Ministry of tourism and arts principle standards inspector Mwiinga Chiluwe has expressed concern over some hotel operators in Northwestern province .

Ms. Chiluwe says it is saddenning to note that operations of some hotels in the area are operating beyond some set standards to even have little information pertaining to the implementation of the tourism levy.

ZANIS reports that the tourism technocrat said the operators in the hospitality industry are partners of government as they will be collecting the tourism levy on behalf of the State.

It is for this reason for them to be abreast with the necessary information so as to be compliant with the law in the execution of this duty, she said

She said this in Solwezi today when the ministry in collaboration with the ministry of finance conducted a sensitization workshop to educate tourism enterprise operators on tourism levy which came into effect on 1 March 2017.

And hotels and catering association of Zambia Northwestern regional secretary David Sondoyi said hotel operators in the province will work hand in hand with government in implementing the tourism levy.

Mr Sondoyi said the full implementation of the tourism levy by hotel operators will not only benefit them but the tourism sector and the nation as a whole.

The implementation of the tourism levy is in line with statutory instruments numbers 56 and 69 of 2016.
