He said government has now moved from political diplomacy to economic diplomacy.

Mr. Kalaba reminded each of the eleven newly appointed diplomats of the immense economic opportunities available in the countries they were being sent to that could benefit Zambia

Mr. Kalaba said President Lungu wanted to see that the resources being spent on maintaining foreign missions was justified by the quality of output.

    • Unfortunately, politics are like that anywhere. Even HH would pick from his suppoters that qualify for the roles. DT of the USA has done the same. Obama did the same, efyo yakafye game bane

    • The Post reporters were rewarded now it is time to reward the others at Dead NBC, Daily Nation, Times etc. In the next government, it will be Zambian Watchdog, Diggers etc. It is good for the country.

    • One Mushota ewabako kkkkkkkkkk she has completely lost credibility but still warms up LT kkkkkkk mulibantu imwee mulichinkula

    • THIS IS A SHEER WASTE OF RESOURCES BECAUSE THERE IS NO NEED FOR THESE JOURNALISTS IN FOREIGN SERVICE. CAN THE GOVERNMENT EXPLAIN TO THE PEOPLE OF THE RELEVANCY OF POSTING EN MASSE THESE PEOPLE IN FOREIGN SERVICE? IF LOOK AT THE PUBLIC MEDIA YOU WILL NOT FIND ANY NEWS ITEM SENT BY ANY OF THESE JOURNALIST WHO ARE POSTED IN FOREIGN SERVICE. O.P. HAS COMPETENT OFFICERS, WHO ARE JOURNALIST BY PROFESSION, IN THESE MISSIONS. TODAY WE HAVE BBC, CNN, SKY NEWS, FACE BOOK, TWEETER AND OTHER MEDIA WHO REPORT EVENTS AS THEY TAKE PLACE. THIS IS SHEER AND RECKLESS WASTE OF RESOURCES MUST BE STOPPED. I AM A FORMER DIPLOMAT AND KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT.

    • @ 1..1 Come on! Don’t tell lies about the USA. There are very few diplomats who politically appointed in the USA. Most of them are career diplomats. They serve any government irrespective of political affiliation. Every year, people from the Department of State visit universities to recruit workers.

  1. Unfortunately, politics are like that anywhere. Even HH would pick from his suppoters that qualify for the roles. DT of the USA has done the same. Obama did the same, efyo yakafye game bane

  2. What a bunch of empty tins being put on GRZ payroll…what can such a bunch do apart from bootlicking Lazy Bum Edgar!!

  3. Lesson learned already. If you pick pro upnd zealots they will be leaking info before it’s formally announced.

  4. It is Politics…Donald Trump even appointed his daughter as Chief Adviser to him…and son in law as WH strategist,…. It is the nature of politicss…

  5. The article should have mentioned who they were replacing. Are all the former Post reporters coming back? Perhaps a more in-depth article is needed.

  6. It happens everywhere. To date, nearly 2,000 appointed positions in the Trump administration remain vacant. The vacancies include direct presidential appointments as well as what are known as “Scheduled appointments ie political appointees whose roles can only be performed by someone with a thorough knowledge of and sympathy with the goals, priorities, and preferences” of the the Trump administration.

  7. Hunger is bad bane.

It’s unbelievable how journalists throw away the Journalism code of ethics just for a diplomatic job as a press assistant. Everyone knows diplomatic jobs are short-tenure. In 5 years you’ll be recalled & stay for years without a job bcoz of helping a visionless/clueless govt into power.

My cousin is jobless & has been languishing at his in-laws house for over many years after being recalled by Sata from an embassy job.

Politics of the Stomach!! Stomach before country.

  8. Comment:there is nothing wrong with the appointments, they are Zambians also, why not appointing them?

  9. That is why investment is necessary… Come home after 5 years…they will not be the same… Invest what you get there and start their business when in Zed… Full stop… You will not always be in formal employment, hence need for investing in the future when in employment… Start farming colleagues rather than wait for Govnt jobs which are limited.. Lwenu lo… Free advice.. I work for an international company, but I am engaged in Farming in my back yard of 3 arce plot… and This year… bumper harvest despite army worms…LOL

  10. @MANOMAMBULWA, please you should learn how the government operates as most of the appointees are on secondment to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and we need them.

  11. we wish the jobs were advertised not head hunted as it seems. Those you understand corporate governance will agree that best companies are better directed and controlled when highly skilled personnel are employed. We need greater performance in both government and private sector to outperform other states. Remember bechmarking and balance scorecard, Mr Mushota , I believe you are an accountant by proffession

  12. Kalaba says the “press secretaries must explain the economic activities Zambia has engaged in”. To whom? Do you need to go all the way to Turkey to explain something that can be googled? In any case, even googling wouldn’t bring out any constructive meaningful activities that Zambia is engaged in. In short, do we really need so many people at these missions? One thing most of them don’t do is represent the interests of Zambians abroad or help them with various issues. Pleasing cadres unnecessarily at the expense of the tax payer.
