Chief Government Spokesperson Kampamba Mulenga says government is creating decent jobs as a way of motivating workers who are the backbone of the Zambian economy.

Speaking when she officiated at the Labour Day celebrations in Mufulira District this morning, Ms. Mulenga said government has initiated a number of development projects which are aimed at creating decent jobs in Mufulira.

Ms Mulenga, who is also Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, cited the construction of Kamuchanga Market, Copperbelt 400 road project, the Musakashi Irrigation Scheme and the district hospital as some projects which will create jobs for the peple of Mufulira.

She said government is committed to uplift the welfare of workers.

Meanwhile, the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions -ZCTU has urged the opposition to respect last year’s election results and move on to promote unity in the country.

ZCTU Deputy Secretary General Henry Sinkala said the opposition must accept the current leadership and start preparing to contest the 2021 general elections.

Meanwhile, Government says it is engaging various stakeholders with the view to revive Zambia Railways and Mulungushi Textiles in Kabwe.

Speaking in Kabwe when he officiated at this year’s Labour day celebrations, Minister of Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya said government has put the two issues at the core of business.

The Minister said this is because government is aware that the two business entities are the major employers in Kabwe.

And Dr Chilufya has challenged workers to respect labour laws and always put in their best.

This year’s Labour Day theme is securing decent work for sustainable socio-economic development.

And Central Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kabwe said there is need to adequately remunerate media personnel.

He said professionalism in the media is to some extent compromised because of poor wages.

Meanwhile, Zambia National Union of Teachers -ZNUT- Secretary General Newman Bubala who represented the Labour movement has called on politicians to work at promoting the country’s good image to the international community.

He said the Labour movement will not tolerate a situation where politicians tarnish the country’s good image to the international community.

Mr. Bubala further said the Labour movement wants government to agree with the IMF on conditions that will not disadvantage the workers.

    • In what sense is government motivating workers namwet?….very soon workers will be getting paid ECL’s a$$ as IMF cant give money to a country that has so many failing governace institutions.

    • In the civil service, this May payment (which hasnt been paid yet as I have heard) will probably be the last payment this quarter….you will no longer have 30 day month, but a 90 day month! Nimwe ba ba PF bloggers pa LT very soon, you will be getting paid ECL’s a$$!..Eurobond, nayo you need to start paying back in few weeks time, the bond whose money has gone into Jemasoni and properties acquisition abroad. On this occasion, I support the IMF’s refusal to further overburden the tax payers with further inkongole when there is no clear plan on how to pay back that money.

  1. I thought we had mulungushi textile factory up and running with thousands of jobs. When did it close again. What happened to Tanzanians

    • What kind of jobs, you mean casual jobs on building the 8,000 km roads which only last for 6 months? Let us be serious.
