President EDGAR LUNGU has arrived in Israel for a five-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister BENJAMIN NETANYAHU.
The Presidential Challenger jet carrying the Head of State touched down at BEN GURUON International Airport in the city of TEL AVIV at 13:43 hours Zambian and Israeli time.
TEL AVIV that President LUNGU who wants to strengthen economic Diplomacy with Israel established the first ever Embassy in that Country two years ago headed by Ambassador MARTIN MWANAMBALE.
The Head of State is expected to meet with the Israeli President REUVEN RIVLIN
and Prime Minister BENJAMIN NETANYAHU.
President LUNGU is also expected to officiate at a business forum organised by the Israeli and Zambian Chambers of Commerce and Industry- ZACCI which would focus on investment opportunities within the two countries.
The delegation to Israel includes cabinet ministers from Foreign Affairs HARRY KALABA, Agriculture DORA SILIYA, Health CHITALU CHILUFYA, Commerce and Industry MARGARET MWANAKATWE, Energy DAVID MABUMBA, Tourism and Arts CHARLES BANDA, Transport BRIAN MUSHIMBA, among others.
Others are Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations AMOS CHANDA, Special Assistant to the President for Politics KAIZAR ZULU, Special Assistant to the President for Economics HIBEENE MWIINGA, and Senior Private Secretary DANIEL SIWO.
The Head of State is further accompanied by a business delegation in order to accord an opportunity to the private sector representatives of both countries to interact and forge business partnerships.
The visit is further expected to provide Mr Lungu and his delegation an important opportunity to market the numerous business opportunities that Zambia has to offer with the view to attract Israeli investment into Zambia.
President LUNGU will also interact with Zambians living in Israel.

This is really nostalgic … I was there barely today last month!!! Beautiful country I must add. Main areas of cooperation. Visit the City of Haifa one hour thirty minutes north of Tel Aviv. Top 10 Silicon Valley companies are headquartered there for their Middle East operations – That’s Margaret’s forte. Haifa is more like the commercial capital of Israel.
Dora has a lot to learn from a lot to learn from her counterpart in agriculture at the Knesset … where is Mutati? He should have been left in Tel Aviv to learn from his counterpart and see how Tel Aviv is turning out to be the new financial capital in the Middle East. There’s more money in Tel Aviv than anywhere else in the region.
Tourism is a huge deal in Israel and do there is a lot we can do in terms of cooperation…

Lungu was only met by a low level ambassador at the airport which shows that this is not a state visit at all. We as Zambians should appeal to our parliamentarians to consider curtailing these presidential trips or reducing period of these trips. whilst we are aware some are on reciprocal and invitation arrangements. We are also aware that if well managed and intellectually represented benefit our country. However, 2 to 5 days or more is a disservice to Zambia. We can debate about this appeal but president Lungu is a government employee who should be seen to serve Zambia and manage the nation beset with numerous problems. His absence for more than two days leaves the nation vulnerable to believe that the government is absent, weak and does not care about Zambia. Parliament should look into these long presidential out side…
