She said her ministry is working to ensuring that vulnerable people have enough food on the table.

She said this when a team from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), led by the Country Director Abla Benhammouche visited her office in Lusaka today.

Meanwhile, Ms. Benhammouche has disclosed that her organization is committed to supporting the commercialization of smallholder farmers in the country in a bid to fight poverty.

Ms. Benhammouche said IFAD is helping farmers in rural areas to find market for their products by creating links between small-holder farmers and market intermediaries.

She said IFAD is also engaging the different abled people in Zambia by providing them with opportunities to be part of the economic development.

  1. This government is really stupid and silly. First of all, for any farmer to join ZNFU, they have to pay subscription fee, which the Zambian youth cannot afford. Secondly, thus Government does not even have a register of all citizens who are able bodied looking for any type of work, or those interested in farming. Withou any such date, they (GRZ) are just playing games. All provinces MUST have a record of all unempoyed citizens who can be called upon to be trained for specific skills in any sector as deemed critical for our economy.

  2. Feeling the heat after inviting people all the way from Israel to come and just plant vegetables, which we can do ourselves. People are wondering why you cannot support local farmers instead of bringing these people and dishing them free land Zambians are fighting for. We have enough vegetables

  3. We are working in Nigeria to develop the Enhanced Extension Agent. This will include Youth Vocational Training. The youth will become Extension Agent Assistants. A report by the Agricultural Research Council in Nigeria said that an Extension Agent has between 6 and 7,000 small farmers in their service area, but only see a few of the larger farmers in a year. Much more is planned for the Enhanced Extension Agent model.
