Zambia toil to U20 AFCON final

Share

Zambia are through to the 2017 U20 AFCON finals after beating South Africa in a gruelling semifinal clash at Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

It took extra-time to divide the two Cosafa archrivals after fulltime finished 0-0 as Zambia toiled to their third straight victory over South Africa in a space of three months.

Edward Chilufya broke the deadlock in the 110th minute.

But both sides had chances to finish the match in regulation time with South Africa defender Sandile Mthethwa seeing his header going just wide in the 70th minute.

Enock Mwepu fortunate shot in the 80th minute hit the upright while Patson Daka fine volley was saved by Mohdli Mpoto.

Zambia now await in the March 12 final at Heroes winner of Thursday’s semifinal clash between Guinea and Senegal in Ndola.

This is Zambia’s debut final appearance after finishing 4th twice in 1999 and 2007.

    • Only f00ls follow this.

Who cares. I wish nothing good to anyone that follows football or footballers.

Do the players have degrees, masters are they pursuing PhD’s?

      Thanks

    • Luckily they won~thanks to visionless Lungu’s PF bandits & PFolice who caused mayhem by teargasing each other.
This is what LT is not reporting on. The match was stopped for 6 minutes after players on the pitch were chocked by fuming teargases at the helm of anarchical PF bandits & PFolice.
To make matters worse off, even visionless Lungu was also affected by teargas unleashed by both his violent cadre bandits & PFolice who were on each others throats~drilling!
It was just after players & patrons had choked up by PF teargases~incl blind Lungu~then Zambia scored.
Under the visionless PF leadership, confusion, anarchy & fracas mixtured with impunity illegality reigns supreme in the country. What a mess missed by LT!

    • Mushota on int women’s day decides to annoy footballers and soccer lovers by asking for ACCA, CIMA, BSc, MSc ,PhD from Fashion Sakala and team .

    • Mushota three quarters of very the richest people in the world don’t have all those things you are talking about believe you me education is some kind of hypnosis for the masses because they tell you what they know is true not what you know is true that’s why it is practically and theoretically impossible to link education with talent as education must learn from TALENT.
Only fools despise talent and they end up in sphere of foolishness.

  1. Comment: for sure, we have toiled to the final. we need to improve in all departments for us to win the cup. Thanks to soccer funs at heroes stadium for support though.

    • Ba Zambia. Always negative. What would have happened if SA won? Learn to appreciate efforts. For SA to reach Semi- finals – means they are not push over.

    • @John in which country?? You just thinking like ichinyau. The way Zambia vs RSA is at the most of the game. Those are games which push countries on FiFA ladder.

    • Mushota even if you claim to be educated, your analysis in a lot of issues are totally absurd. If you have a degree in anything, you got it through leakage, you do not sound qualify at all. As for the young chipolopolo, it was worthy watching, but you can also do better than that. all the best for the next march.

  2. Hard fought victory, but that’s how a real combatant becomes worthy of praise … When he wins against a equally grit and ferocious enemy. Thanks very much boys , you have saved my face I will walk tall at work in their midst . Chipolopolooooo !!!!

    • There’s only one way to tell … using a CAF approved scientific assessment criterion which they all passed! CASE CLOSED! and please move on!

  3. That free kick was brilliantly executed. Well done to the lads! Its only umwana wandoshi who can not appreciate this.

  4. Katankamanine uko Mushota…! Tawaba nachisuma, am proud of the boys besides my nephew is in that team. Congrats son’s of Zambia .

  5. Edward chilufya said “he has been dreaming about this for 30 years now,its a dream come true”.Ba Zambia tefintu tell us the true Age.

    • I’m sure you’re eagerly waiting to have Zambia disqualified for age cheating! Waloba ilyauma mune, they all passed the CAF age assessment!

  6. Edward chilufya said “he has been dreaming about this for 30 years now,its a dream come true”.Ba Zambia tefintu tell us the real Age.

  7. THANKS GOD, AT LEAST IT WASN’T WINNING THROUGH PENAULTIES. CONGRATULATIONS YOUNG COPPER BULLETS. I LOVE YOU. HOWEVER, THERE’S MORE ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT. CONGRATULATIONS ALSO GO TO THE SUPPORTERS WHO WENT TO WATCH THE GAME AND ENCOURAGE THE TEAM TO WIN.

  8. THE FINAL IS BETWEEN ZAMBIA AND SENEGAL, AND ZAMBIA WILL BEAT SENEGAL 3-1 TO WIN THE FIRST EVER U20 CUP FINAL UNDER THE ABLE ANDREW KAMANGA , CONGRATS FAZ AND SPORTS MINISTER VINCENT MWALE, NEXT IS THE SENIOR TEAM TOTURN TABLES DOWN TO GO TO WORLD CUP IN RUSSIA

    • Anyina mwatala wenye sports minister is Moses Mawere not Vincent Mwale…….Thanks for predicting though!

  9. Zambians learn to appreciate when the boys have done a good job. Congrats to the young Chipolopolo boys for making us proud in the diaspora. Remember such games push you up the FIFA standings. The challenge still remains be focused for the next game is going to be even more stressfull. Prepare yourselves mentally as I know that physically you are ready by now.

  10. Comment: Ba Nostradamus, we have played SA at u20 level several times and we never struggled as did yesterday. We have a lot of work to do for us to win the cup. SA controlled the mid field and defence well than we did.

  11. Zambia needs to improve a lot in killer instinct, crosses, attacking moves and defense. Its just that South Africa did not force matters so hard on Zambia. If you play West Africans like that, you definitely loose the game. They needed to command the game and be clinical in their finishing. I will tell you one move that should have be well handled. There was cross from Mayembe after dribbling a defender, such crosses should not go straight on the keeper, they need to go diagonal towards the penalty area away from keeper but it was kicked right on his face and the keeper was equal to the task, very rare to bit the keeper from near post.

  12. You bloggers… how would you say Edward Chilufya dreamed for thirty years about this game?/// Even you, you don’t think… Even if he is above 20, how can he be dreaming for thirty years… these are just people making stories and you put them on the internet… LOL.. dull chaps..

  13. As I said earlier Zambia has taught SA all its tactics so it was very hard to penetrate through them. But at the end of the Zambia carried the day congratulations young men. Semi is over lets focus on the final, good luck guys, if you can play like when you took Mali I am sure it will be a walkover for you. Please do not slow the match be vibrant.

  14. the decision to host the A
fcon under20 was a great idea and has been a learning curve for Zambia, now we know how to handle crowds, whether we have enough hotel accommodation, ticket issues etc now we have a chance to bid for the senior Afcon in future
