Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mr, Mario Giro with a team of NGOs and Investors are expected in Zambia in September, 2017 to come and explore investment opportunities in the country.

During a meeting between Community Development and Social Services Minister Hon. Emerine Kabanshi, and Hon. Giro at the Italian Foreign Affairs Ministry on Thursday, 7th April, the Minister said Zambia was a peaceful nation with great potential for investment and that Italy wanted to strengthen and consolidate co-operation with the country by setting up various investments.

He emphasised that Zambia is a peaceful country and Italy would like to explore investment opportunities that will benefit both Zambia and Italy and in the long run cement relations.

“I will come to Zambia with a team of NGOs and do a survey and exchange ideas on how our two countries can work together. This visit will enable us to have Government to Government exchange meetings to consolidate the bilateral relations and also Government to Business Sector relations,” he said.

He said that, there was need to do more in order to help develop Zambia adding that Italy wanted to continue supporting Zambias’ development agenda by strengthening the relations of the two countries.

He said there was need for Italy and Zambia to start afresh and strengthen strong relations saying that Italy is ready to work and support the Zambian government in different areas that are aimed at uplifting lives of the underprivileged.

And Hon. Kabanshi stressed the need to strengthen cooperation between Zambia and Italy.

“The relations should be made stronger, Zambia is a very peaceful country and your investment in Zambia will not go to waste. We are inviting you to Zambia and bring investors who would like to invest in Zambia in different sectors of the economy such as Tourism, Mining, Agriculture, Education and Trade,” she said.

She told Hon. Giro that she was in Italy to lay a ground for Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Harry Kalaba who would elaborate more on Zambia s investment opportunities once the two countries meet for bilateral meetings in Lusaka in September.

Ms. Kabanshi also requested Hon. Giro to consider extending more scholarship opportunities to Zambians especially the less privileged and marginalised girls.

  1. You mean to come and explore and exploit our resources because we have a dwanzy f00lish illegal president and government whose only aim is to get kick backs from investors while turning blind eye. This explains why it takes foreigners to come and set up business here and be successful while Zambians suffer and then are called lazy. The only lazy one is that teethy rat called lungu

    • I’m following the S&P global and Fitch rating to junk status of the SA economy & I’m are asking “where are our economics professionals?” We hear of such ratings here but with mooted reaction. How are we rated & how is that affecting our economy & investor environment?
Why have we, as professionals in almost every field, left opinion to politicians?
Chagwa spends $100K to fly to Muchinga to commission a $15k project & we are quite. Are we worth those degrees we flaunt?
Prof Saasa, Mwilola Imakando, Noel Nkhoma, myself & all other professionals in all fields, of what value are we to society? Are we just more interested in rapying this poor MOTHER of ours?

  2. We hear of investors all the time. Meanwhile trickle down effect to the masses is nil. The poverty levels in Zambia are unforgivably high. Those who are charged to work, please start working to improve people’s life. However if you want to work but your CAPACITY is limited, please give way

  3. All above comments are from devils, street guy venders people who has no future life, people who are not educated nsanya kokolochi.

  4. Why in every report the overseas pipo say we are very peaceful and then the minister says the same.
If we are that peaceful why would minister for communications say their is violence and the police stop meetings because it is not safe.
    What is the truth

  5. Zambians are always selling salaula donated for charity. check on those who get things from Samaritan’s purse & others

  6. A team of NGOs to do what exactly? Have you vetted them? This dependence syndrome by Lazy’s govt has got out of hand…this why you let childabusers masquerading as donors.

  7. Hon Kabashi in finding capital even in the Italians market Is okay But as observed by others THE LOCAL COMMERCE in business men and societies should be supported to work in partnership with those Investments preferably as covertures partnering with those with capital and skilling’s to eventually create capacity to have such Investments be spearheaded locally

Setting up the Committee on Investments is also a good initiative to ensure modelling of FDIs in Zambia and tracking to ensure pass thru effects

The case for Italians Investments and local commerce can be evaluated on the Bombay Drainage and bench marked in similar Industries The Italian MCC…

  8. investments and skilling’s on the Lusaka Drainage have performed better than the similar Tanzania MCC similar Bombay drainage in terms of pass thru and local contagion

Lets walk together with well articulate intelligent Hon Kabanshi even as she walks to MANDAHILL She is has proved to be an example and one of the best women ministers

What is seems to be lacking and not in psychic is FDIs actually invested and the work and preparation done by LOCAL COMMERCE SOCITIES to receive and participate in those FDIs In scarcity of capital Any capital that is ethical and efficient is welcome and Italians are good people to work with looking at there track record in Zambia

  9. @ nO .2 Professionals do not mix with politicians, real zambian professionals are in the diaspora those that go to zambia get bruised , eg Prof. clive chirwa and many more. The problem is that those of us with ideas are not welcome to the clueless citizenry hence the status quo remains the same. Iam happy in ADIS ABABA as a senior consultant to Ethiopia Railway Authority

  10. there as in places they have left a foot print and seen how the local also have benefitted for long term

Make a different also in Market reaction to event risk in this case assumed MATERIAL realigning of minister of finance and nature of Long-term Investors in South Africa that will often take a long-term political risk view to investing in there In terms of demographics and political outlook over the longterm, the event risks outweighs and any long-term investor will factor but typical of SA investors they will hold on as markets revert and assume those risks In short it will be business as usual even in those quarterly downgrades as SA is still investments…

  11. is still investments grade maybe only a marginally higher premium up looking at the FDIs,political and Demographic trends in SA to 2050 That the leadership should work on to ensure the Country is Still Investable

A rating is only based on what…………….. and its not cast in a stone as modelling can be done to sail thru

  12. Gov’t to gov’t is safe. This is very good. But The Mafia must also be looking for places to invest in too! I hope we remember their Zambia Airways connection. Did they not force us to sell our planes cause we owed them? Nice friends, careful this time to negotiate better.

  13. Patriot abroad, hadnt thought of mafia, interesting that italy is now coming after we are going to permit marijuana.
Drugs and prostitution are mafias area of expertise. Good point
Why announce now for September. We need the IMFmoney thats why so many announcements

  14. We though I do not support the sinkamba party but I know there are exchange traded funds (MARIJUANA ETFS) on Marijuana of fine grade and the Trades are volumes commensurate to the Value for medicinal purposes

I have my reservations and do not support those ETFs and would not encourage the root There is always a danger of people switching to the other which comes to the same thing
