSA leader thinks he can blow vuvuzela anywhere…….Let issues which involves Zambians to be debated by Zambians only. If it was in your country which is well known for its xenophobic attitude no foreigner can be spared for saying such trash.
Don’t get excited when you read our social media and see us airing different views that you are also free to tread in our issues. It is the maturity way of arriving at the required goal. So Let us Zambians debate on issues which involves our nation freely, and instead comment on GUPTA scandal and other issues…

  45. @Irvin Jim, find something sensible to talk about if lawlessness is part of your agenda in SA, not in Zambia. Recently their was a report that majority South Africans(Shaka Zulus group) still earn very little compared to the people late Mandela fought. Start from their and ensure you reduce the gap am a proud tax payer and the one being kept by the police must answer charges…

  46. Uku kweve ni kupusa uku! Let them start by freeing Zuma from his presidence. Zuma is suffering a lot by being President. Then may be we can listen to them.

  47. Kikikikikikiki……kikikikikiki…..kikikikiki…
Do UPNDonkeys really think that me the whole Terrible should be amused by this joke? Try among yourselves UPNDonkeys, maybe in your world of donkeys April 1st comes in February!! …..kikikikikikikikikikikikikikikikikiki…..
    Mwebeni Kainde apenene uko kwine…….kikikikikikikikikikikikikikikikikiki…..

  48. What are the oppositiong parties in Zambia still waiting for? The government is a failed one and MUST BE removed. They are arresting and punishing innocent people, bullying and smuggling maize meal out of their own country to go and feed their neighbours in Malawi…! Opposition WAKE UP
Gambia a small country fought for Democracy and the world watched us celebrate. Docile Zambians stand up for your rights and defeat the government before the whole nation is destroyed.
GAMBIA IS NOT THE PRIDE OF AFRICA…….!

  49. Why a union in South Africa and who told them to do things on behalf of Zambian. May the Post vehicles are at the mines. The M’membe of 1990s and early 20s would not support this

  50. A union commenting on our internal matters, leave us along. Negotiate on the behalf of your members who need a better living wage. Why waste your time on matters on Zambia when your masters are paid like slaves. Face your log in your eye.

  51. USELESS NUMSA General Secretary Irvin Jim . you have failed in your own country to save the issues of miners who go unpaid for 3months and brutally given good beatings by police. you’re such a pathetic human

  52. Did Lungu ever pay back that widow’s terminal benefits he chewed like that mango fruit on the street? At lease M’membe owes the government and he hasn’t denied his indebtedness to them, but to misappropriate a poor widow’s grudas and threaten her is evil and gutless.

  53. You bet all people condemning NUMSA here are all ba Kumawa kumodzi! Muzaciona you “Malawan” cina lesa ba tubulu kunyela mu pit latrine!

  54. Lungu wants to sell Zambia this is pure dictatorship we never recognize this man who has no heart for the people,he thinks we don’t know how much he has stolen from the people of Zambia to buy ECZ his from rugs to something. How many people in Zambia that have stolen money and hides but after getting in to power directs the law to to withdraw the cases how many companies that owe ZRA his taking the law as the pub being owned by him,we regret voting for you ECL.
