Zambia Under-20 goalkeeper Mangani Banda says they are primed to deliver a win in Wednesday’s 2017 U20 AFCON penultimate Group A clash at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

Zambia will face Mali in a match the tournament hosts need to win to reach the semifinals.

Beston Chambeshi’s team leads Group A on 3 points after beating Guinea 1-0 on February 26 at Heroes Stadium while Mali are joint second after drawing 0-0 with Egypt in the late kickoff on the same date.

“Mali is a good team and we all know that we are leading the group and we are looking forward to another win in tomorrow’s game,” Banda said.

Zambia have never beaten Mali in five encounters at under-20 level with two tournament defeats and a draw.

In the qualifiers, they have a draw and a defeat in the race to the 2013 Algeria tournament.

And Mali beat Zambia 1-0 at the 2015 tournament held in Senegal where Young Chipolopolo finished on zero points and bottom of Group B.

  1. This Team is not representing Zambia, its a regional team if not so does it mean that only easteners
are the only ones who knows how to kick a ball………or its part of wako- ni wako mentality? The team has only 3 names from other region…….. is it part of qualification before one kicks a ball to identify himself as Banda ,Sakala, Jere, Phiri or Chilufya, and if you are found to be Situmbeko, Mudenda, Muyambango or Mbumwayi no place for you …….is this zambia or regional Team? one zambia one nation

    • Its like you never change the way of thinking, even in football you bring issues negatively when everypone is happy over that win selecting is done on merit if the mudenda’s situmbeko’s can kick the ball let them kick where they are and willbe called into the team finish.Dont just bring issues into sport time of hate is long gone

  2. @Essentials
According to the Technical Bench, these are the best players at the moment. Place of origin is not “essential”as long as they are Zambians.

    • Thats nice comments unlike those comments from some essential’s from some areas.Lets us support the boys those are our future team,

  3. zambia has impressed alot of people with the outsanding performance last night and i only wish FAZ can make a senior national team like that and if FAZ can then the sky is the limit for the Football team in zambia.

Zambia has alot of talent in all the 10 provinces in Zambia it is high time FAZ should wake up and identify these players and give the an opportunity to put Zambia on the Map of Scoccer in the world.

If the Under -20 team can perform like that the why shouldnt the national team perform.

FAZ dont go for famous names when making a team go for the skill, attitude and players that fight for a win.Aim to win any match.

Go young chipolopolo boys win the trophy and make president Lungu happy by handig over the trophy to you guys.

The whole nation is behind you.
