Chilufya sets FIFA U20 World Cup goal target

Zambia Under-20 striker Edward Chilufya is seeking to win the golden boot at next month’s FIFA World Cup in South Korea.

Chilufya scored four times at the Junior Africa Cup to emerge joint top scorer alongside his team mate Patson Daka and South Africa’s Luther Singh.

The Kasama’s Mpande Academy forward says he is targeting to score at least five goals in Korea where Zambia will face Portugal, Costa Rica and Iran in Group C.

“I want to score five goals or more. I want to win the top scorer award very much,” Chilufya said.

“I am working hard in training and I need to work harder,” he said.

He is confident Zambia will excel at the World Cup.

“Training is progressing well. We are working hard so that we can win the World Cup,” Chilufya said.

He added:”I am appealing to our supporters to give us more support like they did during the Africa Cup.”

Coach Beston Chambeshi’s Junior Chipolopolo are going to the World Cup after clinching the 2017 Africa Cup trophy on home soil in March.

  1. Sounds like the young lad is aiming for total selfishness
    before the goal mouth.

Take is it easy, soccer is a collective sport, nonetheless, all the best…

  2. Great attitude Edward. Failure to set targets is one reason why people don’t excel. its not selfishness! Our general Zambian attitude inidicated by diapora is one reason why we fail to go past certain levels in soccer.. kids like Edward will give us the edge. Soccer is a team game but strikers need to set personal goals…

  3. All the best boys. Bring the world cup to Africa. Don’t fear white legs…u are great and capable of winning all your opponents.
